We had a lovely, large, private room with attached bathroom, everything we could've hoped for. Nice social spaces to relax and meet others, beautiful natural garden space, very helpful chill and knowledgeable owner and staff.
Stove burners gave some trouble, located far away from everything in town (which is good and bad)

Tranquil little oasis in Palomino, thankfully further away from the bustling main street. German welcomed us warmly, explained us everything and gave us useful culinary recommendations. We also did an amazing bird watching walk through Palomino with him. His passion, joy and knowledge are beautiful to witness- we learned a lot - definitely a recommendation. Do this when you are in Palomino - it adds so much to your stay, as you don’t only learn about birds but also about Palomino and the people.
Rooms are spacious, comfy and clean.
If anything, a little more kitchen tools would be a good addition to the already well equipped kitchen

The hostel is perfectly maintained meaning it is super clean has nice rooms and a beautiful outside/ chill area where you can have your meals or just relax throughout the day. There is a nice kitchen where you can cook and a separate pantry for every room. The host and his team are really kind and helpful in any situation! I would definitely come back!

The vibe of the place is magical, you arrive from a busy main street in palomino to a quiet and relaxing place full of plants and good energy!
The host is always happy to help you and recommend places to go, they also tell you a lot about Palomino, their people and the indigenous of the area! It was a full experience! I would definitely stay here again if I come back to Palomino! Thank you Ger for your hospitality!!

Very nice place in a quiet area of Palomino. Has a kitchen with everything you need and beautiful garden. The owner, Ger, is a wonderful person and he can guide you to the indigenous people village and tell interesting stories about culture and fauna. We really liked the place and felt like at home, so even decided to extend our booking from 2 to 4 nights. They have laundry service also.

Maybe some ventilation issues but not bad

this place has a lot of potential. the interior is gorgeous and it’s a lovely property. the rooms are nice and it’s good to relax after a big trip. Good if you don’t want a party hostel. the kitchen is well equipped
it’s so noisy because of the cockerel who doesn’t stop from 5am for the rest of the day. there was also nearby construction. the owner has a baby and greets you with him, lovely but, if you’re going to run a hostel I suggest getting a member of staff that can help with guest inquiries if you are too busy with your own life. we waited over a day for a response about the toilet not flushing/ getting laundry done so in the end couldn’t do it. it’s also pretty far from town and it’s safe / not far to walk but there a lot of intimidating stray dogs. I understand this is a new hostel and hope that the feedback is helpful

The house has a huge garden with a lot of common areas including hammocks, couches and tables. The kitchen was big and well equipped, and the bathrooms clean. The private rooms have a mosquito net and a fan which is definitely needed. The host Ger was super nice and welcoming, he gave us so many tips and check-in time and even took us birdwatching - an experience I recommend!
The location is a little far from the main road and the beach but good way to get your steps in!

Jui Chi MaMa is a very special place and is located in an authentic neighbourhood and environment. The rooms and the garden are wonderful. The staff are very nice and helpful. It is a 15-20min walk to the beach, but it is very worth staying there. It is quiet there and you can relax wonderfully. The kitchen has everything you need. We will miss that place!!! Thank you!

A budding slice of paradise in a quiet corner of Palomino, the care taken in the creation of the space, it’s integration into the surrounding community and ecosystem, and the family-feel of the hospitality makes Jui Chi Mama the place to stay in Palomino. From the moment we were greeted by Germán, we knew the quality of our stay was important to him and his family. Germán took the time to sit with us with a map and orient us in the wider region of the Sierra Nevada and La Guajira province. If you like BIRDS or learning about local ecology and wildlife, you MUST book your tour with Germán. We had one of the best birding walks of our three month trip with his keen eye, beautiful storytelling, and kind and collaborative presence. Our room was very comfortable with a strong fan, comfy bed, great mosquito net, a cute little balcony, and clean private bathroom. The properties garden and communal space was lovely, though we didn’t make as much use out of it as it deserves as we spent most of our day out doing activities.

Beautiful Hostel (I think it's more like a Hotel) around a garden. There is a very nice open kitchen in the middle which is a great meeting point for all the chilled and relaxed people (more couples, not a party hostel, but great for solo travelers too). The host family Ger, Lau and Balam is gorgeous. They are always around and happy to help with everything. You can always contact them by whatsapp and they respond really fast and have very professional brochures in EN for several tours etc. I can really recommend the birdwatching tour with Germaine, his passion for birds and nature is catching! He even arranged a horseback riding tour on a great place a bit outside of Palomino. Best place I stayed so far, so I extended my stay twice - thank you!!!

The staff was very friendly. Our host gave us a good introduction to the life in Palomino. Everything was clean for the most part. Our room had enough furniture and power outlets. The garden is very beautiful, everything seems to be built keeping nature in mind and as natural as possible. We were able to use the kitchen to cook. The WiFi is great too.
Our room (and most of them, I believe) was located in a wooden house (or hut) built in an indigenous-like style which is pretty cool, however not great for privacy since you can hear everything that's going on in the gardens, some of the rooms and even on the street. We stayed there for two nights and there was a great amount of noise throughout our whole first night there, coming from clubs nearby, other guests talking loud and playing music at 2 am in the common areas as well as roosters cawing and dogs barking. The house is located in an area where apparently lots of roosters are kept as well as dogs in the street which I guess were triggered by the loud music too.
Honestly, it was a bit disappointing since we were expecting to have a peaceful time there, I guess it's not like that every night but we didn't have a great experience, maybe it was noisy because of the high season too.
I would suggest adding signs in the common areas asking guests to respect each other's sleep and be quiet during certain hours since apparently not everyone can be considerate or well-educated enough to do that.

This place is magic, the atmosphere, the privacy
The owner is a very transparent and wholesome guy, with various interests about indigenous cultures, ecology, and bird watching. I highly suggest you to join his tour because it feels very authentic and he explains you lot of his knowledge!

I really recommend staying at Jui Chi MaMa. The hostel itself is very clean and comfortable with a beautiful and calm garden. However I found there more than just a nice place to stay for a couple of nights. The owners have a great knowlege of the Palomino, it's history and the indegineus people who live around there. German also took us birdwatching - I recommend to you this activity with him, he knows a lot about the birds in Palomino and he is a great guide. Thank you very much German and Laura for the time in Palomino and good luck with your project!

German gave us a lot of information about Palomino and about what to do
The garden was also very nice with a lot of plants
The location was a bit far from the Main Street and the beaches
the kitchen was too small for so many people and not too well supplied

Everything! We had a really nice stay at Jui Chi Mama. The place itself is surrounded by a beautiful garden, our room was clean and had a fan and a mosquito net. The hostel is located a little bit outside of the city center, so it takes 10-15 minutes to walk to the beach and the main road with most restaurants. This did not bother us at all, since therefore the place is really quiet. Palomino seems to be super safe and we did not feel unsafe or uncomfortable doing the walk, even at night and carrying cameras.
The owners were super nice and friendly. Germán gave us a lot of helpful tips (for example where to spot the wild groups of howler monkeys living nearby Palomino). He also offers really nice birdwatching tours in the mornings, since the area around the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is crowded with different species of birds. Withing 3 hours we were able to spot around 60 different species (see attached photos). Germán knows everything about all these birds and helped us identify all of them. He was really passionate about wildlife and conservation of nature, which is awesome.
All in all we had a wonderfull week there (we had planned to stay just 3 days, but it was so nice there that we just stayed) with nice people, comfortable beds, delicious breakfast and a wonderful atmosphere at the hostel. We recommend it a 100% and wish Germán and his family all the best!

Super beautiful Hostal. The perfect place if you like nature and want to relax! There is so many nice details everywhere and everyone is super friendly! You can use the kitchen and a lot of nice areas. We extended our time there twice because we liked it so much! Super Clean and always a person nearby to answer your questions or to have a small chat in between :)
Sometimes the kitchen was super crowdy when there were many guests. Most of the times we waited then what was absolutely ok.
