Room was large with a very comfortable bed. Bar area was ok. Evening meal was good. The location was very good. Great for a walk up Mam Tor.
Although the room was large there wasn’t a storage cupboard, only a storage wrack. There is plenty of room for a wardrobe for storing clothes. Didn’t bother us too much as we were only staying for 2 nights.

Friendly staff, excellent breakfast and evening meal. Staff there when needed and not over powering as in some hotels. Overall, a pleasant stay.
The radiator in the room wasn't working although there was an electric heater to use as required. This wasn't reported as we presumed it was an attempt to save energy and didn't cause any problems.

The room was very clean modern and spacious .we stayed in the annexe adjacent to the main building
Nothing all was great

Lovely room, comfy bed, very clean, surprising no pub noise in the room
Lack of toiletries on offer in the room.
Room was very cold on arrival.
Breakfast service was very slow only one member of staff on, meaning a long wait when all you wanted to do was eat and get out and about. On both days of my stay the eggs were under cooked and sent back and the food was cold by the time it arrived at the table.
Tea urn ran out of water on both days.

The location was good and the village it’s self, good mountain walks, Mam tor just up the road and was very good
There was no management actually overlooking the staff, people wanted serving and staff just stood around taking, on check in at 3pm our room was not ready and we waited 45 minutes, we had to ask again for the room, very poor
At breakfast there was only 4 couples at the restaurant and we had to wait around 45 minutes to get our breakfast, the chef would only make breakfast for one table at a time which took far too long before he/ she would start another order, some of which was cold when we did get it, very very poor service, this is not how to treat your customers if you want them to return!! If I go back to Castleton I will not be staying here again! The management seriously need to look at themselves on customer service and how to run the front of house!!!!!. NOT GOOD

We live staying here. Second time from Australia and it is just delightful. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. The location is lively and the pub food and drinks with the service is 10 out of 10! Highly recommend and we will be back.

Stayed here a few times, venue, location, food usually good.
Not so keen on room number 16 in basement next to road, it was a last minute booking and they were full it being close to Xmas, so it’s probably our fault. Will go again though.

location & Sunday roast
noisy from upstairs!

The staff welcome was exceptional, the facilities very good, the evening meal very good, and the evening staff were very attentive and pleasant. Location right in the heart of Castleton which looked superb with the Xmas lights, parking was good. The bedroom and bathroom were very good, nice decor, sockets available and to hand, and the bed very comfortable.
The breakfast was scheduled between 7.30-9.30 on a sunday. Of course all guests therefore came at the same time at 9am. There was only one member of staff who was very polite but clearly unable to cope.
Menus, coffee, juice all constantly ran out, waste not collected, an hour wait for something to eat (past 10am). Breakfast itself was a la carte and lovely when it arrived. Distributing one pot of jam with the toast was poor. These should be available on the side table with a choice. One additional staff member or time booking would assist this.

We both love Castleton. The Castle is prime location
I didn't like my breakfast on our last morning. Avocado was spread extremely thinly & egg was hard & hardly any of the egg white .

We have stayed at the Castle in Castleton four times now. We love it. It is in a good location in the heart of Castleton. The rooms are beautiful with great facilities. The bar area is warm and welcoming with real fires. The breakfasts are delicious with a good choice . Last but not least the staff are warm, friendly and professional. A lovely place to stay.
