Everything!!
Don’t miss this one on your next trip to Iceland.
Such a unique and beautiful place.
The room was small for a family of 5

The reception was extremely warm and I felt very welcome. I was impressed with the kindness of the staff.
In the evening I was also offered dinner, where I was able to interact with other travelers. And the food was great.
The facilities are very good too, and the hot pool was invigorating!

The setting, the museum on site, the people who work there, meeting the other travelers, the family-style dinners where we got to talk to others, the idea of the sauna and hot tub, the concept.
The bathroom door in the old house was a problem. One bathroom, eight people. The door was loud. The lock didn’t work well. Every time someone went into the bathroom, the door was LOUD then the lock was LOUD. It was difficult to sleep if anyone else was using the bathroom.
There’s also the issue that different nationalities of people have different bathroom conventions - for example, Germans leave the door closed when the bathroom is empty. USA people leave it open. That led to not knowing if the room was in use or not.
I mentioned it to the manager and I trust she’ll do something about it!Also, sadly, the plumbing in the hot tub/sauna was out of whack and the hot tub was not warm enough so it was less than ideal.
I’ve said so much negative but really I had a wonderful time. It was a beautiful place with beautiful people and I would go there again. The museum was excellent and interesting and so well done. The staff were so kind and friendly. It was a terrific experience.

The property was cute. Etti, probably spelling that wrong I am sorry, was so friendly and helpful and it was such a pleasure getting to talk with him. The food was amazing as well for dinner.
It was hard to get it to pull up on GPS for directions. Use Waze instead of google.

Awesome location - you feel like you are off the tourist circuit. Lovely staff and beautiful dining area. Really special place to stay
Breakfast was good, but basic.

Great staff who were very accommodating, super comfy beds, clean, great food!! Farm dogs were lovely. Very quirky and unique! Outdoor pools were fantastic. Real character, made me feel like I was in a slice of 50s Iceland. Icelandic Lamb Dinner! 🤤🤤
Main house was creaky, could hear people moving about. One toilet for four rooms. All things considered, I would stay again!,

Rural beauty, serene and off the beaten path. Like going under the rope at a museum and sleeping in the bed. Something spiritual about the place just made you want to slow down and be for awhile. Family dinners were a pleasant change to the hotel fare. Well worth the jog off the beaten path!
When I had to leave.

All was perfect.
The dinner was the best that I ate in my life.

free upgrade, fantastic museum. food in the evening was good
surrounding is quite, but I expected a bit more wilderness and activities, sauna was ok, hot tub didn't work. pictured suggested much more

Friendly staff, nature, the museum, sauna.
Hot outdoor bath tub could not be used.

This place is as secluded as it gets. It’s pretty amazing to enjoy the quietness there. The sauna area with hot pool as amazing especially in the evening right under the thousands of stars. The furniture and decorations are amazing.
Make sure you communicate your expectations clearly. We didn’t pay for our breakfast beforehand and we were not expecting any. When we woke up there was breakfast ready for us as we were the only ones in that night and we ended up paying for it little bit more than we expected. The host was very nice and probably didn’t want to leave us hungry as we haven’t met the day before and couldn’t discuss whether we want to eat or not. The breakfast was very rich and delicious. It just made us feel a bit awkward in the end this entire situation :)

The owners were very friendly and accommodating. The farmhouse was traditional and charming. The purpose built sauna, lounge with hammocks and outdoor hot bath were all excellent and very cosy and relaxing.
Breakfast was served in the rustic farmhouse kitchen and was a great start to the day.

Great place. Really nice food. Don’t forget to visit the museum.

Everything was just perfect

Loved the lokrekkja! Beautiful place and loved the attention to details. The museum was interesting.
In dire need of hooks. Had problem hanging my coat and same goes in the shower facilities - couldn’t put my bag anywhere beside the floor.

Location and environment is amazing! So peaceful and unique experience where you literally feel like you’ve been traveling back in time.
Everything about this place is unbelievably gorgeous and beautiful with great service and amenities.
The food is wonderful and beds are very comfortable.
I highly recommend to stay at the Wilderness Center for at least for 2 nights to enjoy fully this incredible place and what it has to offer.
It’s without a doubt one of my favorite places in the world.
Nothing, everything was perfect.

The breakfast and dinner we purchased were delicious and plentiful, and the two dining areas were cozy. We met some delightful people during our stay at the Wilderness Center. The river valley is beautiful.
The wooden bedframe for one of the twin beds in our guestroom nearly collapsed. The guestrooms did not lock properly.
4.3
The most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in! We had the double private room in the museum which was lovely and although it may seem a bit expensive I think it’s worth investing in places like this one. The home cooked dinner and breakfast were heaven and the owners are the cherry on top of the cake!
4.3
Nice area for walks
Unfortunately the Bathhouse burned in a fire, it will not be available to use for some more weeks.
4.3
Lovely accommodation with amazing decor and the spa is a total bonus!
No use of a kitchen and their ‘restaurant’ closes at 9pm. We arrived pretty late and hungry, but luckily we had some cold food with us.
4.3
Great getaway, cars kept at distance. Rooms, restaurant, bathhouse, books and museum all beautiful, with great attention to details. Holistic environment, artistic, calm, cultural... and plenty to do
