Very close to landmarks and sites we wanted to visit! Rooms were beautiful and spacious. We love the breakfast too, it was delicious and the portions were just right!
Some of the light fixtures had cobwebs in them, and the beams are a little dusty, you can see it when you’re lying on bed and looking up.

very authentic. very attentive staff
a little dated, rooms were very small (although I think this is part of the authenticity)

The hotel is located in the amazing Gion district
The food prepared by the chef in front of you was delicious
The bathroom is amazing very luxurious
The entrance close at midnight which is a bit annoying

It’s an amazing place to stay. so beautiful and so traditional. I had an amazing night there.
The restaurant was closed the day I stayed.

Everything was wonderful, the location, the room, the meals...my son is still talking about it. It was the highlight of our trip.
There is nothing I didn't like.

The property was stunning, so quiet, so peaceful… The staff was adorable. We loved our stay and enjoyed the cedar bathtub after a long hike which was perfect to relax.
It’s a bit on the pricey side.

the location is great - very close to everything .
the room was very small and expensive for what we got .

Service was incredible, we arrived on a rainy day and the staff wiped down our suitcases for us and they were always there to attend to our needs.

Everything. The whole experience was excellent from start to finish.

Homey feeling. Staff and chef were exceptionally nice. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. The location is the best of all. Just mere minutes from Kodai-ji. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good ryokan in Kyoto.
Not much. Perhaps just the sound of walking or loud laughter which resonates in the old building.

the bed was very comfortable; the dinner delicious

Our stay here was peak comfort and enjoyment. The hotel is located really close to the Yasaka shrine and the Kiyomizudera Temple, and is a short walk away from Ginza. Although it's a bit further out from the train station, staying in these old buildings was really charming. We had the half board for two nights and it was superb - the food was amazing and they made extra effort to make sure our menu was different on both days. We also really enjoyed the library lounge area. Everything about the room was brilliant!
Only thing to note is that if you choose the room downstairs, you'll suffer if there are guests upstairs as it's a traditional ryokan with very thin ceiling/floors. We were woken up several times by the guests upstairs unfortunately, but this is definitely not the fault of the owners.

A taste of old Japan. Great location next to the old streets of Kyoto. The food was extraordinary…like pieces of art.
While the food was amazing, for Western children it’s not ideal. It is certainly wasted on Western children as they won’t appreciate it. Would make more sense if they offered a Western style meal option for children.

The ryokan was very beautiful. It had all the right modern amenities without making it feel out of place in the traditional setting. The kaiseki dinner was delicious, and the staff was amazingly friendly.
Nothing. I loved this place.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was extremely cozy and quiet. We stayed in the "Byakugun" room - a double room. FYI, there were no guest rooms above us or next door, so it was completely quiet. The bath was lovely and the bed comfortable. We were even treated to TWO free bottles of beer in the mini bar (Wow!) There was a kettle and free coffee/tea provisions in the room as well as a few free nibbles. There was also a lounge near our room where we could get coffee and make macha (green tea) and play some board games. The location was excellent: a quiet area, but just a five minute (uphill) walk from Kiyomizu temple. The dinner, which was included in our plan, was outstanding. We asked for the additional steak dish (for an extra price) it was well worth it, but we were a bit stuffed by the end of our meal!! Breakfast the next morning was equally delicious and a perfect amount, i.e. not too much after our previous night's banquet!! We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this place as part of a Kyoto trip.
The only, only, only, thing was that the two arm chairs in the room, were not incredibly comfortable. They were perfectly adequate, but not the kind of armchairs you can fling yourself in to and relax. Now in our fifties, comfort is becoming increasingly important LOL.

Chef was amazing. Every meal outstanding.

Staff and hotel chef were fantastic. Room was large and completely comfortable. Great mix between old world Japan and modern luxury. Many personal touches. Cuisine provided for dinner ( and surprisingly breakfast), was Michelin star quality.

We loved everything about this stay - service, room, location, food - one of the best places we have ever stayed at. LOVED IT!
