Beautiful cottage, peaceful location with stunning views

beautiful and unique cottage only a few minutes' walk from the woods. we did not expect the free ranging sheep in the village but it was fun to see them.
the hosts were really accommodating and the food and beer in the adjacent Miners Arms was fantastic.
a short drive to Lydney, and plenty of forest trails and tourist spots within a 15 minute drive of the accommodation.
the property location left a little to be desired, opposite a car service garage and car park where the rubbish trucks parked up. however, neither were visible from the cottage, which had a great view from the balcony.

It was a cosy cottage which was very well equipped. A real home from home.
Nothing, everything was perfect

This was our 2nd time at Miners Cottage and we will be booking again. The Cottage is great for us and our 2 dogs, there is a hallway outside the downstairs bedrooms doors where they can stay at night, the upstairs lounge has a balcony where we enjoyed sitting at night. The pub next door is very popular and does great food, plus there are lots of local walks nearby and the location is great for all the Forest of Dean attractions
Nothing to dislike if you like this area

Beautiful place to stay in a lovely location. It was easy to get to different places around the area from here such as RSPB Nagshead and Symonds Yat. The house is much bigger than expected and has everything you'd need in it. We had a very comfy stay there.
Nothing!

Lovely lounge with a fab view. Great central heating. Good shower. Fab kitchen. Nice food in the pub next door.
All good, couple of things - tumble dryer didn't work and valve to turn the radiator down in the master bedroom was behind the wardrobe. But only being picky it was really lovely.

- It was very cold outside during our stay but the heating worked well in the cottage which kept us warm
- There was a small welcome pack of food when we arrived which was a nice touch
- Nice view from the balcony and the outdoor area looked nice and spacious
- Upon arrival, we were told that the cottage was secure. However once we took a look around, we found that all doors were unlocked and the rear gate was propped open. Being next door to a pub caused concern from unwanted entry.
- Cleanliness was a big factor in the rating we have left. When we arrived at the cottage everything looked fine on arrival but as we looked closer we found a large number of what we think to be both human and animal hairs on the bedding - it looked like it hadn't been cleaned. As a result we had to spend 4 hours on our first night washing and drying the bedding which was very tiring considering we had just drove over 360 miles. On top of this, we also found that the bath had not been cleaned, the bathroom bin had not been emptied, and the children's chair in the living room was very stained.
- We had trouble with the TV remote, so we tried to switch the batteries and found that they were severely corroded.
- A day after arrival the owners husband asked how our stay was going and we raised the issue regarding the cleanliness but he dismissed our concerns and failed to offer an immediate resolution. It would have helped if fresh bedding was provided or if the bedding could have been cleaned while we were out of the cottage but this was not considered.
- Upon check out, we left within the requested time frame (9.30am) but when trying to return the property keys, no one was available and we hadn't been left any instructions on what to do in this case. Luckily, a cleaner was available to take the keys back for us but we weren't given the opportunity to raise our concerns stated in this review.
- We did receive a call from the owner a few days after we left the cottage to discuss our concerns and we were offered a refund of the cleaning fee. It was a nice gesture but the compensation, in our opinion wasn't sufficient for the discomfort and stress caused.

We liked everything. The Miner's Cottage is perfect! Lovely kitchen and bedrooms and the upstairs lounge opens out onto a balcony with fantastic views over the countryside. The cottage was right next to the Miner's Arms pub but you don't hear any noise from the pub, in fact it was so peaceful. You can park in the pub car park and can even order food from the pub to be delivered to the cottage. The location is perfect, just a short drive to the Wye Valley and there is even a steam train that goes past the cottage on certain days. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. We both fell in love with the cottage straight away. And just down the road there is an added bonus if you are a fan of Only Fools and Horses!
There was nothing we didn't like. Apart from that we had to leave but we have both said we would come back again.

very quaint cottage very well decorated
unfortunately we had an infestation of spiders in the bedroom a total of 4 spiders a lot of spider webs on the bedroom ceiling and in the en suite bathroom also 3 spiders. also the kitchen to the pub had a window in the bedroom though it was closed off with a blind and curtains.

Liked the location.
The fact that we had no shower or bath facilities for the duration of our stay.
Didn't like the fact the photo's were clearly taken a long time ago and not a true representation of the property.
Hot tub was in the photo's as serviceable but wasn't. Outside of the property very neglected.
4.5
everything you needed under one roof. cozy and plenty of room
had to be very care in the small shower not to knock the tap while washing as it would either scald you or freeze you!

Lovely location. Nice hosts and good pub food and play garden for children. Amazing views from the lounge upstaires.
Only negative was it was a bit noisey at night due to the bedroom being connected to the kitchen of the pub.

Perfect private getaway, with the pub only steps away
