About this cottage rental
Completed in 2019, The Westwind epitomizes the pinnacle of architectural elegance and craftsmanship. This exquisite Maine cottage boasts breathtaking ocean views and a prime vantage point over “The Cove,” ensuring a front-row seat to its serene beauty and lively activities. Nestled within a secluded 68-acre summer retreat, The Westwind offers unparalleled access to the ocean, tranquil forest trails, and a private 11-acre island. Managed by the same family for over 123 years, "Floods Cove" is a timeless haven for those seeking an authentic Maine oceanfront experience.
No detail was overlooked in the design and landscaping of The Westwind. Whether you seek a luxurious family getaway filled with outdoor adventures or a serene adult retreat, this cottage is the ultimate destination. The Westwind combines “Camp Chic” with modern elegance, featuring knotty pine ceilings, nickel-gap white walls, poplar doors, and crystal doorknobs.
The cottage comfortably accommodates guests with three bedrooms: a master suite on the first floor and two additional bedrooms with a bath upstairs. For extra guests, a cool queen bed is available in the new dry basement, along with a washer and dryer for convenience.
A standout feature is the expansive wrap-around porch, offering panoramic views of the ocean, the beach, “Pa’s Island,” and all of Flood’s Cove. This is the perfect spot to unwind, read, socialize, or nap while enjoying the refreshing summer breezes and warm sunshine of the Maine coast.
With private access to the beach and ocean right outside your door, you can wade in the water, swim, or explore over a mile of exclusive shorefront by kayak or paddleboard (included). After a day of seaside activities, rinse off with an outdoor hot water shower, designed to soothe and refresh.
Why settle for a mere “cottage” when you can experience an “estate”? A stay at The Westwind promises a rejuvenating retreat and leaves you eagerly anticipating your next visit to this enchanting cove. Please note, The Westwind is a no-pet, no-smoking property, ensuring a pristine environment for all guests.

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay in Flood’s Cove. The house has a great porch with fantastic view of the cove - perfect for reading, coffee, meals of a glass of wine. House is new and well equipped (missing only a dishwasher, but with a washer and dryer) and comfortable for the 4 of us to spread out. Convenient location to explore the Maine coast including Boothbay, Damariscotta and Rockland. Chuck is very easy to work with and helpful. We’d love to return to this wonderful spot.

Paraphrasing the Billboard “Maine, Life as it Should Be - is perfect for Floods Cove. Beautiful property and house - really well equipped and furnished nicely. Porch view terrific. Really quiet - lobster boats are close enough to see but far enough as to not rouse you from bed too early. Owners are available 24/7 and extremely responsive. Friendship has just about everything you need at the General Store - do get a pizza - and Jameson Point seafood restaurant- really fresh and delicious. We will be back!!

Perfect place for relaxation
The property was exactly as pictured and described on line. The property owners were extremely responsive, welcoming, and helpful. I was looking for a place to rewind and relax with a beautiful view and this definitely checked off all the boxes. Spent the majority of my time on the wrap around porch during the day enjoying the views, sunsets, and a variety of birds and at the fire pit in the evening. The overall area surrounding the cottage has nice paths to explore and walk and is also not far from Rockland, Camden by car. I also highly recommend the convenience store not far from the property. It is well stocked with everything and also does a great job with pizza and sandwiches.

Beautiful view
We arrived after dark in rain and had a difficult time locating the house. No lights left on and it is hidden from the road. House is nice but owner told us the night before to bring our own sheets and towels though listing stated linens provided. We were en route and could not travel with linens. He left a laundry basket of odd ragged sheets on the bed. Next morning towels were brought by a very nice neighbor who oversees the property. House is located pretty far from town so we had to travel a ways to go to dinner. 30-45 minutes each way. House does not have central heat or air conditioning or closets. The night before we were to check out we were told that we had to vacate by 9am. Listing says checkout is 11. I said that we needed more time but owner insisted his cleaning people had to get in. This owner was not very hospitable and seemed not to even know what his listing said.
There was laundry wet in the dryer when we arrived. Also there is a bed in the unfinished basement but I would not consider that a bedroom. Bare mattress in a damp basement. House I'd rate 4 but owner a definite 2.

Great Location, Great Vacation
One of the best locations on the water. Great views, great surroundings. Perfect location to visit many of the sites in Maine. We used the Westwind as our home base as we made day trips to Bar Harbor, Camden, Damariscotta and Freeport. Westwind has a fantastic front porch to enjoy your morning coffee while watching the lobster boats make their daily trips. We really enjoyed the comfort of the Westwind. Looking forward to another visit.

Floods cove
Overall a nice stay. My only complaint, no television. I wish I had known as we are huge sports fans and it was playoff season.

Great stay
We stayed at the cottage in Floods Cove in mid-September. The cottage is brand new and located right on the water. We had beautiful views over the water, and enjoyed sitting outside by the firepit at night. Our host Chuck was terrific and very helpful.

Wonderful Experience!
My wife and I were looking for a quiet & isolated place to work remotely while enjoying the autumn scenery of coastal Maine. The Westwind did not disappoint! The cottage was beautiful inside and out and the views of Floods Cove were fantastic! Quality of the design and construction were quite noticeable. The front porch was a great place for morning coffee and evening sunsets. Internet worked great, kitchen and bathrooms were like new, and the "great room" very comfortable. Most importantly, we thoroughly enjoyed meeting the extended family members of our host (the Flood and Thompson families) - they really made this a memorable experience. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful, and we are grateful that they were willing the share this experience with us. Already looking forward to a return visit!

Dream Fall Stay
This was an amazing location for my immediate family to reunite for a fantastic fall Maine experience. The location is second to none, located on a serene cove with beautiful, uninstructed views and the house itself is a beautiful, modern property. We were so happy to avail ourselves of the wrap around porch for sunrise/set coffee, the kayaks for exploring the local water and the fire pit for a cozy camping experience. The house was well appointed with all the amenities that were needed.
Chuck was an extremely welcoming and communicative host who added to the whole experience and was easy to contact with any questions we had. We will certainly be coming back again!

The Prefect Maine Getaway
After spending weeks stuck at home, the Westwind cottage was the perfect getaway. The cottage is well appointed with everything you need and we felt right at home. The location was amazing and everything you imagine when you think of the Maine coast. The owner was responsive and very easy to work with. Could go on and on, so let's just say we look forward to returning.

Peaceful and relaxing
My family spent a wonderful week at Flood's Cove. The Westwind is a beautiful, open, airy and very comfortable house, right on the shore of the cove. When not relaxing on the porch, we spent the week swimming, hiking around the property, and kayaking.
The Thompson and Flood families take great care of the Cove area and make their guests feel so welcome. It was the most peaceful and relaxing vacation we've had in a long time.

Maine Getaway
The property, known as the Westwind, was fantastic! The floor plan is open and airy with lots of windows looking out over Flood’s Cove. The wraparound deck was the perfect place to watch amazing sunsets. Chuck was very welcoming and responsive to all of our questions. The fresh flowers on the kitchen table when we arrived was a nice touch. Our teenage kids enjoyed the kayaks, paddle boards, and jumping off the rocks into the water at Beatrice Point. If you’re looking for a peaceful, relaxing location on the beautiful Maine coast, this is the perfect getaway!

Post-Season. Peaceful, Quiet and Stunningly Beautiful
This was our first visit to Flood’s Cove. It was a 2 week, post season stay in mid-October. We were looking for stillness, quiet, comfort and natural beauty. We found all of this and more in great abundance. The “Westwind” though simple and pristine in its design is new, open, airy, well-lit and very comfortable.
We found the two chairs which swivel and rock, the sofa which faces the water, the wrap-around porch and the queen bed in the main level bedroom, to be inviting and relaxing.
The days were significantly cooler and autumn colors stunning. The water, sky, light, rocky texture and easy motion of tides in the Cove provided ever changing allure and appeal. “Pa’s Island” is a thrilling walk at low tide.
Towards the end of our stay, a major nor’easter type storm came through, taking down trees and knocking out power for the entire town for over a day. Chuck & John, our hosts, were attentive, supportive and helped transform the stormy experience into one of the highlights of our visit.
The town of Friendship is rooted in local lobstering activity, historic architecture and minimal intrusion of the ever encroaching tourist trade.
Our two weeks at the Westwind, in Flood’s Cove, Friendship will be treasured for a lifetime.

Fantastic!
From the beautiful fresh flowers on the table to the incredible view from the super-sized deck, everything was wonderful! Friendship is a quaint town and an ideal location to sit and relax on the water or take a day trip to discover additional ME delights. Kudos to the Flood family on creating an ideal vacation spot and on being so hospitable!
