Deceived about Shangri La. My stays precovid were much much better and I thought that I would be the same....What a deception , to the point that I cancelled my second stay there and booked Galle Face Hotel which was above expectation

Unexperienced staff across the line, messy , the breakfast was as if you are in a canteen area so crowded and felt it was not clean.....

The room was comfortable but the “ocean view” is actually a “port in construction view”. The facilities were good and management flexible enough to give us a late check out.

The service was really poor everywhere. We have waited so long at the pool bar to place an order. Nobody was checking on us and when we finally ordered food, it arrived cold and we had to ask for cutlery. At the lounge bar, we have asked for a vodka sour (only whisky sour on the menu) and it was a huge deal to have it. The waiter explained that it doesn’t have the option on his till so he would have to charge me for 2 vodka + 1 soft. So my drink will be 3 times the price of the cocktail. It can seems a small detail but in a 5 star hotel, when a client ask for vodka instead of whisky in a cocktail, the staff should make it happen without telling to customer all the back office details. Finally, we had diner at the capital bar & grill. I ordered a steak which came overcooked so I send it back. The waiter came back with my plate, my steak cut in half, saying to me that it is not over cooked in the middle. I mean… who does that ???cutting the food of the customer and bringing it back to the table ! This is unreal. I will definitely not come back to this Shangri-La or any other in the world.

i enjoyed the stay but overall the hotel was not a choice for people who wanted to relax

the location was amazing the hotel is attached to a mall the lobby lounge is great

its mentioned that there is a coffee machine but we only found a boiler the lounge on the roof was very noisy since my room was in the 28th floor the ballroom that was for weddings is in the lobby so the lobby is always very very very crowded and noisy.

100% recommend the horizon ocean view suite!

perfect location, great access to shopping mall and beach, we stayed on floor 31 - this is the best floor as it’s the top one! the horizon suite is the best option, the room is massive with a huge wardrobe, two toilets, huge bathroom, office and lounge with panoramic views. the staff are very helpful and will assist with anything, breakfast was amazing they have every type of cuisine!

Exceptional Shangri-la

Staff were exceptional, although it's a big hotel we felt very special, the personal attention we received was outstanding. This was the best service we experienced in Colombo. They really know how to look after their guests. The Shangri-la exceeded our expectations. We are also upgraded to a premier ocen view room, which was a wonderful experience. We ate in the central cafe and the Japanese restaurant and the food and service was exceptional.

Only thing that spoiled our stay and nothing to do with he hotel was the music festivals on the green below the few nights that we were there. Thank goodness we always take wax airplugs with us on hols. This enabled us to sleep soundly.
