Property was great and staff went out their way to make sure we ate a meal as it was late
Great service
A fan is definitely needed in the room
4.3
Friendly welcome to a very cosy pub and wonderful accommodation.
4.3
Lovely room and staff
We liked everything apart from the breakfast basket. The cereals and fruit drinks weren’t to our liking
4.3
Location and friendliness of staff.
Only continental breakfast but cafe next door provided cooked breakfast if needed.
4.3
The location is great, as Hartington is the 'heart' of the Peak District.
The room was nicely decorated (seemed quite recent) and well equipped with big selection of teas, coffees etc. and fridge with fresh milk.
We arrived at 5pm, and were surprised to see croissants already in our room for breakfast.
I wouldn't call this a "Continental Breakfast" - as on the Continent, bakery goods would be fresh and there would usually be ham, cheese and fresh fruit.
There is photos of a full English and Eggs Benedict on the photos on Booking.com. - And the room description says "Exceptional Breakfast" - (10.9.23).
The brochure in the room recommended two local cafes, but didn't didn't say what time they were open - so we had to hang around for a while before we could get cooked food.
I would have preferred them to be more up front about the breakfast and offer a "room only" option.
Also - it seems the toilets for the pub are up the same stairs as for the room - and the bannister rail feels horribly dirty and sticky.

Good size room, comfortable bed excellent coffee machine etc.
Room extremely dark, bathroom window paintwork dirty and few cobwebs around
4.3
Lovely village to stay in, the coffee machine was great.
The shower had black mould on it, which clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly in a long time (but wouldn’t be at all difficult to do as came off easily when scratching it). From reading other reviews, yes we could have let the property know during our stay about this, however you would expect this would have been completed between guests, and they appeared very short staffed.
4.3
Set in a lovely village
No Sunday lunch
Bar closed at 20:00
Could only eat in dining room not bar
If eating outside different menu in boxes
Pastries for continental breakfast where in room on arrival for next day breakfast in room
4.3
Staff all very friendly and helpful - we were cycle touring and bikes accommodated no problem. Excellent shower, and a nice room, good food and drinks on site.
Just a small breakfast in the room but excellent cafe just a stroll away so no problem at all. Internet not the strongest.
4.3
Lovely inn, garden and great room. We had just a one night stay as part of a hiking trip and this was a perfect place to stay the night. Really lovely staff who let us wash our muddy dog in the garden after a long day of walking. Will certainly visit again.
Breakfast was fine with pastries and cereal in the room but the cereal options were a bit odd (I grew out of coco pops some time ago)!
4.3
Friendly staff comfortable bed
Dogs in dining room don’t mind small dog but had to eat dinner with Great Dane like dog standing next to my table slavering on the table .Owner couldn’t control and eventually took it outside
4.3
Great location for our planned walk.
Comfortable room with excellent shower.
Parking in front of the pub.
I can’t love continental breakfast left in your room from the day before. It does mean however that there’s a fridge in the room.
Food at dinner was OK but not great.
4.3
Location, room decor.
Lack of soundproofing, price.
4.3
Super friendly, good food, perfect location
The breakfast provided in the room was limited as there was no choice and nowhere really to eat it or prepare it.
Having said that, we would stay again as everything else was fab.
4.3
The location
The room smelt of drains which was coming up through the shower plug hole. Noise from an extractor outside the room.
Continental breakfast would have been ok except the croissant was delivered the afternoon before! Very stale the next morning.
4.3
Big comfortable room
No dining (Sunday). Vague organisation - they didn’t know we had booked breakfast but produced a good continental breakfast when asked. But nowhere for two people to sit and eat!
4.3
Lovely welcome, lovely room, great evening meal in the pub.
4.3
Friendly
Good bar food.
Reasonable price meals.
Breakfast in the bedroom not great for the price.
4.3
Lovely situation in village and meals in the bar were delicious and served by friendly helpful staff. A very comfortable bed. Continental breakfast was good but brought to our room. There was a choice to go to the cafe next door .
We enjoyed our stay very much but would have preferred breakfast at a table in the bar.
4.3
Gorgeous room, dog friendly, lovely walk-in shower, very comfortable beds & very good quality linen the garden was lovely & a lot of thought had gone into it, evening meal in the pub was excellent.
Continental breakfast in the room before we arrived? couldn't serve food outside.
4.3
the location and very friendly staff
The window in the main bedroom was screwed shut so it could not be opened , the bathroom window was a sliding sash window and not working we had to prop the window open to get fresh air into the bathroom and bedroom. Thought that if their was a fire this could become an issue and needs resolving sooner rather than later
4.3
Stunning location. The surrounding countryside is beautiful as is Hartington Village itself.
Excellent sized bedroom tastefully decorated. All mod cons TV, Fan , Armchair Tea/ coffee/Hot chocolate and posh biscuits.
Plenty of storage and spotlessly clean.
Friendly staff who remembered me from a previous visit a few months before which made me feel very important indeed.
The food on the night was excellent although recommend you book as it was very busy.
Loads of fresh thick soft towels in the bathroom.Plenty of hot water.
Plenty of on street parking which was all free.
It was all good. Nothing negative to say.
4.3
Lovely location. Great walks on your door step
Only did a continental breakfast in your room

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Devonshire Arms following a fantastic day at Chatsworth. While the hotel isn't conveniently located next door, the drive is acceptable. The Devonshire Arm is located in a he charming village setting.
The room, we were pleased with its layout and size. It had a nice ambience and provided ample space for us to relax and unwind.
Closing early on a Sunday evening - Upon our arrival at around 6:30 PM, we were disappointed to discover that the bar would be closing in just one hour because it was a Sunday. This news left us somewhat gutted, as we had anticipated enjoying some nice food and drinks on-site. However, we quickly adjusted our plans and found solace in a local bar/restaurant nearby, which managed to fill the void and salvage our evening. In fairness, we must admit that we didn't follow the instructions to book a table in advance. Had we done so, we would have been informed about the earlier closing time and could have explored alternative dining options. It's important to acknowledge our oversight in this regard.
Despite these shortcomings, we did enjoy our stay at the Devonshire Arms. The location was picturesque, the room was comfortable, and the alternative dining experience turned out to be quite enjoyable. However, it is worth noting that some improvements are necessary to enhance the overall guest experience, particularly regarding bathroom cleanliness and communication regarding the limited operating hours on Sundays.

Location is brilliant, perfect for those who want to go walking and also for those who want to relax. Breakfast is ideal, small hamper in the room every morning with cereal. It is super dog friendly, even offered a dog bed for our pooch. Beds are super comfortable.
Everything was perfect, but if I had to pick something I’d say the room was quite warm, even with a window open as only one was openable. There was a plug in fan though which I imagine is essential in the summer.
4.3
Room furnishings were lovely, nice shower, comfortable bed, enjoyed the continental breakfast and Tassimo coffee machine
Room 3, uncomfortably warm, windows in Bedroom do not open (Screwed shut), this resulted in very little sleep ☹️
