Quirkiness
Would have liked a bigger bed
4.5
Quirky and fun - loved the rooftop terrace and watching the sun set from up there.
Road noise and other guests being loud late at night.

The breakfast was excellent
No tea and Coffee in rooms.
Nice coffee and tea maker in the breakfast room which was available at anytime but we were on the second floor so a bit of a track down stairs to access it when required
4.5
The prison theme was spot on - enough to be interesting but not too quirky to be annoying. Friendly staff and good breakfast. Multi Storey parking c£7 for 25 hours a short walk away.
We didn't find the room thermostat until we left!
3.0
Breakfast was very good and availability of drinks and snacks
Staff did their best to attend when there was a problem with the room which meant we needed to swap
Limited time of the staff available on site
Room was less than expected standard and substitute room was not ideal for space

Location was great , and rooms quirky
Was quite warm in the room , without the window open,

Great location - a little outside Winchester City centre, but easily walkable. No parking on site, but there's a multi-story car park about 5mins walk away with reasonable overnight rates. Really quirky place to stay, decent sized room and comfortable bed. There's even a roof terrace! Lovely helpful staff. Good breakfast.

Everything is great about The Black Hole.
Excellent service, wonderful facilities, it's clean, it's novelty and the staff are super. It also has a lovely roof terrace.
I would 100% recommend staying.
There is nothing not to like about this hotel, in my opinion. I can't fault it.

It’s quirky and so friendly. The stroll into Winchester along the river is just beautiful. The breakfast is amazing too!

Stairs could be a problem for some people

The overall quirkiness of the place, the attention to detail as well. We loved the cell doors 🚪the bed was so comfy! We only had to ask for an extra pillow and blanket and we got it straight. The terrace was beautiful! Ability to access hot drinks through the night was lovely during our winter stay. Staff were so helpful with advising us on parking and how to get to the cathedral Christmas market etc. a really superb place to stay.
Nothing - I have nothing negative to say about our stay.

Great place, great location.
A little noisy on occasions as the bedroom doors slammed more than closed.
4.0
Location, breakfast, quirkiness, small enough to be personal. Availability of hot and cold drinks 24hrs.
Comfortable bed, reasonable size room, access to roof terrace
Room was very hot, with no air circulation. A fan was provided but was too noisy to keep on overnight.
Pillows were a bit firm for me. Bathroom was small.

Unique place, very clean. Plugs either side of bed
Very hot in room in December. Could not turn thermostat down any lower. Opened window in the middle of the night but then quite loud with traffic. Would be nice to have a mirror in bedroom to be able to do your hair. I understand the premise of the room but needs one more unit to put things on as very little space for things

It was different, quirky and the breakfast was cooked fresh which set us up for the days sight seeing
It was not 5star but I can't think of anything that we were really unhappy with

Great Location, could not fault this fab B&B. The prison theme is a great idea and we loved it. Informative and friendly greeting at reception. We were in Cell 8. Comfy clean white sheets/duvet and soft bath towels.
Breakfast was really yum too. Plenty of everything…Croissants, fresh fruit, cereals, toast, full English or Continental. The theme continued in the breakfast room with metal plates😀.
The Black Boy pub next door is a real gem…cosy fires 🔥 and plenty of inglenooks.
Parking in Chesil Car Park is 5 mins walk from Hotel.

Quirky and clean. Fantastic idea of prison cells for bedrooms
The rooms were a bit too warm for me overnight and we could have done with some tea/ coffee in the rooms

Room was too hot, but otherwise a great stay. Very handy for a local restaurant. We were only on a flying visit so didnt get to sample breakfast. Would recommend it as a place to stay.
The heat in the room. Even with the thermostat turned off and the window open it was just too hot.

Quirky but fun
Absence of staff after 7 pm.

The Black Hole B&B was a brilliant find in Winchester and was just a short walk from the city centre and major attractions. The accommodation was quirky and the rooms (cells!) were immaculately kept. Our room was at the back of the property and didn’t have a view, but this really didn’t detract from our over all experience especially as there was a brilliant roof terrace that had wonderful views over the city. The whole style of the accommodation was simple, but executed in a very considered way, and we loved the little details throughout the property.
On our arrival, we were warmly greeted and told about the facilities we could use, which included helping ourselves at any time, to tea, coffee etc from the breakfast room. Breakfast (full English or Continental), exceeded any expectations we had, and given the exceptional price we paid for our room. Our only regret was that we didn’t stay longer!
There was nothing we didn’t like. On a personal level though, a privacy film, just on the lower bedroom window panel would have saved our embarrassment when leaving the shower room in a state of undress. This is because the property is built on a slope, and although our room was on the first floor, the footpath behind the building ran parallel to our room. It certainly wasn’t a problem though and we had a good laugh at ourselves!
We couldn’t find a hair dryer in the room, but there was probably one available had we asked.

I loved the quirkiness of the property and design of my room.
The ability to leave my case before and after checkout times. It shortened my overall stay in Winchester.

Great quirky place, second visit there this year. Very friendly and comfortable. Love the roof terrace.
All good

From start to finish our stay was perfect, walking distance to the town. Great pub next door which you could take drinks back to your room. Breakfast was delicious with such a wide choice.
Nothing everything was great
3.0
The location was excellent for getting into town and reaching all the main sites. The size of the room was a pleasant surprise as was the bath in the bathroom. The quirky theme and design is fun and the staff are helpful. The Black Boy and the Black Bottle, part of the same group, are definitely worth a visit.
It would have been good to have tea and coffee facilities in the room. Booking a time slot for breakfast each morning ahead of time, especially as most of it was self-service, was less relaxing than we would have liked - the option not to include breakfast would be good too especially since there were few gluten free options available.
