Such a peaceful place to stay. We loved sitting on the reclining chairs on the private verandah of our beach house, looking out to sea and hearing the gentle waves lap up on the shore. A very comfortable bed and good shower. The food cooked by the family is very tasty, fresh and varied and we loved the pancakes and fresh fruit for breakfast and they make the best fried seafood spring rolls we have tasted in our 4 weeks of travelling. The family are lovely and very helpful and the daughters speak good English. In our 6 days there, we hired excellent mountain bikes from Hornbill adventures in the main town for 3 days and although extremely hot, cycled through the national forest to the pretty northern beach of Bai Thom and southern Sao beach, as well as the public beach in Phu Quoc. We also had a trip to see the coral with the owner in his boat. We enjoyed lunch and a chill at Rory’s bar (50 min walk and well worth a visit) and dinner at Kiki Coconut (10 mins walk and nice pizza for a change).
Sadly the sea is quite shallow to swim in and there is a lot of rubbish but the family do a great job cleaning it every day the best they can and the pool is lovely to keep cool. You need to ask to have your room cleaned and towels changed as not done automatically although they did ask us after a few days.

Maximal 2 Sterne

Our journey in Vietnam started with a week at Cay Sao Beach resort, which was absolutely great!!
The cabins are perfectly build, nice and clean! We stayed in one of the two cabins closest to the sea, which offered us a nice private space on the balcony, which we really valued.
The resort is small size and cosy, perfectly maintained and looks great with the tropical nature and the sea.
But the most amazing parts were the people and the food!
Many thanks to Nyny and her whole family for the great help with basically everything! The food was absolutely amazing, and that good that we had dinner here almost every day! We could easily do our laundry and rent a motorbike to explore the island.
We could ask Nyny to book trips for us, and they were offering their own transfer services.
Absolutely recommended to stay here a while and relax!!
All the best,
Rick & Suzanne

The property is beautiful with good facilities (you can use the kayak for free), bungallows have an amazing view and they are clean, comfortable. Foods are freshly made and delicious. Staff is really nice and one of them can speak english.
The motorbike we rented there was not working properly and it broke down and had no light.
Staff did their best to help us though.

This property is extremely beautiful. The huts are all ocean facing. All the basic amenities are available, rooms are clean. The most wonderful part is the host of this property. A small family manages this resort. They are the most beautiful and humble people. They will go above and beyond to help you out in anything you want. Special thanks to Niny, she helped a lot in arranging vegetarian food and tour tickets. We really liked staying on this property. Thank you for hosting us 🙂🙂🙂

Not a lot of food options in the area

This was a wonderful destination.
It is quiet, laid back and casual and exceeded our expectations.
Room was simple and wonderfully located overlooking the sea.
Pool was perfect to cool down. Sea swimming was limited.
Restaurant meals were simple, freshly prepared and excellent.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Pick up and drop off at the airport simple and smooth.
Cay Sao is located on the quiet side of Phu Quoc, this brings with it peace and quiet. There are other restaurants close by and a few quiet beach resort bars to drop in at.
We look forward to returning.

Very quiet beachfront, very clean and tidy and beautiful scenery. The bungalows are nicely spaced so they are very private. The food available was very fresh and very tasty.
No TV in the room which wasn’t a problem because the weather was beautiful but if it was raining then a TV would be needed.

We’ve really enjoyed the seaside view and the remote location. We’ve booked a motorbike from the Phu Quoc Airport for the all 3 days on the island. The city centre is about 20
min driving from accomodation.
We’d have appreciated. if we didn’t find some dirty towels left on the floor. Unfortunatelly the location is amazing, but the bathroom could be cleaner.
Also, we received only one towel by person for all 3 days to use it both for bathroom and face cleaning.

The bungalows and the whole resort are well-equipped. The staff is helpful, friendly and they cook perfectly. Their prices are quite reasonable.
Everything was perfect.

We stayed 3 nights here. I think this was our favourite stay from the whole 3-week trip in Vietnam. The staff is lovely, we felt almost part of the family. The place is very charming and quiet. Location is on the most "real" side of the island, not many fancy resorts around, which is a good thing. The food they make is great, all dishes were tasty and made with love. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. Wifi works fine. We rented a scooter from them and it was a great idea! Excellent value for money.
The aircon was very weak or it needs some maintenance.
That side of the island doesn't have the sunset.

The staff were super friendly and kind. The home cooked food was amazing! We loved the relaxed vibe.
We were there for 4 nights, it could have been nice to have had the rooms cleaned/bin emptied/clean towels during our stay.

It’s a nice and quiet place with own beach area, beautiful garden and bungalows.
The family is lovely and they do their best to realize if there are special requests.
The food is always fresh and warm which is cooked in their own kitchen.
They offer a motorcycle to move freely around the island.
the location is remote from the touristic city.
that’s good for the couples / guest who want to relax after a long day of journey or just want to enjoy the place.

Firstly and most importantly we liked the fact that for ONCE the pictures displayed on booking.com matched the reality.
Excellent customer service, wifi, and facilities.
It was pretty remote, which is ideal if you have a motorcycle or a car. There is nothing walking distance, other than other resorts, but not convenience stores.

The rooms are just great, all with sea views. It feels like a family homestay but with the added bonus of very private rooms. It's a very relaxing place to stay, on the quiet side of the island. Though there's nothing much else in the area, there is a nice small beach bar, Coco, within walking distance and the owners can help you with transport.
My booking confirmation listed credit card as the only accepted method of payment. When I went to pay like this there was a 3 per cent additional charge. That's not uncommon in Vietnam but you'd think it would be included when it's the only accepted method of payment. In fact, they also take cash.

The family that runs this place is extraordinary nice, friendly and helpful. We felt very much like home, it was so peaceful and beautiful and the food was also excellent. We highly recommend staying here <3
The bed was quite hard for our weak european backs 😅 But the family helped us with more blankets and a topper!

We had a wonderful stay. Especially our little daughter enjoyed the friendly host family. It is a good start for hiking in the close forest and mountains.
Although the hosts are cleaning the beach every day, the sea here carries a lot of waste.

Run by a lovely family who makes very good care of the grounds and makes sure that your stay is enjoyable. Great place for some relaxation time at the beach.

The owners are really nice and helpful! The whole resort is really romantic and calm place.
The messy beach but that's not owner's fault. They are really trying to keep it clean but unfortunately it's a never ending story.

Everything. It is never crowded, right on the beach, the bungalows are comfy, hammocks available and the food in the open air restaurant is excellent. All 8 bungalows have great sea view and you can guess only by the different price which one is closest to beach. In my opinion, the bungalows on the second row, even on the 3rd row have a better view than the waterfront one as you can also see the palm trees and the sand beach.
They arranged a masseusse for us and an airport car service.
No complaints. Just be aware that you can pay by card but will be charged 3% extra by the hotel and 3% extra by your bank. In a way you'd better pay cash.

I’m going to start this review by saying that this is a lovely laidback resort with only 8 bungalows in a remote very cute setting & that prior to my arrival at the property the staff were helpful with regards amending my booking when it was required and the staff in general are very nice.
The first two nights of my planned 10 night stay were absolutely fine sleeping hearing the sound of the waves and the sounds of nature, the food was good and reasonably priced and myself and a friend of mine who was also staying at the property were enjoying our stay.
Unfortunately on my third night of my stay I was woken and kept awake by a group of 3 in the bungalow behind mine to the point that it became intimidating with them running underneath my bungalow and banging on the floor, loud music, very loud talking/arguing, even standing on my balcony making ‘howling’ noises and at one point rattling my bungalow door which was fortunately locked between the hours of 12:00 - 04:00 am. The entire ordeal left me completely shaken, anxious, sleep deprived & fearful of my personal safety.
My friend who was in the bungalow in front of mine also heard the behaviour but was not the direct target of what I can only assume was homophobic abuse. The following morning I made the staff at the property aware of what had happened during the night to which they were particularly dismissive and said that they were unable to do anything about it. My friend and I decided that our stay was untenable and chose to leave the property early and flew back to Saigon. We were both charged the full rate for our rooms and not offered any form of compensation or refund. The booking dates have been amended on my ‘trips’ section of bookings though. I’m aware this was potentially an isolated incident which could have been handled much better by the resort.

The location is by the ocean. And I love the “stilt house” style of this resort. The tropical landscaping is eye caching and very relaxing. and my most favorite is this resort is small and a quite place.

Very lovely and well-kept family managed place.
Cay Sao Resort is a great address if you are searching for a quiete and remote place to stay on Phu Quoc. The bungalows are very cute and offer a small terrace to relax.
You cannot swim on this side of the island because of the tide, but the pool and sunbeds in the sand are a very nice trade-off.

I really recommend to go to this resort! The beach is beatiful and clean (on contrary to many other places on the island).
The service is excellent and the houselord is so kind and helpful!
Thank you for a great time spent there.
