Centrally located
Ridiculously overpriced for what is a really tired and run down pub hotel. Breakfast was not even included. The hotel felt dirty and needs a complete refurbish. Coasties - recommend you avoid this one.

Location was convenient for first night on the coast to coast before we got a bus to the start point.
Really gross! The carpet in our room must not have been hoovered in months. It was really grotty, we couldn't walk around barefoot. It made me concerned that the sheets wouldn't even be clean. We ate in the Pennine Inn next door. Much nicer.

Extremely comfortable bed and very quiet
Lovely staff and beautiful cooked breakfast
It was all lovely
3.5
Very comfortable and warm room. Super comfy bed. Staff were friendly and efficient.
No breakfast available. Some light bulbs and bathroom fittings need attention.
4.5
Nice room friendly staff
Breakfast not included in the price

I really liked having a bath as we had been walking all day and I don't like showers!
The room was clean and comfortable and the staff pleasant.
The breakfast was very disappointing as there wasn't any fruit, fruit juice, cereal or toast. We have stayed at the Black Bull before and found the breakfast much better in the past.

Jack and Poppey were very polite on arrival and throughout, they made you feel welcome with good banter :)

There was no chef in due to holiday and sickness which was a shame as we were going to book breakfast directly with the hotel. As such when we checked out nobody was around to leave our room key with so left with a phone at the end of the bar.

New staff snd very friendly and attentive to needs
couldn't be more helpful

The staff on check-in were very friendly and amenable. The room was comfortable enough for one night. The location was great.
The room was modernised in paint only. The bathroom was dated and broken. There was a cupboard with emersion tanks in our room~ it was very noisy!
We pre-ordered breakfast for 8 a.m. no one was there and we were locked out of the breakfast room!

Room was a good size
Food was terrible had evening meal steak pie was so small crust too hard instant mashed potato all for £13.50 phew I know prices are rising but on top of accomodation prices this is ridiculous

The breakfast was extra cost. It was reasonable enough and the quality was OK.
I think an extra charge for toast was a bit ridiculous (for only one slice), and this was in addition to the cost of the breakfast. £20 for my dog to stay was a bit on the high side.

the village
overpriced.
NO breakfast provided despite paying £169 for one room.
Appalling value...

The bathroom is in need of upgrade, paint peeling from walls, mould around sink plug, no hot water in the morning. Also, no staff around. We were lucky to have only have paid £85 for the night. Ok for one night but was glad that was all.

When I left in the morning.
Told I wasn't entitled to breakfast...
Window wouldn't open in the room.
Pretty awful to be honest.
Next time I'll sleep in the park .

Good breakfast
Marijuana smell wafting around the corridor in the evening.

The hotel was closed because of the Horse Fair. I was the only person booked in for that night and I eventually found the back door key under a plant pot as no staff were present. The bar and kitchen were closed so no evening meal or breakfast.
As above plus the hotel is 'tired' and desperately needs a refurb. The price is excessive to say it does not include a breakfast.

Bedroom was reasonably comfortable, although not the type of room paid for and we weren't offered a refund.
Reservation made through booking.com for a superior family room as no twins were available. On arrival we were shown to a room with just one double bed which was totally unsuitable as we were two male colleagues doing a long distance walk. When I advised the lady the details of our booking she advised that Booking.com just ask for a room and don't specify what type. This I know is not true. Eventually we were transferred to a twin room.
Having been walking all day we hoped to get a meal but were advised that the kitchen closed at 5pm and we were too late.

Great staff, great food, good price.
Room 1 with the unlocked boiler cupboard was roasting! However the bed was v comfy! Room 4 much cooler but bed not so comfy. Also, there were no chairs in the rooms so, nowhere to sit...
5.0
great pub/hotel, run by Jack who mostly looked after everyone by himself, even did the breakfast run for the ones who chose breakfast - deserves a good review x
says no parking but lots of on-street parking - no issues at all. - this should be mentioned on the website.

Everything was how I expected it to be after reading the reviews.

Very dated—has not been updated. No breakfast.

The staff were fantastic but struggling as there wasn’t enough of them.
