About this cabin rental

Fortunately, some of the most beautiful places on earth can be experienced without the cost and responsibility of actually owning them. Red Canyon Ranch in the Black Hills is no exception. Situated high atop the Black Hills historic red-limestone and sandstone canyon, the location of the original route into the Hills for both Native Americans and the white settlers that followed, Red Canyon Ranch is a monument to the cowboy lifestyle, with elements of luxury and style that most cowboys have probably never seen. The cabin is a lodge-pole pine dwelling, in the tradition of an aged lodge. The cabin sits on 110 private acres and offers full views of Red Canyon from three sides, rustic floors and cabinetry with natural dry-stack, slate fireplace in the living room, and master bedroom, and sleeping accommodations for 6 people. An outdoor hot tub that nearly floats above the canyon’s edge makes soaking under the stars a life time memory.

On a clear day, Red Canyon offers extraordinary views to its east, where sheer red walls accentuate the awesome powers that went into its creation, as well as the intricacies of its meandering path. To the south, across the canyon, the dense clustering of centuries-old Ponderosa pine easily explains how the area came to be known as the “Black” Hills . To the west, the canyon continues with steep rock walls, dramatic outcroppings and a long distance view to Wyoming.

You'll Love Our Neighbors: Red Canyon is home to one of the most diverse wildlife populations in the Black Hills. Elk, Antelope, Mule Deer, Eagles, Mountain Lions, Bobcats and Turkeys.

Explore The Best Part Of The Black Hills: The southern Black Hills holds something for everyone and every taste. Nestled among the rolling hills are quaint towns offering shopping, dining, and tourist attractions that could easily fill your day with smiles. The area also hosts some of the country’s most beautiful parks and well-known monuments, all within a short and scenic drive from each other.

At the Founder's Cabin, you'll have thousands of acres to explore whether hiking or horseback riding across this historic property.

Everything about our stay was great! Communication with the host was great! Nina's food was great! seeing all the wildlife was amazing. Experiencing 50 elk come out of the hills and the buffalo were amazing highlight. It was very warm but yet the canyon breezes made it very comfortable. This is a great place to just completely relax! I will stay here again. I cant say enough about this southern Black Hills beauty. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us.

A cabin with every detail…decor, beds, landscaping, well equipped kitchen, outdoor kitchen, hot tub, wonderful deck. Also, plenty of supplies (towels, toilet paper, paper towels, foil, plastic wrap, containers, dishwasher soap, etc.). All those things you need to have the comforts of home and more! We loved the solitude and beauty of nature…canyon, Sky, birds, and trees!

The cabin and the view is beautiful but the 11 miles of gravel is a big drawback. If you’re going to stay at the cabin the whole time the gravel road isn’t bad but we went some where all three days we were there. We did see Buffalo and antelope.

Well equipped cabin on a scenic overlook/lovely acreage. This was our second stay. This time around things could have been a bit cleaner (looks like maybe someone sneaked in a pet? Not good for allergies.), but overall we enjoyed our stay and the surrounding area.

I had high expectations for our stay and it exceeded every one of them by far! The view is absolutely amazing and the cabin is immaculately kept. The only downside to choosing to stay here is that it will probably ruin future vacations for you because it will be hard to top it. We will definitely be back.

What an amazing cabin in a breathtaking setting. It was peaceful, secluded, had a great little kitchen stocked with everything we might need, and was beautifully decorated—it was so much fun to look at the art and the books and the lovely gardens! Lori, the host, could not have been nicer. Best of all were the views on every side and from every vantage point: spectacular. We ordered a Thai dinner one night from Nina and it was outstanding. All in all, an exceptional stay.

It is so quiet and away from it all. If you want something close to the state parks, this isn't for you as it takes 20+ minutes just to get back to the main road. But to us the drive was worth it because we were secluded in our own little haven with a beautiful view--you won't get this anywhere else. Hostess is so responsive and it literally could not have been better. We cooked most nights and the kitchen was very well stocked with the necessary tools.
