The hotel is in the centre of a small village in the mountains outside Ronda. From the roof there are great views. The owners were very helpful and friendly. The rooms are comfortable and adequate with coffee maker and fridge. Breakfast was good. We did not eat dinner but other visitors seemed satisfied with the food.
Call and ask for the correct the SatNav advice before entering the village. We used the hotel address for our SatNav and became trapped in the warren of narrow streets. There is limited parking so it is worth checking this also.

Stunning location, lovely and helpful owners, and a great meal and breakfast.
Nothing comes to mind.

Cartajema is a tiny white village amongst the chestnut trees in a valley outside of Ronda. It is down a narrow curvy road. Once you arrive you will have to drive tiny narrow streets to the hotel but the town is so small you will not hit other traffic. But squeezing into the parking area was not for the faint of heart. It is the only hotel in the town and you visit for the views. It was dead quiet and had lovely views of the surrounding valley and other villages in the distance.

Amazing family run hotel in the remote authentic village

Breakfast was fantastic and the location of this hotel makes it one of the best places on the planet. Big bonas is having no TV in the bedrooms and eating a no menu dinner with the other guests. If something is not right Frank will make it ok. Paco's bar next door is a spanish jem not to be missed. First class spot.

Welcoming and friendly host. Lovely comfortable room with access to roof terrace and honesty bar. Home cooked dinner available.
Parking in small Spanish town can be a challenge but not insurmountable.

An absolutely amazing stay. My boyfriend and I travel a lot and this little slice of paradise stole our hearts. The perfect romantic get away for us! Di and John just made our stay that much better. Hearing their stories and eating their home cooked dinner was the cherry on top. As someone who has seen most of the Andalusia region, there is truly something unique about this village in the mountains. And a quick tip! bring some cash to buy post cards from Di, she donates the proceeds to a friend in Uganda that offers free medical service to woman.

The hosts made the stay. Yes, the property is as charming as it looks. In fact, the pictures can't do the panorama view off the deck justice. From the rolling hills, to the white villages in the distance, to the church tower next door, the views were stunning. Yes, the rooms were large, comfy and charming with every window looking out to a picturesque Spanish dream. The food was the best we had on our two-week trip around Andalusia. But what made our trip was the charming hosts that spent time with us sharing stories of their lives and the surrounding area. They took interest in our kids and our lives and made us feel truly at home.
Our only regret is that we did't stay longer.

We stayed in Hotel Los Castanos for a weekend and we left with the promise to come back as soon as we can. This place, hidden in a quiet small village in the mountains south of Ronda, is pure therapy for the soul and a delight for all senses. The views are spectacular, the house is a beautiful cozy jewel, the rooms are clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated, the village is peaceful and the people are friendly. But it’s the hosts that are bringing the experience to perfection. Both Di and John are the most friendly and warm people - we couldn’t ask for more. The dinner Di prepared for us was, by far, the best we had in any of the places we have stayed. The taste, presentation and attention to detail were remarkable.
The evening we spent on the roof top terrace, with a glass of good house wine, was a deep dive in peace and relaxation. Even the cat Lyla, who joined us, was so cute, friendly and talkative 😊
The entire experience was unforgettable. Thank you Di and John, we highly appreciated your perfect hosts skills and we plan to return soon to recharge our batteries.

Well....I have stayed in a lot of places but I have to rate this as a 10. Di and John are most charming hosts and Di is a fabulous cook. The hotel is charming with perfection in design and materials just everywhere you look. The village is perfect too.
Everything at this superb oasis was just perfect

Di and John are friendly, welcoming and run a beautiful bread and breakfast, (though they call Los Castanos a hotel.)The rooms are spacious and well-appointed with bedside reading lights, arm chairs, slippers, robes, small balconies, great pillows, comfortable beds, blow dryers, coffee and a heated towel warmer. The body oil and soap were lovely.
There is a roof top terrace with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The living room has books and games and it feels like you are in the beautiful home of a friend.
Breakfast is included and was great- fresh fruit, bread, jam, honey, ham, cheese, eggs on request, fresh squeezed OJ and yogurt. Di cooked dinner for us twice- 4 course meals that were the best we had in Spain. Although she calls herself a cook and not a chef, she has impressive kitchen skills and we were delighted with the dinners.
The road to Los Castanos is not for the faint of heart; hairpin turns up the mountain and upon arrival, narrow streets. Di made reservations for us for the cave (so cool) and John was kind enough to park our car near the hotel entry the night before we left so we didn’t have to negotiate the narrow passage when we left in the dark, early morning hour.
You can help yourself to a fully stocked bar, and it will be added to your tab. We picked up a bottle of wine in Ronda and were a bit surprised to see a corkage fee of 5 euros on our hotel bill. Corkscrews were in each guest room, so we could have opened the bottle ourselves had we known there would be a fee. No big deal- just thought I could save the reader 5e!
I recommend this hotel.
Both Di and John are interesting people, both speak English (John is from the U.K., Di is American-Brit) and we enjoyed the stay. The beautiful home is filled with art, antique doors and local pottery and offers small items for sale to guests.
The only things that were a slight turn off were the 5euro corkage fee and we asked if we could do a load of laundry (my son and daughter in law had another week of traveling) and the cost was 30euro - of course they didn’t have it done!
