Clean, modern, out of the city but with options nearby. Extra points for having a kettle in the room and have the outdoor pool ready for a hot day out of the season. Both things are very rare in Portugal.
The breakfast was ok, eggs, coffee and sausages were horrible though. The air conditioning couldn't cool the room below 25C, and that was cooler than inside the mini fridge (incapable of chilling any drink), I ended up sleeping with the balcony door open. The staff could smile more, they weren't ruse, but didn't look very friendly either. Also the SPA needs to be controlled, there were children jumping into the pool and people without the hair cap. Sunday morning it was impossible to relax in the SPA because felt like a public pool, silence should be required.

The staff were very kind and helpful. The breakfast was good. We had quite some problems during our stay and they did their best to resolve them. They seemed aware of the problems we highlighted so I assume they are known to the board of the hotel
1. We could not find one single power outlet in the room. The staff helped us move one of the bedside tables to find one. Well hidden. Having one laptop and three phones with us we had to ask for an extension with power contacts
2. The shower was difficult to use without getting burned. Something was wrong with the shower mixer, impossible to get cool water, it was like pre-set for hot or very hot. Besides the pressure varied during a only 5-10 min shower. Really bad.
3. Very few and miniscule hangers for our towels. They were still wet in the morning.
4. The terrace was large and nice but there were no coffee nor tea making facilities in the room. So in the end we did not use it really. No mini bar either.
5. You are given 45 mins for your breakfast. Meaning that you choose a time slot in the morning and are expected to comply with it. A bit army-like and stressful. If you are chatting, it is not a long time, really.

The restaurant was very canteen like in style, tho food great and staff accommodating. Strange layout and confusing signs.

Facilities
4.0 / 5.0
The place was very clean,. The beds were comfortable. After a full day of walking the Camino I was just glad to get to my hotel. I wish we had had the energy to use any of their spa facilities- but it was a hot walk that day and I couldn't bring myself to walk another step to explore the property. I also liked that they had simple things like cold beer at the front desk, so we didn't have to walk down the hill to the bar restaurant. (I was surprised that the bar wasn't in the lobby)
I know when we walked in we were sweaty and tired, and frankly might have looked like we didn't belong in a posh hotel, but no one at the desk smiled at us. I smiled and kept trying to get someone to smile to no avail. They must get a few Camino walkers in here- so I was kind of surprised that the greeting was not kind. There were many, like 6 people, at the desk at the time , so maybe there was another issue going on.
*When I did come back after my shower to get a beer, the girl at the desk was super nice.
The other issue we had was leaving in the morning. We got up super early, right before sunrise, and couldn't find a way out of the property- the gates were locked tight and the walls were tall. Finally someone must have pushed a button to let us out, because the car gate opened. I was surprised that there wasn't a pedestrian gate for us leave by.

The areal around the hotel is wonderful, you wake up to a beautiful view of the mountains and the green surroundings.
The beds were really comfortable and the memory foam pillows were a wonderful surprise.
The breakfast was wonderful with lot of local products, like jams and pastries, wonderful fresh orange juice.
The Spa area itself was nice and comfortable but the corridor to reach it was incredibly cold.
The staff was without a doubt the best part of the experience, very accommodating and courteous.
The heating of the rooms was too much, it made the air a bit unbearable to the point we had to turn it off and open the window despite the negative temperatures. I was told it was because of the negative temperatures the heating was so high but it was quite uncomfortable.
The breakfast area is quite small so if the room is full it becomes quite a nuisance to get back to your table or even trying to push your chair back.
We found the rooms a bit small, specially when you have a big balcony. A rather small balcony and a bigger room would be more interesting. The bathroom was really small and the shower divider doesn't really work since half off the water ended up on the floor.
The surrounding areas were a bit disappointing since the children0s playground is a bit run down and the way to reach it is quite dangerous for a small child, too many steps and unprotected parts that lead to bodies of water.

The spa is really beautiful and good. Very peaceful and relaxing environment.
The curtains didn't block properly the sunlight.
Price is a bit high for what you get.

Very good breakfast, great spa and very nice location. Vila Nova De Cerveira is a very nice town. The staff at the breakfast was very friendly.
The restricted opening time for the spa for babies. Not being able to have lunch and dinner in the hotel directly (the restaurant for this is just one minute walk but with a child it is better to have it in house).
