Disappointing.

Breakfast?

Entire home theatre system did not work. Message from host said there was a space heater in closet by fireplace which was locked and no key. Said there was a house manual; there was not. Really really misleading.

Very nice, convenient place (10/10), bad communication with owner if something goes wrong (5/10).

The place is great, Bed is very comfortable, greatly equipped kitchen, nice garden and very beautiful green surrounding, the parking just outside is very convenient and the location is good, in general the place is extremely well suited for a visitor of a few days to even several weeks in Berkeley.

We had a very disturbing interaction with the owner. First, several things that were supposed to be in the apartment were missing - in particular, the handbook explaining everything which was promised to be there, was not to be found, the home theatre, which was one of the main reasons for us to choose the place, especially since my 10 year old son was enthusiastically expecting it - didn't work. Later we found that also the DVD is missing. The main problem was that no matter how much I tried, I couldn't get to talk to the owner on the phone to get help on these issues. We managed to communicate only over the messenger, but the owner kept sending cryptic messages; my guess is that he or she were not in the country but wouldn't say so. At some point after a few days of me trying to resolve the home theatre problem without success, the owner promised to send someone to come over; that person didn't come. Only in our last day I managed, with the help of a good friend, to make the theatre work; it required a lot of technological knowledge since many of the definitions in the setup needed to be changed. To summarize, the deal with the place is that it is very nicely equipped, but don't expect any help if something goes wrong.
