About this house rental
"Gurgle and Whump" - named for the two blowholes or "boiling holes" in the rock beside the sea - is a charming, airy two-bedroom house right on the shore of the Caribbean side of Eleuthera. Light, bright furniture and several large glass sliding doors give you the feeling of being out in the sea and sky even indoors. The sliding doors of one bedroom look straight out to the sea, the sliding doors of the other look out to the sea through the garden's palm trees. Both bedrooms have AC.
A large shade sail protects the patio, and a second patio with umbrella is located beside the steps cut through the rock for access to the sea with its excellent snorkeling - expect to see groupers, yellowtails, blue tangs, and schools of juvenile fish.
The house is on a quiet side street, but walking distance to the Big Rock grocery store, restaurant and bar. Just north of James Cistern, and within easy reach of Governor's Harbour, its airport and dozens of empty beaches.
The kitchen features a stove-top gas cooker, microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher. (The kitchen has a range and microwave but not an oven.)
Amenities include AC in the bedrooms, washer/dryer, WiFi, Roku TV, DVDs, board games, books, beach chairs, and a gas grill.

We had a lovely stay! The view was beautiful. So close to Rainbow beach which we loved. The host was very responsive and helpful! We had a few days calm enough to swim and snorkel out front where we saw a couple small rays, a barracuda, and other fish. The place provided beach chairs, towels, a cooler, and floats which we used daily. Things I wish were provided would be a beach umbrella, better and more utensils, pots and pans for cooking. Luckily there was a nice cast iron to pan sear fresh fish in! I would definitely stay again but not in the summer as there is only air conditioning in the bedrooms so we didn’t get to enjoy the full house like I would have liked. Eleuthera is an amazing place full of warm and welcoming people. I can’t wait to return.

From the booking to the Entrance to the home it was so easy!Communications with the owner was instantaneous. The accommodations were perfect for our needs. The kitchen was well appointed and the washer and dryer were such a bonus for us so we did not have to pack as much for 2 weeks. This was a lifesaver.The view from the back porch was stunning as well as the access to the Caribbean so easy with the steps. Everything you needed for the beach was available. Chairs, towels, floats, snorkel equipment was all in working order and we used. Fresh water 5 gallons was provided to start our vacation. Convenience to grocery and restaurants was a plus as well. The air conditioning in the bedrooms was welcomed. We would have liked the entire house to be Air conditioned but made due with what we had. It was clean and neat and owners provided a clean set of linens after we were there for 1 week.Highly recommend this property. You will not regret it. The neighborhood is very quiet.The location in Central Eleuthera is perfect for day trips to the North and south. The wifi worked so we were able to use our phones. But we did not watch any TV. We were not able to get it to work. I am sure it was user error!This was truly a find for us!

This was a beautiful location. The house was clean and had everything we needed for a great vacation in the Bahamas. We did sadly have poor water pressure for the first three days that resulted in not being able to run the dishwasher, do laundry or take showers effectively. They did come and repair the pump and we gained enough to then perform those tasks. On the last day the power went out right when we were trying to finish up our laundry and the dishwasher was halfway through. We found out later that it was a scheduled outage for the central part of the island. It would have been really helpful to know that was coming so we could have prepared. Leaving for a plane ride home with wet laundry was not fun!

The house worked, it does need to be updated. But it was clean and good kitchen cookware and utensils. They do need to replace gas grill. The home is right on the ocean which is very nice. Centrally located on island and lots of privacy.

The property location is great for getting North or South. The home was clean. Bed and bedding was great! Views are phenomenal! It changes from day to day. Getting in and out of the water via the steps on a calm day, high tide is very easy. We are 60 and had no problem-highly recommend getting in! We found there was most everything we could want. Plenty of towels, dishes, silverware, etc. Maybe more lighting for power outages and a scissors.

It was great to be right on the water for every sunset. We snorkled in the backyard, it was so nice to be home after getting out of the water and be able to take a hot shower! We had a great time and were sad to leave! We would stay here again!

I really enjoyed my stay! The house had everything I needed. The owners have provided a lot of extras such as coolers, snorkel gear, rafts, towels, books,games,etc. the kitchen had everything needed. The beds were comfortable. The living area is good size. The view is incredible! Great snorkeling and fishing in front of the house. The location is also good-close to a grocery store and centrally located near very nice beaches. I hope to come back to Eleuthera and stay in this house!

The view of the water is unbeatable! Our favorite part was sitting on the porch with a book in hand, listening to the water. There are windows and new sliding glass doors surrounding the living and dining room to maximize the view. The size of the home was perfect for our needs. While we did not use the kitchen much, it appeared to be well-stocked. The bedrooms have air-conditioning units that cool the rooms nicely. The house offers a great location, with many surrounding beaches. We spent a lot of time at Rainbow Beach, just down the road. It's a stunning beach, and we often had it to ourselves. It is an easy drive to other settlements on the island (and easy to get a rental car). The owners were very accommodating and provided great recommendations that enhanced our stay. We will certainly be back! Until next time, Eleuthera!

The house rental itself nice and was situated in a beautiful location. The bed and the house furniture were very comfortable and clean. The kitchen was well stocked for anything you want to do. The rental included some beach items which were quite nice to have (chairs, cooler, umbrella). The WiFi was good and worked well. We did not turn the TV on as we had a picture perfect view out the window. The air conditioners were some of the most quiet we have ever had in a hotel or vacation rental.The rental did have a water issue on our first day and a half where the water would only turn on for 15 seconds then turn off by itself. We tried to contact the owners with very little response, then the other contact people. It seemed the only people concerned were the Eleuthera Vacation Rentals. When fixed the water worked well. The shower faucet handle also fell off the first time we turned it so we used pliers to turn the water on and off till I located an Allen /key to re-attach the handle.Other than those issues we enjoyed the rental and all its amenities.

Keep your expectations in check. An older property in need of repairs and facelift. Liked Rainbow Bay very much. Beautiful view. Very good communication with local caretaker/ owner?. Will try another property next visit.

The location was perfect. Not too far from ELH, plenty of things to do within a short drive. View is unparalleled, though the sourhern exposure offers no shade at this time of year because the sun is lower than the deck cover (just FYI) Owners were very responsive and lovely. Kitchen had all the equipment we needed for basic meals. Roku TV allowed us access to Netflix to watch a movie one night. Plenty of linens, bed was firm and comfortable.
From shore we loved watching the jellyfish float by and the fish swimming and jumping. Even some dolphins passed in the distance. We opened coconuts from the yard and owners left fresh cut flowers that lasted all week and a list of things to do. Good library, bug spray, sunscreen and sunglasses, if you forget. The only thing i might have liked were chairs for the beach/shoreline patio, but that didn't take away from out perfect stay! So relaxing! Side note, next time I would bring non-perishable food items that I might want. Groceries selections are very limited and can be pricey. Restaurants are as well, I'm sure, for the same reason.

I must say that this home was perfectly located to get to both north and south of island with ease, and with the most tranquil views and privacy.This home is well equipped for all of a vacationers needs with extras!! I thoroughly enjoyed my two weeks at Gurgle and Whump, and will be back again soon!A few mentions worth highlighting: The owners are fantastic not only in their responsiveness but attention to detail. Their home is well equipped, but what I found most appealing is that this is not your average rental, the caretaker and owners, treat you as a guest in their home, ensuring your arrival and departure are most welcoming! The views out of our bedroom and the living room were amazing ! If you don't want to lounge around the house watching the ocean Rainbow Bay is close by with a nice sheltered beach and excellent snorkeling.
Points to the north and south are easy to reach too. The grocery store is basically right on the other side of Queen's highway. We got food from Mel's and the excellent rum cake from Cravings bakery both in James Cistern.
The house has plenty of bug spray and baby oil if noseeums are out, but the ocean breeze on the ocean deck kept them away for the most part.
We were sad to leave Eleuthera and our house on the ocean at the end of our visit.

Upon arrival, the owners happened to be there finishing up with putting together a new outdoor gas grill, which was broken in well during our stay, with our fresh fish daily! Robin and Eliza were a delight, Robin being a native from Eleuthera born and raised and Eliza a free spirit with an engaging personality! It was a welcomed introduction into island lifestyle after a very hectic trip due to problems with COVID testing and arriving a day late!

Rainbow beach get a way
We loved gurgle and wump! While we were there, Eleuthera had unusual high winds so it was windy there, positive side of that is there were no bugs or flys! We were still able to eat our meals out on the deck. The view took my breath away . We did not swim off the pier because the water was too choppy. Rainbow 🌈 beach was a slice of heaven. Nice snorkeling, very secluded and away from the wind. The water was very calm.
The home was “home” for us, dishes, silverware were high end and not cheap, I felt like I was at home. Brand new washer and dryer, again high end quality, beds were very comfortable. Beautiful walk in shower as well. The only issue we had was the outdoor grill and the owner is getting a new one. And was quick to come over to check it out and get it working for us. Would I return to Gurgle and Wump? In a heartbeat! Robin we will be returning, thank you for opening your home to us.

Charming Beach Home with 5 Star Views
So many wonderful things to say about Gurgle and Whump! This super charming beach home provided so much; a great location, beach chairs/snorkeling gear, cooking supplies, bug repellents and more. We snorkeled right in front of the house and saw so many different kinds of fish, coral and starfish! The house is a little weathered from the sea but overall it is wonderful and made us feel safe and right at home. The hosts are fantastic at helping with any questions you may have and getting back to you right away. I can tell they pour a lot of love into this. My husband and I highly recommend Gurgle and Whump for your next Eleuthera stay!

This property is set at a beautiful location. There is some privacy as the neighbors are at a distance (not 100%). We sat by the steps leading into the Carribean sea multiple times and enjoyed watching the waves. In December, we could see the sunrise and the sunset from inside the house. The location of this house, proximity to many beaches, and the view was top notch.
One of the biggest bummers of our trip was sand flies or nooseums. Beware of these tiny bugs that can leave you itchy for days. They are small enough that they might be able to get through even if the doors/windows are open with screen on. So it is best to keep the doors and windows closed. We had AC in both the rooms going, so that they could cool the living room area as well.
The hosts are wonderful people and were very responsive. The house water system is in a cistern well so we had an issue where the shower stopped after 5 minutes or so. We emailed the property manager and owners at night and the plumber came in next day and fixed it. They also advised us on what to do after we were heavily bit by nooseums after sitting on the sand at rainbow beach during sunset. The owners have left bug spray, baby oil (works well to keep nooseums from biting you) and many other useful things.
The bed was very good, clean linens. The house was equipped with many interesting books and some games, a good pair of binoculars and snorkeling/ beach gear.
The kitchen was fairly equipped (missing oil and sugar which we replenished), with a good variety of pots and pans.
The bathroom could use some deep cleaning coz everything else felt upgraded and/or clean.
Overall it is a lovely property. We would recommend this place to our friends with just a word of caution about nooseums which seem to be at many locations on the island during dawn and dusk.

Location is great! Rooms are large with lots of visibility ... although, some finishes need to be updated but are not a problem as is. The new washer/dryer are a great addition. We had several power outages and were glad we brought a couple of flashlights (in addition to those provided by the owners). Overall, the house was well equipped with just about everything we needed.

While this is an older classic construction home in Rainbow Bay it has all the things you need to cook, go to the beach, snorkel, etc. And it sits right on the Caribbean and allows for great views, breezes & adventurous swimming/snorkeling off the rocky ledge & steps. The stars & fireflies at night are not to be missed. While there may be more modern, newer construction rentals this one had alot of charm & we really liked our time relaxing here. We had a snafu with our AC one night & the owners drove right over to help us out & brought us a hammock to use. They were so nice! Thank you Robin & Eliza!

This was a great property to stay in on the south side of Rainbow Bay. It was very nice to have the owners on the island and easy to get in contact with. It's also very nice having Big Rock grocery right down the street and Tony is great! It was a bit stormy when we were there but the ocean was still so amazing! It was nice to be able to sit in the shade or sun on the HUGE deck or to be able to go right down to the ocean. This house only has air conditioning in the rooms but we were fine with that because the windows let a nice breeze through the house. The house has everything you need! A big cooler and little cooler. Plenty of ice cube trays and ice packs. A few condiments in the fridge, a water jug to swap out at the grocery store. A nice clothes line and clothes pin. Plenty of beach towels. Nice Tommy Bahama beach chairs. So many books to read (a TV but we didn't try it out, so not sure about it's features). All the cleaning supplies you need (we were there 10 days, so nice to have a broom and squeegee for the windows). Binoculars, wine openers. It was a great stay with great hosts and amazing views!! We loved going to the Atlantic side and definitely snorkeling at Rainbow Bay. No matter how crazy the ocean can get, rainbow bay was ALWAYS calm. It's like snorkeling in an aquarium there. We did eat at Mel's snack shack and it was great and reasonably priced! We had a drink at the beach bar across the street from it and tried the Bethel BBQ on Saturday and it was SO worth it! $13 for a giant, delicious meal! Thanks again for sharing your home!!

Location & Ocean!!
This was a great property to stay in on the south side of Rainbow Bay. It was very nice to have the owners on the island and easy to get in contact with. It's also very nice having Big Rock grocery right down the street and Tony is great! It was a bit stormy when we were there but the ocean was still so amazing! It was nice to be able to sit in the shade or sun on the HUGE deck or to be able to go right down to the ocean. This house only has air conditioning in the rooms but we were fine with that because the windows let a nice breeze through the house. The house has everything you need! A big cooler and little cooler. Plenty of ice cube trays and ice packs. A few condiments in the fridge, a water jug to swap out at the grocery store. A nice clothes line and clothes pin. Plenty of beach towels. Nice Tommy Bahama beach chairs. So many books to read (a TV but we didn't try it out, so not sure about it's features). All the cleaning supplies you need (we were there 10 days, so nice to have a broom and squeegee for the windows). Binoculars, wine openers. It was a great stay with great hosts and amazing views!! We loved going to the Atlantic side and definitely snorkeling at Rainbow Bay. No matter how crazy the ocean can get, rainbow bay was ALWAYS calm. It's like snorkeling in an aquarium there. We did eat at Mel's snack shack and it was great and reasonably priced! We had a drink at the beach bar across the street from it and tried the Bethel BBQ on Saturday and it was SO worth it! $13 for a giant, delicious meal! Thanks again for sharing your home!!

We loved staying Gurgle and Whump and would love to return soon. The location is private and the grounds are so beautiful. the open floor plan with many windows allow you to see this view almost every spot in the house. It was well stocked (including a 5 gal jug of water). Plenty of towels, kitchen ware, snorkling equipment and an awsome outdoor shower. There is a nice walkway down to the water (which is so beautiful) where you can set up chairs, fish, swim and snorkle. The water was pretty rough during our stay, but you cannot predict the weather. It didn't stop us from gettin in, just a little hard to get out of the water. When we had trouble gettin on the internet Robin and Eliza were there to troubleshoot. THey both are very nice and can give you suggestion/advice on where to go and on some history of Eleuthera. Robin even showed me how to open and enjoy a pineapple which was on the grounds. I would definately recommend Gurgle and Whump. Great value for your money. Our only concern before we arrived was there is only one bathroom, and we had four adutls. But we did not have trouble with all of us sharing, too busy trying to enjoy the view.Thank you Robin and Eliza for sharing your cottage with us.

We are so sad to be departing Gurgle and Whump. We have stayed all over Eleuthera for years and this is by far our favourite place. From the outstanding panoramic ocean views to kitchen cookware and beach supplies to an incredible array of books and cozy, relaxing seaside décor... the vase of fresh flowers from the front garden, greeting us, was a really nice touch. G&W checks all of the boxes. We even watched a little Netflix on the Roku TV but mostly enjoyed the snorkeling and loved driftwood beach, hidden beach and rainbow bay beaches as well as freediving from the Cliffs, which is always amazing.
Looking forward to returning in 2022.
