About this villa rental
Casa Celestiale is a traditional farmhouse restored in 2019 to high standards. Situated up in the hills on the Umbrian Tuscan border, just beyond the hilltop town of Montone. The house is super private and quiet with panoramic views across the unspoilt Carpini Valley, providing the perfect get away for a multi generation family holiday in the green heart of Italy.
The house sleeps 12 in 6 spacious oak beamed bedrooms. With traditional cotto floors throughout and thick old stone walls summer evenings are cool with only the need for a fan on a warmer night. The main master suite has an open fireplace and new en-suite bathroom with roll top bath, separate shower and double basin vanity. There are views over the pool and french windows that open towards the south west to Mount Acuto. The second double bedroom has an en-suite with spa bath and shower and is adjacent to a twin room with its own shower room and is an excellent family suite with a door at the end of the corridor making it quiet and private. The third double has an en suite shower room and its own private external staircase entrance making it a perfect romantic hideaway. French windows look down over the pool and to the mountains in the east. The final 2 twin rooms are on the ground floor, just up some steps from the kitchen and they share a bright shower room. These rooms are an ideal teenage refuge or great for independent younger kids and our girls' favourites.
We have a travel cot and put-up bed perfect for an extra child by arrangement.
The house has 2 big living rooms - next to the kitchen and on the upper floor. Both have big comfy sofas infront of old stone fireplaces with Jøtul wood burners. There is a well stocked library (games and puzzles for all ages) a TV for watching local stations and big selection of DVD's, so there's lots to keep everyone occupied indoors.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a big ILVE 6 burner, double oven range, two dishwashers and an American style fridge/freezer. The huge marble island is perfect for pasta making and communal cooking, herbs can be picked right outside the kitchen door. We have a good selection of cook books and well stocked kitchen but it you fancy a night off, you can book a cook!
Step out of the big kitchen onto the wisteria covered loggia to eat your breakfast, wander down under the olive trees to the big salt water infinity pool (15x6m, 2m at the deep end) The Pool House has its own kitchenette with an old marble sink reclaimed from the house, glasses, plates & cutlery, a small fridge for chilling drinks & snacks to enjoy poolside on a sun lounger or on the sofas where you may find yourself later in front of the open fireplace with the glowing golden light across the valley. Days will slide by with family and friends who can take advantage of the big garden to find their own spaces - sunrise yoga poolside, doze in a hammock in the shade of the big old fig trees, read a book after a long relaxed lunch under the jasmine pergola or take a stroll through the olive grove. For the more energetic play bocce or badminton. Venture outside the garden onto the beautiful paths that lead off into the surrounding countryside to discover magnificent views and cool woodlands for wonderful walks to reconnect with the nature that surrounds the garden.
Delight in beautiful summer evenings eating around the big wooden table out under the stars with the scent of jasmine from the pergola. In June the fireflies are magical and star gazers will love the Milky Way stretching across the night sky.
For the more energetic, walkers & runners will delight in the numerous well marked white trails and may be rewarded with the wildlife to be found in the oak woods around us. Wild flowers abound in the spring and early summer months. A good walk from the house along a dramatic ridge to the 9th century Rocca d'Aries is not to be missed with views to Montone and along the Upper Tiber Valley. This takes about 40 mins to reach and is a beautiful walk.
The magical hilltop town of Montone is only 15 minutes drive away and has a good variety of places to eat, from top restaurants to pizzeria and best gelato at the Aries Bar in the piazza. Take a day trip to one of the many amazing medieval towns nearby packed with history and a multitude of churches and art galleries - Assisi, Gubbio, Perugia, Arrezzo & Cortona are only 45-60 mins away, Florence and Siena make great day trip and can be reached in under 2 hours.
Go horse riding, hiking, mountain biking, play golf or drive to Lake Trasimeno for water sports. There are many festivals throughout the year in the local towns which are not to be missed! Seasonal truffle hunting can be arranged - the big Truffle festival in Pietralunga in the Autumn is fantastic. The local wines are definitely worth tasting and visits can be arranged to local vineyards.
Casa Celestiale has something for everyone, but we, like our guests, are often most happy to just stay at the house and enjoy its seclusion and peace.
Please note that the house is very rural! The last 6km are on a ‘white’ gravel road and the last part of this is hilly so don't come in your sports car..! There are couple of rough, steeper sections but just put the car in low gear and you’ll be fine.

We had the best time ever! I organised a group vacation to celebrate my birthday. All my friends were shocked by the beauty of the place – the photos don't even do the house and garden justice. This place is managed with loads of love. The kitchen is so well equipped, you'll find everything here, and the library upstairs is amazing. Our highlight was the pool, as it was the perfect size for 12 people and the perfect temperature and even on the last day, we couldn't get over that stunning view. Also, communication was easy, we always had someone to reach out to and they helped us directly with all our concerns and questions.

An exceptional house and infinity pool in the hills close to Montone. The children spent many hours in the pool and we all had a barbecue supper on the patio in the evening. The accommodation was wonderful and the kitchen allowed us all to help with cooking. Our master bedroom was very comfortable and had netting on the windows to stop the insects. Amazing property.

Very stylish well thought through villa, most of it nicely renewed. Great furnishings. Tous conforts. All along the front three sides are delightful terraces and quiet spots.
And then there is the pool!
Montone nearby, is an Italian classic of a mountain top town. Heaven. Nice if it were a few kilometres closer.

We couldn’t have asked for anything more from Casa Celestiale. The house is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated, with everything you could possibly need. We loved the gardens, particularly picking the fresh tomatoes & figs. What made Casa Celestiale so special for us was the perfect location & incredible views, it was so peaceful in the hills just outside of Montone. The pool was incredible, and we spent so many hours just soaking it in!
Tara & Matteo were both extremely helpful and very kind.
We have such special memories of our time here, and would love to be back in the future!

The property is simply stunning. An incredible place to combine unwinding and getting away from things with visits to lovely small Italian towns (we had lots of coffee/lunch in Montone and a few trips to Città di Castello). We visited Casa Celestiale with three family generations. We just loved sitting on the terrace or by (or lounging in) the pool and enjoying the beautiful setting -- the view by day, the stars by night. The house itself is so well designed -- an old property that has been renovated to an extremely high standard. So much attention to detail throughout and very comfortable for our two families, with three bedrooms with double beds and three bedrooms with two single beds, as well as two large living spaces, a large kitchen -- plently of room for everyone to spread around, in other words. The garden is lovely -- kids played badmington and explored and helped us pick plums, that we then turned into plum compote. We ate outside on the terraces every day, which are again so well thought out -- for example, there is one with part shade, one with full shade. Other useful features: two dishwashers, screens on every window, a range of outside games to use for the kids, an ample DVD collection, fans for every room. We had such a lovely time. I could have stayed all summer.

Amazing Stay in Italy!
Casa Celestiale was amazing for our holiday and first time in Italy with friends and family! The home had everything you could ask for and more. The views from every angle and window were spectacular! The house stayed cool during the evenings and the pool was a delightful retreat during the days. The saltwater pool with the infinity edge made you feel like you never wanted to leave. Swinging in the hammocks that overlooked the olive trees with the cool breeze was so relaxing and peaceful. The bedrooms and bathrooms were exquisite and comfortable. The kitchen was quite big and it was most spectacular having Chef Masha Rener cook two wonderful meals for us and teach us how to make pasta! Showing her passion for cooking and hearing her stories was an amazing experience! The lavender bundles that she taught us how to make and have traveled home with us, keep a little touch of Italy close. There were plenty of spaces in and around the house and pool for everyone to find their retreat when needed. Morning espresso and meals on the patio overlooking the landscape were a daily ritual. We enjoyed sips of Amaretto on the side patio while having the spectacular view of the evening stars. The cherry trees on the property were so delicious that my daughter made jam and we are enjoying still! The walk to the castle was enjoyable with magnificent views over the valley and of the castle itself! The location of Casa Celestiale was close enough to town and shopping. We were able to explore the neighboring towns, each with its own unique characteristics and people. Tara our host was easy to communicate with during the entire booking process, helpful with the local grocery locations, and we loved her recommendation of Chef Masha. Matteo was always available and helpful with any questions we had.
For our first time in Italy we had the most wonderful place to call home for our stay! Thank you Tara for sharing your family’s beautiful home with us!

Exceptional family holiday
We had an absolutely lovely family holiday here. The pool area was a hoot - the pool itself was brilliant, the pool house superb, all geared up for lots of fun!
And the gsrden, countryside and nature was quite exceptional; well away from industrial farming, the variety of birds, lizards, butterflies and so on was wonderful, and there were some lovely walks.
We loved it. As the description warns it is a good way from towns, so possibly not the place if you want to hit the town every night, and the WiFi is functional - but not if you want to stream video, apparently though we didn't and had no problems therefore.
The villa was big, great facilities, beautiful, the rooms and outside areas lovely and varied.
It's a really exceptional place, the whole family from 24 to 58 loved it.

Fabulous retreat in the Umbrian hills
We have just returned form a wonderful two week holiday spent at Casa Celestiale. The house lived up to its name in every respect - a stunning location with a view over the hills and surrounding countryside, a fabulous garden with hammocks, multiple seating areas in which to relax or dine and a fantastic pool to cool off in. The house itself was beautifully decorated and extremely spacious. For us it was the perfect place to relax and reunite with family and we really only felt the need to leave when we were due a supermarket trip! All in all, a wonderful place to stay and we very much hope to return in the future!
