We had a wonderful time on our family vacation at this home! It is in the perfect location close to hiking trails and city life so you can do whatever you want. The house is very dog friendly with a nice fenced in yard and porch. The only con is the driveway because of the potholes at the entrance but don't let that steer you away! This house was perfect for our family of six and we had plenty of room even with the dog! Thanks again to the owners for letting us stay in their beautiful home!

House stocked with every thing you could need. You can immediately tell that the owners have invested in making this home clean and cozy. Perfect for traveling pets with secure fencing in the back yard. Quiet and private. Woodsy with distant mountain views. What a great experience. Would love to return.

We had a great time at this property over the holiday. Great location, 10 minutes from Sylva, plenty of space, great fenced in yard for the dogs, kitchen complete with everything we needed. Some simple updates to this property can make this the absolute perfect home to book. Doorknobs didn’t work so you had to lock the top lock, quick easy inexpensive fix to make guests feel more secure. And the beds were not comfortable, if not complete new mattresses, just mattress toppers would have helped with comfort at night. Other than those items, this was a great location and property for us.

we loved the house. it was very, convenient location, with all the conveniences of home. The house was very clean and well-appointed. We had some issues figuring out the thermostat, but it didn't present a major problem. We would love to return next year.

House was nice, very quiet and private. It had everything you needed to cook a meal. We did not use the grill. We had tons of towels and washcloths if needed. Internet worked great. The downstairs was great for spreading out. My only complaint was that the mattresses could use replacing, but my mattress at home is hard as rock so it may not be an issue for some people

Great stay for a wedding with Western Carolina University crowd and our dogs!

Stay was great! Perfect for my dad and daughter and great for my Shiba Inu

Not a very well maintained place. The yard had not been mowed in a while grass was very high and had to secure gates with ratchet straps because they would not latch .The deck needs cleaning. House was fine , other than the squeaky ceiling fan in downstairs bedroom.

Nice and cozy home, that has easy access to and from the main highway. Very pet friendly, for those wanting their dogs to have their own play area.
Amenities included a grill and a “game room”.
Would have been nice to use the grill, however the propane tank was empty. The game room consists only of board and card
games. There is a basketball hoop outside if you brought a basketball.
Home is clean, but long over due for cosmetic updates.

The rental was well advertised and was exactly what we were expecting. During our stay the area had record low temperatures, but the house stayed relatively warm. The bedrooms with sliding glass doors were a little bit colder, but plenty of blankets were provided. It was a nice touch to have the handmade quilts. We enjoyed the den downstairs. It was cozy. We also enjoyed cooking several meals. The grocery store was very closely located.

This is probably the best Vacation Home we have stayed in. The location is perfect and an easy drive. The home is gorgeous. Hands down the most pet friendly home we have stayed in! The kitchen is incredibly well stocked!! The yard is amazing and this whole home is kid welcoming. There isn’t a single thing to not love about this home!! The quilts were gorgeous. Take the time to appreciate them!

Nice roomy space but the mattresses are horrible. Worth tolerating if you have pets because it’s a great setup for your four legged family members.

Great spot for dogs!
A group of friends and I rented a house for the weekend to explore the surrounding areas. It was perfect. My dogs loved being able to run around freely in the fenced yard and super enjoyed the dog blankets provided for them. Also haven’t slept on a water bed since the early 2000s and it was a huge hit with everyone. Would definitely rent again for a large group.

Loved the fenced yard and dog run. The beds were quite comfortable. There were plenty of dishes, glasses etc. But, the house itself needs some TLC. Parque-type floor was very worn with gaps between the sections. Threshold between vinyl and carpet was loose and a trip hazard. There was a hole in the wall near the closet in one bedroom. One or more of the dining table chairs had stains. One of the extra blankets had a spot/stain. The vinyl tile in the shower of the master bath was cracked with mold or a mold-looking substance in the cracks. The water in that shower was either extremely hot or extremely cold. There was no comfortably warm. The ice maker and dispenser are the weirdest thing I have ever seen. To have ice dispensed from the dispenser we had to use an extremely small scooper and hand load ice into the dispenser. Why even have the ice dispenser? The vertical blinds in the master bedroom has slats missing. The view was not one of the prettiest mountain-views. Given these things the daily rate was too much for the house. The very worst aspect though was the the turn onto Cavern Ridge and into the driveway. Both my friend and I are from areas without mountains. The mountain roads up to Cavern Ridge were fine but, the turn onto Cavern Ridge is quite difficult. The turn into the driveway is very dangerously scary especially at night. So scary that my friend and I ate very early dinners in order to get back to the house while still daylight.
The owner had a few instructions in a frame on the wall. The instructions were after a brief story about the house. The story was sweet but, the instructions should be in a binder or folder on the dining table. I did not see the instructions until I read the story on the time of our departure. My friend never would have seen them if I did not tell her about the story and the instructions that followed.
The management company was so easy to work with BUT I was told that after 7pm the phones would be forwarded to another SRG location so someone would be able to help if there was a problem. I called after 7 pm. All calls went to voice mail.
So sorry about the review. The fenced yard and dog run were great.

The house was perfect for our big family. Some repairs are needed. Downstairs had a musty-pee smell and the couch and bed were uncomfortable it the beds and sleeper couch upstairs were great! Blinds in master bedroom need replacing as do the broken blinds downstairs. Communication with Sundog was great!! You all were on it! Good place for the price! Nice and private

This was a last minute getaway weekend for my husband's birthday. We wanted to bring our two Alaskan Malamute dogs and get snowed in. Everything was perfect! Communication with Sundog Vacations was wonderful, we got in without any issues, and were delighted by the house. It was more than two people and two big dogs needed but it very well equipped and furnished. We and the dogs loved having the fenced in yard. The tall fence was perfect for our big fur balls. We got about six inches of snow and the power went out for about 12 hours. We had prepared and were warm and comfy. Again, communication with the rental agency was terrific during the power outage. Having the gas heater was a big plus too. We were reluctant to leave. I think we will return to Above the Clouds soon!
Management Response:
Thank you for your feedback! We are so happy to know that you enjoyed your time at the home! We would be delighted to host you and your furry friends again in the future!

Great view and more
The property management team is very responsive and helpful. No issues finding the property based on instructions provided. Great view from Master room and balcony. Our friends had a dog and were extremely pleased with accommodations. Kids loved the den.
Minor drawbacks
1. While we played with setting heating took a while
2. Guest bath shower knob was missing( property mgmt did notify about this before arrival) so for those taking shower in that bathroom it was a small challenge to get water temp right
3. All appliances in the kitchen are like new. But in our experience the microwave took much longer to heat items and the dish washer sometimes had to run twice once. Not faulty owners on this but more fyi.
All in all considering location price and pet friendly we enjoyed our short stay.

The property is spacious yet cozy. Lots of space for gathering and getting caught up. The appliances and kitchen “kit” were very top drawer. We like to cook and this was a big plus. We loved the easy access to downtown Sylva and the Nantahala trout fishing. The pottery, glassware, and quilts were a lovely icing on a pretty place!
