Stowe is a beautiful town and the location of the property is the best feature.
It simply wasn’t up to our standards in terms of cleanliness or comfort. The living area/parlor in the front had worn, stained furniture with cushions that have caved in from overuse. I understand this property is rented often, so you’d imagine the owner’s could afford usable furnishings. The room also smelled of an overpowering stale soot/chimney odor that made it unpleasant to sit there as well.
We found cobwebs draped over the beds and in every corner, hairs in the bathroom and showers and even in the cutlery tray amongst the utensils. The remainder of the furnishings appeared hodge-podge and perhaps sourced from second hand shops. Nothing was tasteful, to include the outdoor area which was overgrown and neglected.
The downstairs bathroom smelled strongly of mildew and was unpleasant to use. Not a single washcloth or bar of soap was provided. We had to buy our own up the street. Unheard of for us, as we had been traveling for 2 weeks prior throughout the U.K. and every other property gave soap and wash/face cloths.
We never heard from the owner/manager after checking in. Not a word to see if we were comfortable or needed anything, despite having a 5 night reservation and paying a premium for the accommodation.
I (the paying guest) had to reach out to the owner and advise of our findings and less than stellar impression of the property. She acted totally shocked, became indignant and defensive but never offered to provide any assistance. Ultimately, her only concern was the impact a poor review would have on her ability to earn money in the future. And yes, those were her exact words. She was rude, flippant and exactly the type character you DON’T want to encounter in a situation like this. Her house manager did offer to provide another cleaning, but we were already 4 of our 5 days in and just wanted to be done with things.

It was a b&b so we made our own,but the lovely owners left us bread eggs and milk. It was a lovely surprise.
We loved how close to shops and lovely attractions.
It would have been nice to have a dryer or more racks to hang washing on.

Space and quirkiness
3rd bedroom needs to be made totally aware how small height wise it is too

it was beautiful, cozy, clean, and well equipped! The owners had left kind instructions for walks and restaurants as well as kindling and wood for the fireplace.

No.14 is a beautiful cottage, all rooms had an en-suite bathroom/shower room. The size of the property is very good. The owners gave us very clear and helpful instructions about the property, how to access the car park and suggestions for trips and places to eat. Upon arrival at the property we felt welcome. Complimentary food and breakfast items were available. The beds were comfortable. The house was clean and is well decorated. My favourite part of the house is the cosy library- sitting on a comfy armchair, literally surrounded by books. The location of the property is perfect, one can walk to the nearby shops, the main square and so many places to eat. If possible we would be very happy to choose this cottage again. Thank you Ash and Dave!

Excellent stay at no. 14! Great location, very clean and a comfortable cottage.
The owners provided a lot of detail on the area with places to visit, restaurants to eat at and local walks.
We were a party of 4 adults and 2 children (3 years) and the property provided ample space for us to enjoy our stay.
