The Pool area was spacious and looked really nice.
The sheets weren’t really spotless and the bathroom had a bit of a smell unfortunately.

Excellent location and menu for breakfast. Very warm hospitality, and caring staff.
No doors for bathrooms. A problem specially when you are staying with kids/ large group.

Staff were incredible. Very friendly and accommodating. Great location, away from the crowds and yet sill very close to Ubud centre. They allowed early check-in and late checkout and when one of our guests was sick, they helped to take care of her and gave a complimentary meal. Highly would recommend this retreat. The massages here were great also!
The rooms were a bit old but very clean.

Beautiful location, friendly staff, nice shuttle service for going to Ubud
The rooms are noisy. You can hear the neighbours walking above you and next to you, closing doors,…

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mathis Retreat. It was our first time to Ubud together and the staff (especially Fitri) made us feel so welcome! The views across the rice fields were beautiful and the pool area was a pleasure to lounge in. Highly recommend!

The property was incredible! Exactly as it says! A retreat in Ubud that is close enough to see the amazing sights that Ubud has to offer but also slightly out which gives you the more rural setting, providing you with peace and tranquility! We are travelling with. Two year old and needed a place to stay which would be easy and chilled! Look no further if you are travelling with kids! The property has an on-site restaurant that provides the most delicious food at a cost but well worth it! It’s easy to go for dinner and then step back in your air conditioned room. We also ventured out to the restaurants on our doorstep that were priced amazingly and excellent quality. The staff at the resort were next level, so friendly and accommodating! This was a little piece of heaven in crazy bustling Ubud! 💜

The pool and staff were great
The bathrooms were terrible, paint falling iff the walls, rising damp and mould on the soap dispenser.
For the price u pay at a miniumim you expect clean and crisp. Feels like a old house renovated on the cheap.
For a day visit to the pool a d view with the great staff is good but i wouldnt stay there again for that price. Better options out there

Great location and the. Breakfast was good with many options.
Relocation from one accommodation to another after confirmation of booking. Communication from the reception to guests could have been better between the booking and the arrival at the property. When we were at Shamkya villa (no 6), I noticed a vertical drop about 2 metres just next to the main entrance of our villa. There were no safety rails to prevent any accidental fall.

Lovely play to stay. Rice terrace is just fabulous. Very calm around, nice pool, great restaurant. Rooms are okey, quite stylish. Nice view through the balcony. You can walk till Ubud city centre, don’t even need a taxi.
There were mosquitoes sometimes near the pool. So don’t know if the hotel using something against them. Price a lil bit too high for those standarts.

absolutely enjoyed my stay here

The area is amazing. Rice fields and birds as far as the eye can see. There were beautiful tropical gardens and ducks in the pond. The restaurant was great and staff were lovely. The rooms were a little basic but nice - the tub in the bathroom was stunnng. Best of all, the pool overlooking the rice fields was a absolutely gorgeous and very relaxing.
The internet was poor and there was NO tv facilities. The retreat advertised full access to foxtel etc but there were no channels at all.

Nice pool area with a view over the rice fields. The room was clean and beautiful and the breakfast was good. The staff were kind but not as personal comparing to those at the smaller family owned places we stayed at during the rest of our holiday. Quiet place with beautiful surroundings but next time I will choose a place closer to central Ubud but still outside town. Because of the traffic and lack of pavement it´s not a nice walk into town and after dark you have to take a taxi. Though there is a nice smaller but longer path you can use in daylight. And the hotel has a free shuttle that runs a few times per day.
Avoid dinner at the hotel restaurant Terracotta. It´s expensive and boring. There are so many good restaurants in Ubud to choose instead. I wish the staff could have given us more information about what to do and see on our own in Ubud with surroundings and at the hotel. The link to their website with hotel information at the card in the room didn´t work.

I booked Mathis based on the great reviews I read here. I definitely did the right choice because it is really a place with the best staff you could ask for in whole Bali. Nicest and kindest people who just want to make sure your stay is as pleasant as possible. They were always asking for feedback and wanted to make sure you are happy and everything is as expected. Supriman and Wayan from the restaurant staff were simply amazing, they made my last hours at the hotel very enjoyable since I was traveling alone and they kept me company at the bar.
The place looks exactly as in the pictures, great location and super close to the center. I would also recommend to try the massage, it was an amazing experience. I read many people were complaining about the wifi, but to be honest, almost everyone buys a sim card in Bali and uses that internet because it's super cheap. So in case you are unhappy with the wifi just buy a sim card and use 35 GB for 5€.

Everything, it’s really worth for that price, rooms are beautiful with nice views of rice fields, even views from the restaurant and pool are enough. The staff is the best of this place, from manager to housekeepers they are always keen to help anytime, special mention for Supry. Ask for him on the bar, you’ll have best chat ever.

Great hotel, the staff was very nice, the room was amazing and had amazing views to the rice fields. I loved the bath tube in the bathroom.
The breakfast was incredible, with lots of options to chose from.
It would be great if the room was soundproof as I was located next to the stairs that went to the second floor and I could hear everytime someone went upstairs.

Firstly, this retreat is set amidst rice fields so is exceptionally beautiful. Every room has rice field views, the restaurant overlooks the rice fields and the pool as well. You don't actually realise just how wonderfully relaxing this vista is, until you are here. The rooms are large and airy including a big bathroom with huge bath. The bed was the most comfortable bed and pillows I have ever come across in Bali, firm but soft and comfortable. Linens were of a high quality. The food was all of the highest quality thanks to Chef Kadek. The a la carte breakfast menu just spoilt me and put all those mass produced buffet breakfasts at other Bali hotels to shame. The pool was wonderfully deep and cold. Free shuttle into Ubud central when you want, Grab car back is around $4-$6 AUD. However, probably the best part of the retreat are the wonderful staff, every one of who wrap you in a cacoon of comfort, even taking your hand and helping you walk to your room during a heavy rain storm. I am very much hoping to return. Actaually, now I have experienced Mathis Retreat, I won't be able to stay anywhere else.
Shower was a bit low
