About this cottage rental
Summary:
Creekside Retreat is a delightful Chincoteague coastal cottage that’s perfect for couples, families, or small groups of friends -- and has everything you need for your getaway!
The highlights:
- Listen to the birds & frogs along our private backyard creek
- Hang out around the fire pit
- Relax in our sunroom or screened-in-porch
- Stream movies or take video calls on the fastest WiFi you can get
- Explore the pristine beaches of Assateague National Seashore a few miles away
Enjoy!
The Space:
Our creekside-cottage is packed with amenities and fun for couples, families or small groups of friends.
The cabin includes:
- 3 bedrooms (four beds total)
- A large backyard with stone patio, fire pit, and grill
- Direct creek access with daily visits from herons, egrets, and other coastal wildlife
- Beautiful front sunroom and back screened-in-porch offering two locations perfect for relaxing on a sunny day
- Fast WiFi that's good enough to stream movies and hold video calls
- Fully-stocked kitchen with a stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher and coffee bar
- Central HVAC
The backyard and creek are great for spending time outside. Please do know that after rains, the yard may be wet. Also, if you'll be spending time at the creek, many of our guests find bug-repellent helpful. This comes with the territory of being coastal and having a creek, of course!
Linens -- including bedsheets and towels -- are included! (Yes, we think it’s weird no one else seems to do this. We want you to relax and enjoy yourself.) :)
We often take our three little kids and dog to the cabin with us, so we're very family- and dog-friendly. Unfortunately we don't allow cats (we're allergic).
Beyond the cottage itself, we love how close we are to Assateague Island and National Seashore -- less than a 15 minute drive. Explore the miles of hiking trails, relax on the beach, and view the wild ponies! On your way to/from the beach, you’ll drive through cute little downtown Chincoteague with great shops, cafes, restaurants.

This house is great for small family with dogs . I had my 2 daughters , wife and 2 dogs and the house was perfect. Great condition, location, and the house Manager was great ! Always there if I had any questions and really made sure I and my family felt like home and had everything we needed . I would recommend this place to anyone and will definitely be happy to book this property in the future

Started out poorly. Had difficulty finding in the rain and dark at night. Tony our host did send us a picture so that was helpful. Inside the house was clean. However the screened in porch and the backyard area was a mess. We had looked forward to eating outside on the porch but the furniture etc was so filthy we could not do that. In addition the steps off of the driveway were very steep. Also the way the screen door opened on these steps it was difficult to get to the railing. We are senior citizens so that was a big safety issue for us. One very good point was the glassed in porch on the front. Another plus was the beds were comfortable and the air conditioner worked good. Another issue was when we were trying to checkout the code for the lock box was different from the handbook we downloaded and the one Tony sent the first night. We were using the one in the handbook and we could not get the box open to put the keys in. We spent quite a bit of time trying to figure it out until we tried the one that Tony sent us.This is a good placement for a young family who will be out most of the day.

Stayed here to explore the area and do a tour to see ponies.

This place was nothing like the pictures on VRBO. The house was in such disrepair it looked terrible! There was black mold on the front and back of the house. There was an overturned trashcan in the front yard with trash in it! The grass had not been mowed and was about 8 inches tall. The inside smelled of mold. The furniture old, unmatching. I caught my sweater on a splintered part of the table and it ripped my sweater. There was dust and dirt and a lot of pollen inside the house, all over the floors near the back door and front door. The siding on house was loose and looked like it would fall off. The neighborhood was awful! There was a rusted trailer next door with trash all around it. The other neighbor had a huge tank in yard and trash everywhere. The fence in between this house and the trailer was literally falling over. The ‘firepit’ was a small round bowl with unmatching chairs around and grass so long you would not want to sit out there at all. The neighborhood felt unsafe! No view as this house is right on a road that is LOUD and lots of cars going by. It was so terrible we could not stay there and left 15 minutes after arrival. I contacted the host, he told me to contact VRBO. I hope they will get back to me.

We only had a short stay to relax away from work but the weather didn’t cooperate (rainy and windy). Luckily the cottage was cozy and we enjoyed our books and each other. Only suggestion, need a sponge or brush to help in cleaning up after meals. Would definitely recommend to others

We were all delighted at how much space the cottage had.
It was truly our home away from home.

We enjoyed our time in this classic beach cottage - good space for being indoors, all while drawing you outside . Back yard is great for hanging out (even though our weather wasn't great).

No bath mats or hand towels in bathrooms. Master shower leaked each time it was used. We had to use extra towels to mop up the water. Not trash bags provided (contacted Tony to get some). No dish towels provided. Paper towels and toilet were cheap and very thin, so you had to use twice as much. Ran out of toilet paper mid week. Contacted Tony and was told no one was available to bring us any more. Had to go to an Island store to buy some. Prices are higher, despite it being "off season". I emptied the 2 humidifiers daily. I was not asked to, but did due to the humidity in the house. Mid week, issue's with AC. Maintenance man showed up over an hour late. He said he thought it was the thermostat. It did work the rest of the stay. Run down trailer right next door. A man sat in his recliner 24/7 watching tv with his window wide open. Kinda creepy! Shower curtain in bathroom was yellowed and gross at the bottom. Small TV, roku needs replaced. LR furniture uncomfortable (it is wicker with cushions). LR is small and limited furniture. Not enough room for more than 3 people. I was texted the night before trash day and told to put the trash out. We had been there 2 days. All the trash was from the previous people. But, I did it. Too many reminder texts about checkout. I am not a moran. DO NOT do Barnacle Bills Boat Tour. Paid over $100.00 and did not see 1 single pony or dolphin!

Enjoyed a long and glorious weekend in Chincoteague with family. The cottage was quaint, clean, and it was greatly appreciated that linens were provided. Communication with the host was exceptional. House instructions and tips for the local area were on point. The screened in patio and the backyard view was tranquil. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

The pony penning week experience was amazing and highly recommended. We were disappointed to learn upon arrival that the master bath was "under construction". The shower was unusable resulting in 4 adults sharing 1 shower. Not ideal anytime but especially challenging when outdoor activities result in sweat and grime. The host/owner was very responsive, but responses were automated and disingenuous. For example, when told the grill was not operable or safe, he quickly said he'd alert his handyman, but we never saw or heard from the handyman and the grill remained unusable. We made the best of it and enjoyed the experience, but the house was not additive.

Nice clean house for a family, close to everything on the island but quiet.

Great little place
Came for a weekend trip with our adult children and grandson. Lovely little place with a nice screened in back porch. We spent a lot of time on the porch and around the firepit. Spent some time at the beach and did a sunset cruise. Wonderful weekend. The place is well-equipped and it’s great not to have to bring linens. One thing is to come prepared with some bug spray-goes with the territory so it’s to be anticipated but the mosquitoes are pretty intense. Highly recommend the place!!

Leading up to our trip Tony was extremely welcoming and helpful. Being regular visitors to the island for 25 years, we knew exactly what we were seeking; tranquility, peace and a warm, cozy, clean home and that's exactly what we found upon arrival. The rooms were neatly decorated and the porches were awesome overlooking the natural beauty of the island. Loved our "quiet retreat".

We really enjoyed staying at this property, especially the spaciousness given the moderately-sized square footage of the property. It has two nice sun porches - one in front and one in back - and we found the details of the property exactly as represented in the online photos. Lots of natural light, especially in the dining area, and a very spacious kitchen, well equipped with cooking essentials. There was also a nice view of the creek from the backyard.
The owners made themselves very available to answer any questions, provide local recommendations, and resolve issues as necessary.
All in all, this house served as a restful base for some quiet winter enjoyment of the local nature.
Would stay again if in the area.

The house is very clean and an added perk was linens were provided. The property owner sent a detailed house manual that gave a lot of good information. Take the info about the back door lock seriously. I did get locked out the first night. They also allow dogs but be aware that the yard is not fenced and there is marshland behind it. Overall the house was great and I would book there again.

My family of four enjoyed staying at Creekside Retreat. Tony was super helpful and communicative. The house has many unique decorative and design elements including two screened porches and skylights that really brighten up the rooms. The location was very quiet and we saw many birds, including an Osprey near the creek in the backyard.

We have a lovely time at the cabin. Checkin was easy. The house get very clean. We appreciated the sheets, plates, kitchen utensils, and especially the great washer and dryer! So necessary on a trip to the beach with kids. We enjoyed nice relaxing meals around the table. My husband said this house was great for our family of five because there are a lot of nice spaces for everyone to get away to (and keep the peace!). The owner has clearly put a lot of thought into making sure that guest have access to the things they need. We had a great experience, and we hope to come again next year.
