Nell’s Cottage is in a perfect location for solitude overlooking hills and a lake. Animals from a nearby small holding are friendly. The property is cosy with a log burner, the galley kitchen is well-appointed with washing machine and dishwasher if required.
Although overlooking a train line, it’s easy to forget it’s there as the noise is barely perceptible from the pushmepullyou trains.
Not much to dislike at all. There is poor phone reception which is not at all a fault of the property. The wifi is adequate but don’t expect to stream a film. To be honest, if you are staying in to watch a film you’re in the wrong place!

One of the most amazing places ever! Away from the world, peace and quiet. By the end of the week you feel like a new you, completely washed off the stress of life. The private garden was a bliss! We had that to ourselves. Sitting there, you see green hills, the lake, trees, birds, squirrels, rabbits, and of course cattle, sheep, horses, and goats outside the hedge. The cottage itself is a piece of history but with all the modern necessities. Comfortable bed + complete quiet at night = the best sleep ever!
Joan and Jim are lovely hosts. Joan went out of her way to give us a lift and we enjoyed Jim's company. You can do so much from this place! We didn't have a car (it's best if you have one, but coming from outside the UK, we're not used to driving on the other side of the road!). But we love walking & hiking so the 35 min walk to Dalton to take the bus or train to all the great places was something we actually enjoyed. It keeps you in your calm retreat while all the area attractions are a 35 min walk away. In case you're too tired to walk home after a long day anywhere you can always go down in Barrow and take a taxi for around £12. We recommend coastal cars which was reliable. We miss Nell's cottage already!

It’s a lovely cottage attached to the owners home down a lane and up overlooking a Lake. the bed is 2 pulled together and is massive. they have all the amenities you need.
The only thing we didn’t like is that apart from a log burner, everything is electric and will cost you extra (on top of the rental fee) if you want to stay warm. we managed to use the hot water bottles for the bed but once the cold really kicks in, be ready with your wallet.
