Breakfast server (I can't remember his name was excellent) and really positive and welcoming. Breakfast itself was ok. The dining room was very lovely, with great decor although the car park view does detract but that can't be helped. He also had to check us out as there isn't a proper reception area - you stand in the hall. He needs a pay rise - waiter and receptionist during breakfast service.
Wifi in the room wasn't good, a poor signal that kept dropping out so couldn't check emails (it was a getaway but being self-employed means I do have to check at least once a day at this time of year)
At dinner, we were put on a table between the kitchen and bar so constant noise and staff walking past us all evening, there were no other free tables laid up for use. I also had to send my burger back 3 times, I like my meat cooked right through and asked for that but it came bloody, I sent it back and it returned still very red (the waitress said the chef wanted me to know that the meat was good and from a local farm, That's all well and good but I've never like raw or even medium cooked meat) I returned it and again it came back red/pink in the middle - finally it came cooked through but by then my wife had almost finished her meal and the burger was now cut into pieces and dry on the outside. What happened to the customer being right, especially about how we like our food cooked?

Beautifully refurbished and properly interior designed. Lovely lounge and restaurant. Large comfortable bed. The food is outstanding, especially the in house reared beef. Friendly service.
Hard to be critical of such an excellent place. It's been refurbed beautifully internally, but the outside still needs doing. Definitely not a book to judge by the cover!

The food for breakfast was delicious and dinner was exceptional !
Such a perfect location, peaceful with lovely walks along the River Barle which is on the doorstep.
A perfect escape to relax with an informal feel and the staff are polite and welcoming.
We hope to make this an annual visit
I had not confirmed that I would bring our dog so we had a small room with very little storage but a dog bed, towel and bowl was provided on request.

A very authentic ambience. Kept the tradition of Exmoor alongside a more modern theme. Food was excellent and a rather unusual but interesting local menu.
nothing!

everything
nothing. just a suggestion: in our room there was some noise that we can’t understand. I would check in the night if it’s persistent and solve it.

This is an exceptional country hotel, it is independent, run by a small enthusiastic team. The cooking is first class, breakfast and evening meal, and the ambience is enhanced by the wood burners in the resident's lounge and the dining area. Brilliant! Also a great spot in the middle of Exmoor.

The location is fabulous - amazing walks just outside the door. Lovely decor throughout, tastefully done. Food was first class and staff were friendly and always smiling.
Stairs would be challenging for some.

beautiful little hotel and restaurant. very clean, everything you need and good beers. by far the best thing was the food …. exceptional. The French family visiting were incredibly impressed with the quality of the food to the extent they wanted to meet the chef - who obliged. Fully recommended.

The room photos were of newly refurbished rooms, so you can imagine my disappointment when my room, a non-refurbished one, although pleasant, did not match my expectations from the photos.

Food is excellent, both breakfast and the evening meals. The ingredients used a mainly locally sourced so good from an ethical perspective.
The room could do with updating but was spotlessly clean, climbing up the steep stairs after walking 11 miles. TV reception is a little dodgy but that isn't the fault of the hotel,

Great breakfast in every respect
Toilet seat wouldn’t stay up, nowhere to hang clothes, no coat hangers, no plug in the bathroom for shaving.
