House beautiful but felt as tho you were in a kids camp, bar closed at 9pm
Location beautiful

Loved the property itself. The breakfast was excellent albeit a tad cool. Host was very welcoming and accommodating
The rooms in the Cherwell block are very dated & smelled musty. Definitely in need of a refurb.

You will need a car as there is no on site meal facilities. It is situated on the edge of a small village. There are good restaurants within 3 to 5 miles, recommended by the host. The room was clean, limited TV stations in the evening. Breakfast is available if booked in advance but we chose to eat elsewhere. Saw deer in grounds in early evening. There is a post office and small shop in the village but didn't see it until our last day so no idea of what is has in stock.

beautiful location and excellent grounds!
There was no mirror in the bedroom so getting ready was very tricky and they couldn’t do a hot breakfast as there was no chef (was told this upon checkin) however the price was the same (£10) which we thought was a lot for cereal and toast.

This was in a beautiful setting. The grounds were so beautiful.
There was black mold in the shower. We were not in the main house but in a "cottage" way at the end of the grounds.
3.8
outside location was pretty
Looked and felt like a boarding school housing block
3.8
Bed was comfortable
Dont think housekeeping had completed the room.
No remote control
Have 2 cups only one saucer
Toilet didnt flush
Cobwebs in room

Breakfast was average, however a selection of fresh fruit and some yoghurt would've been an advantage for those that don't like a heavy meal.
The bathroom needs updating, a little tired. The room doors are very noisy on an evening and the view from the bedroom window was no existent, just a bush!
3.8
The location was superb being set in 20 acres of landscaped grounds and with a lake in front of the property. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The self-service breakfast was very good and set us up for the day.
The standard room was quite small but perfectly comfortable and reflected the price fairly. It was a pity that the bar closed at 7 p.m. as a late evening drink on the terrace would have been nice.

nice quiet location, good £10 breakfast, superior rooms good size, nice walk round lake
bathrooms need updating, no chef so no lunch or dinner available in restaurant, had to drive out to Deddington Arms and Cinnamon stick to eat. Grounds could have more things to do there.

The location was stunning
It was just filthy!! Floors were stained 🤢 a bug in the bed! Very dated and poorly furnished rooms! My sons student accommodation is better and thats saying something! Just needs money ploughing into the place… so much potential
3.8
brilliant location and dog friendly
no bar to enjoy the fab location
3.8
Lovely setting, well kept, functional. Everything I needed in the bedroom (including an extra blanket) and no more.
3.8
The Setting was lovely and the breakfast was very good.
3.8
The main house and grounds are lovely
The room was very basic almost like student halls of residence
3.8
The people working were lovely, the breakfast also, and the outside of the hôtel. the bed was confortable
the room did not smell very good and lacked of decoration

Location and setting were wonderful.
We only really met one person when we arrived. He was fine.
Parking was easy.
Shower was powerful.
The bed was very small for a double, it was very hard as were the pillows. It felt like a single room as one side had a bed side table, the other side was a wardrobe. Plug sockets and lights on only one side of the bed. It felt like a conference facility room where it would be ideal for one person
3.8
Breakfast very good
Disappointed not to be staying in main building not made clear at time of booking
3.8
Lovely place but unfortunately rooms need a refurb
3.8
Staff lovely.
Pembroke was a bit smelly- might have been the drains? Also the tv in room 15 turned on randomly- waking me up at 715 on Sunday!

The grrounds
Everything, rooms old, dusty and small. Bathroom dated, no bath mat, slippy and dangerous. Breakfast very basic and cold. Asked for a poached egg, the answer was no. Bar closed at9pm. Bad service.

The house itself was beautiful and the grounds were lovely.
Charlotte was amazing to us she booked our taxis on the evening and arranged for them to collect us on the evening.
The house was stuck in the middle of nowhere. There was no mention on the internet that there was no evening meals available, we found out on in our arrival day.
Had to get a taxi to the nearest pub, spent more on taxis than food.
There was no mobile reception and the WiFi was terrible.
3.8
A very nice setting, ease of access to what we were doing. Beautiful lake and nice breakfast.
Good to have 2 nice chairs in the bedroom.
No other guests. Lacked ambience. No evening meal options.
No selection at breakfast other than cooked.
No handrails for bath/shower.

The whole w/e was great. exceptional setting, grounds, peace & quiet.
Great breakfast & value for money, polite & friendly staff.
We struggled with a regular double bed with current temperatures, especially as we're used to a super king size at home.

how the rooms for pets are not very nice compared to others

Lovely location. Quiet for the most part.
Beautiful surroundings
Friendly staff
Didn’t offer much choice for non cooked breakfast. £10
for toast and cereal is a lot!

very lovely property, very comfortable
had trouble booking taxi from Charlbury train station to accomodation as area is not a common route - many taxi companies turned us down as there were not any taxis in either area. advise to prebook taxi for this route.

Location is really amazing, local pub about a 25 min walk through a village, really lovely trails from the hotel in surrounding areas and along the canal for a couple of hours walk, staff were all amazing, location really lovely on the evening
Hotel rooms are very basic and evidently haven’t been updated for a while although the pictures do show that. Rooms are actually in our house buildings slightly away from the main building. Walls are very thin

Really warm and friendly staff who were very attentive to us but also very relaxed about having us stay in the breakfast area a little longer, or spending time outside the bar.
Inside the main hotel the temperature was lovely and cool.
There was a very tasty and extensive breakfast with veggie options and dairy alternatives to milk.
The chilled water coolers were a godsend on a very hot weekend.
The view of the beautiful lake and landscaped gardens was a bonus.
The standard room was clean and very comfortable.
The bathroom was stocked with lovely big fluffy towels as well as shampoo and bath gel if you needed it.
It was another bonus to have a vintage motorbike event on the same weekend - nice guests, excellent bikes to browse!
The negatives are very minor here. The stay was over a tremendously hot weekend and the room could have done with a couple of fans in. The downstairs hallway was air conditioned, but the first floor got a bit warm as the sun cooked it through the day. We had foresight and brought our own!
We put the 'Please Do Not Make Our Room Up' hanger on the door on two days but it was still made up - we had mainly done this so we could keep the curtains shut in the room to keep the sun out and the room cool, and to keep the setting on the shower that was the perfect temperature. When we returned from our work at Cropredy Festival in the evenings, the curtains were open and the room was baking hot.
After the shower had been cleaned on Friday, the shower head was left pointing to the right, so when I turned the shower on the next morning I, and the bathroom floor, got a quick soaking, which was a surprise.
As I said, the negatives are very minor and it in no way spoiled our stay.
