About this house rental
BEST LOCATION IN DOWNTOWN ST. JOE!
This beautiful historic house is only a short block from State St. restaurants, wineries, and boutiques. Just one block to the bluffs that will take you down the steps to Silver Beach. You can see downtown St. Joe and the bluffs from the front porch of the house!
Located on State St. in the Historic District, the "McNeil House" was originally built in 1855. While it still holds its historic charm, it resonates the coastal beach life!
We all love our pets and hate to leave them behind, so we welcome up to two well-groomed pets as long as guests agree to follow our pet rules. As a courtesy to future guests that may have severe allergies to pets, we DO NOT allow pets on the furniture or bedding, and guests must clean up any additional shedding. Pet's must be crated when left alone. Guests must pick up after them outside. We charge $175 Per pet. Please let us know if you'll be bringing a pet.

Very nice historic home. It’s a short walk to shops, restaurants, Library, children’s Museum, splash pad, and beach. It was perfect for our family reunion vacation.

This was truly a magical place. Check in was easy the house was clean and as expected. Also, very well stocked. Most of all the location can’t be beat.

We had a girls weekend. There were 9 of us. This house is perfect for a large group. The location is walking distance to EVERYTHING. The beds are super comfortable. An added surprise is the first floor bedroom (#2) is an en-suite. I would definitely recommend this property. I will definitely return the next time I find myself in St. Joseph. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us.

We stayed at this home for 5 nights with a large family group, ages 3-68. We absolutely loved it! The house is very old in an established neighborhood one block from downtown and one block from the lake view. We walked to the beach every day and loved how close it was to everything - we barely needed the car during our trip. The house had a few minor issues (again, old house) but Rebecca was responsive and accommodating and fixed all issues to our satisfaction. We had a simply lovely stay and will definitely be back.

The house was very nice and clean. There was plenty of space for everybody and the location was so close to everything.

The home was advertised as “No pets allowed,” When we got there the cleaning person was just leaving and commented that the prior guests had a large husky and she tried to get all the dog hair up, but wasn’t certain she got all of it. I looked up the listing Ava sure enough, it stated “no pets allowed.” Cleaner said many guests bring their dogs to this home.
I communicated to the host that we booked the home under the assumption that no pets were allowed. Then I sent photos of the dog hair EVERYWHERE. The first night, sitting in the couch in the living room, I felt my asthma start kicking in. TBF, it also could have been that it was a 100 year old home and the basement where you need to go down to put the towels in the wash is old and musty so I’m sure there’s mold going on as well—which is to be expected in a home this old.
Host did give us a $100 cleaning fee refund.
Home was not as well furnished as we are used to with other VRBO’s. No salt, pepper, or any spices. No aluminum foil, waxed paper, ziplock bags, leftover containers. Many light bulbs missing.
Listing states fireplace; it was actually just a piece of furniture with an electric fireplace for show only—no heat given off and in my mind, NOT a fireplace.
Listing also stated there was a grill. The grill was in the attached garage and looked like it hadn’t seen the light of day in years. No way we were putting our food on it.
The location is 10/10 but otherwise we would’ve passed on this rental.

A large group of friends stayed here based on the number of rooms, beds, and short distance to the cute downtown area and the lake. We all enjoyed our stay. This house has a lot of charm and is on the older side, but being over 160 years old you have to expect settling in the house. I would stay here again!

I had a great stay at this house! Plenty of room inside to accommodate my big group. It was also walking distance to the beach and some local restaurants. Definitely worth the stay.

We had a fantastic time for our week stay at this property. The location is perfect, only a 1 block walk to the downtown area and 2-3 blocks to the bluff leading down to the public beach. The house itself isn't as nice as some of the other properties we've stayed at with a similar cost, but the pictures are a fair representation and the tradeoff was absolutely worth it for the location. We'd gladly stay here again.

Perfect!
The 12 of us spent 3 wonderful days in this centrally located house which offered us Krasl Art Museum, Silver Beach, and several restaurants within a short walk. The house itself has air conditioning, a beautiful kitchen and enough space that everyone has a sense of privacy. So comfortable and relaxing!

Great location
Perfectly located, beautiful, old home. It was very clean and had lots of entertainment spaces. We are a group of sisters all over 60. We found the uneven step heights and no walk in showers to be a bit difficult. But our children and grandchildren traversed the steps with no problems when they visited us. Parking is on the street or down the block in the free lot.

Had a spectacular time. The house was cozy with plenty of space for family to socialize. Wonderful sunsets, and walks on beach. See you next year.

We stayed for a long weekend with 5 kiddos under 8 and 6 adults. Plenty of room for fun and family time, along with games and videos for a rainy day. The location was excellent. Much closer than we realized to downtown and the beach. We walked everywhere. Definitely recommend!

Good experience. Very old house with dangerous wooden steps, dim lighting, limited electrical outlets. Property was advertised with 3 bathrooms, however only had 2 1/2. Upstairs shower needs new shower curtain liner as it leaks out back. Great location! Somewhat expensive for wintertime stay. We appreciated being allowed to checkin early. But our grandchildren ended up not being able to come ☹️.

St. Joe State St home
Great stay-perfect location! House has old charm. Didn’t like that we had to strip beds and bring all the sheets/towels down to the rather creepy old basement.

Fantastic location!! 5 couples stayed here for a wedding over the weekend. It was one block from the start of downtown and one block from the lake! Couldn’t ask for a better house. More than enough space for everyone as well. The two showers worked out for everyone, just had to make schedules to shower! Very quick responses from the hosts as well :)

We have stayed at the McNeil House several times over the last 8 years. We love the proximity to downtown St Joe and Silver Beach. The new owners have decluttered, freshly painted all rooms, and swapped the queen for a king bed in the bedroom at the top of the stairs (the rear one, not the one that has the queen with two twins). As well, the room on the main floor which previously had just a twin bed, now has a queen bed. We had never actually used that room during our past rentals, but it was much appreciated this time now that it has a bed for two. The structure of the house is the same, floors still creak to show their age :) I suspect the cleaning crew may still be the same, too. Though cleaner than any of our previous stays, we still noticed some dust under furniture. If you are looking for the best location to host a larger gathering, wedding party, reunion, etc, I highly recommend the McNeil House!

We very much enjoyed our stay at this beautiful historical home right in downtown St. Joseph a couple blocks from the beach and a 1/2 block all the shops and restaurants.
The home is completely updated and the central air and plumbing was working beautifully. The home is also very clean and well organized—plenty of dishes, cups, pots, pans, serving plates and utensils for everyone. The only thing to note is that It says 3 full baths on the description but really it is only 2-1/2 with the 1/2 bathroom connected to one of the downstairs rooms. The only other thing to note is for anyone with physical limitations: This house was built in 1855. The basement stairs are treacherous that lead to the washer and dryer, and the bathtub on the first floor is also not easy for older adults.
I will say that the upstairs king bed was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in, and the upstairs entertainment room is a great plus. We only had a handful of people but the house easily accommodates the listed number of people comfortably. Overall this house is a real gem and we would love to stay again sometime. The town of St. Joseph is such a great town for all ages!

This was a perfect location for us to stay for my son's wedding weekend. Quiet neighborhood. Parking was not an issue. Historic home had it's expected quirks, but was overall clean, comfortable and charming.!

We really enjoyed this home with our friends & can’t wait to go back. The home had everything we needed & was so close to all the stores & restaurants. Our only complaint was the ants in the kitchen so we rinsed everything down before we used it.
