About this cabin rental
EaglePine- A retreat setting with a unique, fully equipped cedar cabin on 6 acres nestled in the woods of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Offering the ultimate in privacy with 600ft of sandy Long Lk, private peninsula, southern exposure, sunrises & sunsets, boats, fire pits, horseshoes, & bikes. Located well off the main road, tucked between 10 acre parcels assures safety & quietude. A path to the water (350 ft) meanders over boardwalks and soft mulch through a wildlife corridor leading to an outdoor living space offering shelter from the sun. A few steps farther is the lakeshore which is ideal for adults and children-- the sand is hard-packed & water shallow. The cottage is not bare-bones stripped of its character. We bring the "outdoors in" with deer mounts, moose antlers, pelts, & local artwork. The screened porch is perfect to read in a wicker chair, play cards at the table or just listen to the hummingbirds. We include other creature comforts such as comfy beds, modern appliances, WIFI, satellite, on-demand hot water, and a wood stove for cool summer evenings.
Our family and friends love EaglePine for it's privacy, quietude, peaceful lake, wildlife, and of course... Sleeping Bear Dunes which is a half mile away. However, we know civilization is literally around the corner with Frankfort and Honor 15-20 minutes away!

Beautiful cabin, incredible location and the owners have obviously put so much love and care into the property over the years. Can’t wait to go back.

Eagle pine is a wonderful, magical place. And this was my second time here, and it was even more wonderful than the first. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay at your home away from home.

Lovely space. Will return!

If you enjoy being in the woods and simple pleasures like sunsets, campfires, spotting wildlife, and relaxing under the night sky then you will love this property. We have rented many cabins in Northern Michigan, but this is the best, by far. To top it off, the hosts make the cabin feel like a familiar weekend home. We had friends come by to visit, and they could not stop raving about cozy and wonderful this cabin is. We hope to return again, and again. Five stars is not a high enough rating.

As previous reviews have already stated, this place is outstanding! One of the best vacation rentals we’ve come by! Highly recommend!

Great experience. Lovely spot.

Eagle Pine is spectacular! It was a wonderful place to take our three kids and stay while we explored Sleeping Bear and the surrounding areas. The toys Sue supplies were fantastic for all three of our different aged children. The kayaks were a blast for all of us even in the chill of fall. The property itself is magical being nestled in large trees and away from neighbors. The lake is gorgeous! We saw the bald eagle, a few black squirrels and a group of deer. Sue is a wonderful communicator and so knowledgeable about the local area. We would stay again in a heartbeat!

This cabin is paradise for those who enjoy the outdoors. The property is beautiful, and it's easy to see that it would be in any season. I'm not sure who enjoyed it more - the 4 adults in our party or our 2 dogs, who spent lots of time off leash romping through the tall grasses and splashing in the clear, shallow lake. The outdoor dog baths were convenient and appreciated. The entire rental process was simple, communication and directions perfect. The cabin was clean, cozy and comfortable. As others have said, our only regret was that we didn't book more days.

The property is absolutely stunning! Easy access to Sleeping Bear and the lakeshore, but so beautiful on its own that it was hard to leave to explore outside the property. Quiet mornings on the dock or the screened porch, listening to the call of birds; afternoons playing at the lake using all the provided toys/kayaks/paddle boards. Just lovely, couldn’t ask for a better spot to accommodate our very active, nature loving family!

This property provides a very unique opportunity to get away from it all in a very secluded setting both around the cabin and at the waterfront. Our college-age kids and their friends loved using the watercraft on a smaller lake that was not overpowering. The cabin itself has plenty of room for a group to spread out with open spaces, nice decks, and a screen room. It is very well appointed with everything you would need for the inside and outside activities. The property is right inside the south end of Sleeping Bear Dunes so all of the park activities were very convenient. The property is very dog friendly and we took full advantage of the dog shower every day.

We had a wonderful week at Eagle Pine cottage. The property was as advertised: secluded and wooded and the path to the beach was serene. The lakefront was sandy, shallow and warm. We enjoyed paddle boarding, kayaking and swimming every day. At night we had fires and s’mores at the cottage fire pit. The cottage itself was clean and cozy. The outdoor shower is also a perfect place to relax and rinse off before heading in for the night. We would definitely stay here again! Thank you, Susan!

What a treasure! This place was a dream come true. It was fun to hang out at the house, play games, do puzzles, walk down to the lake and use all the toys they have there. Our dog absolutely loved it. The outdoor dog and even human showers were so fun to have. The house was close to the sand dunes and Lake Michigan. But honestly if you didn't want to venture out, you didn't have to. I feel very blessed to be able to stay at this place. Or two boys, ages 12 and 14, Loved it too. They kept talking about wanting to move in!!! Couldn't recommend this place enough.

This property was wonderful! The cabin was cozy and welcoming. The windows overlooked a heavily wooded paradise. It was chilly, but we enjoyed every minute of being outside. Walking to the lake, watching the birds, even a bald eagle!! Just sitting and enjoying the scenery! The water was crystal clear and there was a small peninsula for the dog to run and play. It was quiet, peaceful and serene. I was able to see some of the fun water crafts for the summer guests. Paddle boards, a row boat, a canoe, kayaks. There was something to do everywhere at this location! We loved it and we hope to go back!

This is second time visiting the Elwell's wonderful place in the woods... we WILL be back!!

This place was the best! We hope to stay here again. The place really has all the amenities you would need and we loved that we were secluded from neighbors.

Gorgeous. quiet and secluded cabin. The pictures don’t do it justice. Private beach was beautiful as well. My family would definitely love to come back.

Beautiful property to unplug from life. Was very relaxing, cabin stocked , clean, and very attentive owner. Great location for several area trips and activities.

We just got home from our week at Eagle Pine and we miss it already…it’s a fantastic up north cottage with everything you’d ever want! We kayaked, canoed and paddle boarded, saw egrets, herons, sand hill cranes and a bald eagle! Beautiful property, great beach front, great up north cabin, fire pits, horseshoes…the works! Great place for families…lots to do in the area if you even want to leave the property. The Elwells were very easy to work with and very accomodating…no complaints other than we have to wait a year to go back!!

this is a wonderful cabin and the owners are super-accommodating people. it is private, it is a dog sanctuary - our children are grown, but young children would be entertained all day long. the birds are incredible and the property is centrally located for all the fun things to do in the area.

This was a wonderful getaway at a beautiful cabin on a secluded lake. Perfect for us and our two dogs (loved the pooch shower!). The property is filled with stuff to do like swings and horseshoes and the lake is shallow, sandy and good for swimming. The house was extremely clean and had everything we needed, including an awesome Weber grill to do steaks on. Traverse city was only a short drive away, and there were local places to eat as well. Port City Smokehouse has some of the best fried fish we have had!

Beautiful spot...peaceful and quiet. The cabin is cozy and the surroundings lovely. Close to so much recreation and fun!

Our family of 6 had a great experience! The owner has created an atmosphere that puts you at ease while staying in their home. They have gone above and beyond to make sure a guest has everything they need. Check-in and check-out instructions are easy and clearly defined. The location on the lake is perfection. There are so many park attractions close by as well. We could not have asked for a better experience!

Everything was great. It felt so relaxing. My kids loved all the swings outside and running through the woods and the toys inside. We all were sad to leave.

We had a great long weekend at eagle pine. Not sure who liked it more the humans or the dogs! The property was amazing with so much fun stuff to do. We enjoyed it all.The house was the perfect “up north” cabin. Kitchen was well stocked and kids loved all the extras. House was great for our dogs and I loved the baby gate in the laundry room so we could keep them contained when we left.We had a few minor issues and Sue was very responsive and easy to deal with. We would definitely book here again

We really enjoyed our week at this property. Everything was clean and the property itself was absolutely gorgeous. My husband and son enjoyed paddling around the lake while I reclined on the dock with our two dogs. The swings were a huge hit as well as the fire pit. We’ve had several people ask us for the listing after seeing our fun photos from our trip.

Very relaxing stay for it family. Enjoyed kayaking, nights around the campfire, and playing games inside. Great place for our family dog to vacation with us. Well stocked house with everything needed for our stay. Convenient to drive to many places in the are: river tubing, hiking and shopping. Something for every family member.

This property was heaven on earth. We spent a lovely week at Eagle Pine with my 2 and 3 year old and my in-laws. We were very excited to get away from the city and Eagle Pine did not disappoint. Susan thought of everything! There were more toys, books, and movies (both for the kids and the adults) to keep us busy for well over a week. The property is absolutely stunning and very secluded, which we really enjoyed. We had a wonderful time swimming in the beautiful lake (which is warm, crystal clear, and all sand - no rocks), boating on the canoes and kayaks, sitting around the outdoor fire pit, hiking the very nearby trails and going into Frankfort. We kept saying it over and over again all week, "this is such a special place". We will be making a point to return as often as we can. Susan, thank you for sharing your wonderful cabin with us. It was a trip we will always remember and think back on fondley.

We had an amazing stay at this cabin. The location was perfect, off the beaten path on a large parcel, so that we felt secluded and could enjoy the forest and the lake, but a quick drive to Sleeping Bear Dunes and other attractions. The cabin was extremely clean and comfortable, and the amenities were fantastic. We had a great time kayaking and fishing on Long Lake, watching the bald eagles at the end of the lake, and relaxing on the screened porch. We used this trip as a mini-honeymoon after postponing our full wedding celebration due to COVID, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to relax, unwind, and celebrate our new marriage.

My family had a fantastic stay at Eagle Pine in June. The cabin is charmingly decorated in North Woods style and the appliances (washer, dryer, dish washer) are all up-to-date. Everything was very neat and clean. There was a lot to do in the cabin, plenty of books, board games and puzzles and there were flat screen TVs with an extraordinary collection of movies on DVD. The woodsy lot is big and the lake access is terrific, with a sandy swimming area with a floating dock that is great for kids. We enjoyed taking out the kayaks and the paddle board. My youngest son caught his first fish! We saw loons and cranes in the lake and deer in the woods. The hummingbirds by the cabin entertained us too. We made campfires and cooked hot dogs and Smores. The cottage and the lake were absolute heaven for our golden retriever, and we appreciated the convenience of the dog washing station near the front door. The location of the cabin is good for exploring the area. It's not far to Lake Michigan and right outside Sleeping Bear Dunes. The owners were attentive, helpful and very responsive. Can't think of anything to make it better (other than maybe Wi-fi... our kids had a little trouble dealing without that for a week)! We hope to stay at Eagle Pine again!

This house is clearly a truly beloved family cabin of the owner's. You can see that they have used it, loved it and taken wonderful care of it for many years. Everything you could need on your vacation is here. It is clean. The beds are comfortable. There is a full kitchen. The living area is comfortable...and STOCKED! There are so many videos, games, and little niceties that I have never seen in other vrbo locations. (Ex.
There is a real treasure box for your little ones to find and marvel at. This was our favorite moment. )
This place is a little kid and dog Heaven! Our golden retriever swam out to the middle of the lake. I felt comfortable with our 6 year old learning how to use a paddle board on her own.
It's shallow and sandy. Nature, and QUIET, abounds. It's perfect for them and was perfect for our family to reconnect. We all loved the lake and using the kayaks and paddle boards.
We were also pleasantly surprised with the location. There is a wonderful restaurant just down the street. You are 10 minutes from a fantastic beach, Point Betsie, known for its beautiful lighthouse and rock collecting (our hightlight of the vacation). Also try the fantastic new restaurant on Crystal Lake, The Rock's Landing. You're close to Frankfurt. Everything was wonderful.
I would whole-heartedly recommend renting this house and the landlord of the place. Wonderful. My only word of warning is to bring a lot of bug spray. Soooo many mosquitos...outside only. The house was perfectly cosy on the inside. This is also an all season place. Absolutely PERFECT for the autumn. I can't imagine a better place.
Thank you for renting to us. We loved our vacation here. A real privilege.

We loved the location of Eagle Pine. Our kids woke up every morning and took the dog outside to play. They would build obstacle courses, lean-to's, swing on the super fun swing set-up, and explore. We thoroughly enjoyed our time relaxing in the cabin, walking down to the lake and exploring nearby trails and towns.

Loved our stay at Eagle Pine.
From the solitude and peacefulness of the property...to the charming interior of the cabin.
Our party enjoyed the cabin immensely.
Susan was very thoughtful and kind.

This home is huge and can fit a lot more people than just the theee of us that stayed, but it was nice to have so much room and not be tripping over each other. The home is nice but the shower upstairs is small for someone who is taller than 6 feet so two of the three of us shared the downstairs shower. Unfortunately it rained for most of our visit so we weren’t able to use the fire pits and lakeside area like we were hoping to, but hopefully we can try it again and have better weather. The owners were very responsive and easy to work with. I would recommend this house to others and would enjoy staying there again myself if we have the opportunity.

Beautiful modern cabin set In the woods with a walking path to a small lake. You can’t see your neighbors, which is unheard of Up North. The cabin is on the southern edge of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. That means plenty of outdoor activities are close by. We went hiking and mountain biking in the park and kayaked on the lake. Very comfortable for a family or as a couples retreat. We highly recommend this property and are making plans to go back.

We absolutely loved our stay. I almost don't want to give too great of a review in the hopes of keeping this gem a secret from the world! We had 4 humans and one pup in the house with room to spare. Our dog LOVED the beach and we loved the dog wash right outside the front door! We cooked all of our meals in the kitchen and only left for lunch one day in Traverse City. We had hoped for more time around the fire on our chilly weekend but unfortunately we had some rainy evenings. Not to worry, there was an entire library of movies to choose from when we had to move indoors. Susan was an amazing host and only a text away if we had any questions. We will absolutely come back.

Our stay at Eagle Pine was just what we wanted. The property is beautiful. We enjoyed the little walk to the lake and all the toys provided; kayaks, paddle board, canoe, row boat. Eagle pine is well stocked with toys of all kinds for the young and not as young. It is secluded which we love. There is no wifi but we got used to it. Used our hotspot when we needed to and otherwise stayed unplugged. We both read a book from the Elwell's library. Our dog was in heaven. She ran and swam yet figured out the property fast as to how much she could wander. We were impressed. The feeling of family warmth and love permeates Eagle Pine and I hope to be back again.

Had a wonderful time away from the city, had a chance to see some of the wildlife and dogs enjoyed the playtime in the lake and exploring new smells.
Owners very responsive in all questions we had during our vacations.

EaglePine was a fantastic cabin with lots for the kids and parents to do both on-site and in the area. Our only disappointments were that not all the beds had sheets and no wifi.
