it was close to the beach
they did not allow visitors to my room. There was an additional charge for some soiled linen that could have easily been cleaned. Overall maintenance was not great. There were few services in the hotel. Bar and restaurant were only open on the weekends.

The location is perfect, the view is amazing. The architecture is beautiful, it has a nice pool. And the staff were very friendly. There seems to be an unspoken rule that this hotel is for posh, gay, male couples, so I didn't quite fit in lol. But I really enjoyed the vibe!
I had the smallest room in the hotel (the rooms are not all made equal), so my experience may not be applicable to all rooms. But I found that the room was extremely basic and small considering the high price.

clean, bright large rooms location
no food services, no drinking water available

the property itself is gorgeous and very well maintained, every little hallway and corner was beautiful to look at. our room was on the first floor and had a door that opened right onto the deck with a view of the ocean, so even just taking a rest felt luxurious. the people who run the hotel, Tino and Estrella, were so friendly and helpful, and the whole staff were exceptional.
the restaurant wasn’t operating for most of our trip and there were no hours listed. also be advised that the hotel is about a 15 min walk from the downtown strip so if you need dinner you likely have to walk that long. the distance from downtown does ensure it is very quiet and peaceful.

Beach front with great location, great sundeck with beach chairs
it was in the process of renovation and amenities were not available: pool and bar, half of the deck was under construction, despite an over $100 per night price point they did not offer air conditioning in rooms, the rooms with AC would cost double, for Mexican standard this is ridiculous.
1.0 / 5.0
The room was large and airconditioned. The location was on the beach with the rooms front facing. There were decent restaurants just down the beach from the hotel.
Where do I begin:
1. Only cash accepted. I had been notified in advance, but this was still an imposition.
2. Only sheets provided for the bed. No blankets at all in the room or available.
3. A live cockroach greeted me on the bed when the lights came on for the 1st time. A smaller living bug was located in the sheets. I actively sprayed the bed and the room and located 2 more that were seriously dead the following morning, fortunately on the floor and not in the bed.
4. Bug parts and other debris in the sheets.
5. A few hairs on the pillowcase.
6. No in-room sealed bottles of water and none available for sale. Since it was night all local restaurants were closed, I had to utilize my emergency bottle in order not to drink from the tap.
7. My room: 4th floor walk up. No elevator available.
8. Loud disco music from the park and party center next door. No end to it, day-to-night. Limited, if any soundproofing in the room.
9. No one apparently on duty after hours. It seemed like no one would be available to help if there had been an emergency.
10. Cold water showers only in the room.
11. Empty pool. No water.
12. The only 4 star part of the experience was the price: $170.00 per night.

So close to the beach

Right on the beach, great spacious and clean rooms. In the calmer end of Zipolite, so very quiet at night. Good amount of sunbeds for the guests.
the cleaning was always very late in the afternoon. as in still not done when we came back from the beach at 4pm.
it would be nice if the staff at the hotel would make an effort to clean their area of the beach. Often there was rubbish from the day before and the beach chairs scatterede around as they were left the day before.

Being right on the beach is the big draw here. nice to have a little kitchen in the room and loungers on the beach.
the bathroom was a bit depressing, shower was a dribble.

Hotel Estrella De Mar (EDM) has a good architecture - white Santa Fe style - but it not an Hotel. It is a nice building with rooms with no services. There is no hot water, no blanket, no coffee machine, no drinking water, no ice, and the kitchen was closed for the 4 days I was there. However I have to say they have AC and Wifi. Every time I asked for info, the staff was invisible, had no clue or tried to extort money from me. Luckily my Spanish is fair enough and I was able to communicate but don’t expect staff members to speak English.
Three hours prior my arrival I tried repetitively to announce an unexpected plane delay but nobody did answer my calls or texts. I was not sure of the check in policy and wanted to confirm my late arrival. Only a few minutes away I was able to make contact.
When I arrived, a watch man, I believe, was there. I ask him where could I get food at that hour - 9PM. His answer was… “get on the road and you will see”. 20 minutes later, I ended up at a taco stand on the street, very low even by Mexico standard. The following day I learned that the right answer should had been - go to the beach, turn right, and you will find plenty of restaurants and bar open”.
On Saturday, I had a massage therapist coming to my room and 10 minutes later a staff member came to my room and order the massage therapist to leave the room right away. It was for my “own security” and it was against hotel policy. Beside the no nude sign on the wall of the main entrance there is no other sign - by the way the nude beach is in front of the hotel. After a long discussion to calm down the hotel staff member, he explained to me that for 150 pesos I could receive the massage therapist of my choice in my room. I paid the fee… I believe this is the definition of extortion.
For your trip in Zipolite, If you are looking for a bed with white sheet in a cleaned white room in a good building with no soul at a relatively good price… this is your place. However Zipolite has so much more to offer. The town is over flowing of love and peace but EDM is not included. Until there is a change of administration at EDM, who will understand the need of their clients and the service industry, please extend your search to another hotel.

great view of the ocean and nice to have lounge chairs there to use.
not much atmosphere, bar usually closed, no music, not much going on. on the far end of the beach. Most people were of a certain demographic that we were not.

Nice spot on the beach. Terrific room and friendly staff. Hopefully, we will return.

It's an amazing place for you to relax, enjoy the sea, the beach, and the sun. You'll wake up with the sound of the ocean and open your eyes just to have right in front of you. I really enjoyed its location, quietness, and view. If you enjoy nudist beach such as I, you'll definitely have a great time here.
Do not expect a place for you to work, the wifi signal is quite poor. But this is not only about the hotel, is really more about the town. Nonetheless, they could have more POCs. About the service... hmmm do not expect any outstanding or memorable, they'll help you with the basics and that's it. Not that is necessary for you to have a great time, but keep that in mind.

Beautiful hotel with great location and big, clean and well furnished rooms.
No hot water, the wi-fi practically not working and the TV had only 2 canals.

The location is kinda far from everything, like stores, restaurants and shops. If u come here just for fun its the place but if u want more access to bars and restaurants looking for something close to the “el adoquinado” the street with food and stores
The place is kinda good looking but is super old, the bathroom is old and parts of them are broken.

Amazing hotel, extremely clean, works class views from the balcony, the perfect location - 5 minutes from la Playa del Amor, 10 mins walk from the nightlife. It’s true paradise here. I’m already looking at when to return.
Nothing!
