i had understood that ever ryokan stay comes with dinner and breakfast - I was very disappointed that apparently had not booked it - was not clear on booking.com when I booked it:(

Beautiful traditional hotel with amazingly friendly staff

Great location but worn Ryokan. Breakfast was excellent though and the service staff was very polite and helpful.
There was some sort of black mold in the ceiling of the general bath facility. It needed renovation. In retrospect it was not worth the money we paid for the two nights.

The breakfast was great!
The room was insanely hot. And the dining room where we had breakfast was ridiculously hot. Hard to enjoy my food when I am drenched in sweat.
3.5 / 5.0
Location was great, the room was a bit aged but clean and tidy as expected.
Staff was nice and helpful.
The Futon can be thicker for extra comfort and no curtain so the sunlight will goes directly into every corner of the room from 6am.

Good location, convenient
Air condition in room is not cold enough, still have old A/C from 80’s

The place is right next to gion, the geisha district so you can walk to it within 6 minutes. The beds are comfortable and the room is clean. The place is aesthetically pleasing.
This is NOT the ryokan experience. They do not include any kind of meals. If you want to have the ryokan experience and be served dinner in your room, you have to tell them 7 days in advance AND pay extra. The price of this ryokan is high enough that it SHOULD include meals. Even when I expressed the desire to pay for the meal (4 days in advance), they still wouldn’t serve me dinner in my room. I figured for the price of the hotel, you would get to enjoy the full experience. The public onsen is so tiny, nobody ever used it. It’s only the bath- no steam room, sauna, or hot/cold pools. Besides the location, this ryokan is NOT worth the money.

Staff was exceptional. Went above and beyond to make you feel welcomed.
A couple of larger sized slippers for my tall folks. My son is 200 cm.

it’s relatively pricy vs modern hotels.

The Kaiseki was good. The staff was sweet and helped accommodate one of our friends who had allergies to certain foods.
The facility was clean.
The indoor public bath was a little small.

4.5 / 5.0
The quality of the food, hospitality of the staff, interior decorations of the room and the location of the ryokan were some of the features that we liked.
The latest breakfast was at 8.30, which was quite early for us. There was no coffee in the room. Other than that everything was great.

Ideal location for visiting Kyoto. Easy access from Kyoto station (10min cab drive) and walking distance to several temples and the Gion and Higashiyama old districts. Staff was very helpful and spoke good English. Rooms in traditional Japanese style (with tatamis and futons) were spacious and comfortable. We had the traditional Japanese breakfast they serve in the room and it was very good. They have a small onsen and it was good to be able to enjoy that at the end of the day too. Excellent stay overall.

Very nice tatami rooms and Japanese breakfast

Location was very convenient. Close to Gion and Hanamikoji Street. Walked to old streets Ninenzaka, Sannenzaka leading to Kiyomizu dera Temple. Service was superb. Enjoyed the kaiseki dinner and breakfast.
We were looking forward to a traditional property in a
rustic setting but ryokan turned out to be a 4-storey building with 14 rooms!
4.8 / 5.0
This small hotel was a great combination of traditional Japanese accommodation with some modern conveniences (private bathroom and toilet, TV, air conditioning etc.)
The staff were so helpful at check-in and that continued throughout our stay.
The traditional Japanese room was really spacious and comfortable for three of us. Each morning staff cleared away our traditional bedding and laid out the breakfast which was absolutely fabulous. We would highly recommend the Japanese breakfast - what a great way to start the day.
The Tatami beds were really comfortable.
We chose to have the Kyo-kaiseki dinner on our last night (pre-booked before our arrival). That was a wonderful way to celebrate our stay, with nine courses of truly delicious food. It was quite expensive but really worth it for this gourmet meal.
The location was so good, we just walked to everywhere around the Gion district.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Ryokan Kinoe to anyone.
There wasn't anything that I didn't like but the adherence to some strict rules like using the provided slippers when entering the Ryokan but taking them off in your room is a learning experience for non-Japanese :-)
