It’s a lovely building in a fabulous location in Sheila with friendly staff. With a little more attention to detail, it could be magical.
It could be glorious with more management. The room we apparently booked had no hot water as there was an issue with the tank. This didn’t seem to be a big deal with the staff, which should be surprising.
With some more thought and attention to detail this could be a super super spot. Small things were missing….bathmat rather than cheap flip flops, water and water glasses in the room, pristine linen etc plus the other guests had strewn laundry everywhere and their kids made a lot of noise first thing in the morning.

The location the view and the wind cooling heath
The breakfast table not super clean
6.0
The location was great as it was near the beach and had beautiful views. I also like the balcony areas outside the rooms
The room was not cleaned well and the facilities have worn out. Wifi also didn't work for 2 days. Management should consider refurbishing it as this would really let the property shine. Payment terms should be specified upfront as they wanted cash since the card machine wasn't working - the only atm is in Lamu old town

The staff was very friendly, picked me up from the pier and served me a welcome drink. It's also possible for them to organize a boat that picks you up from the airport(1500 KSH cash only). The payment for the room isn't possible via card (only cash and mpesa) but they were super relaxed about it and i only paid on checkout, once i've gone to the ATM.
payment via card is not possible (only mpesa or cash). the room itself does not have a balcony, as advertised on booking.com - instead you have access to shared balconies (which to be fair, are really nice with an amazing view).

The location was good (Shela).
Very nice staff
Breakfast OK though very basic.
1. Sheets and pillows with questionable stains
2. Lamp was broken
3. The fan was not on top of the bed, thus, no air circulation (problematic when it's >30°C at night)
4. Toilet didn't have a lid
5. Make sure to have cash with you as they don't let you pay with card! The boat from and to the airport is also yours to pay (unlike other hotels in Shela)

Location was ok. Close to the main area of Shela and there is a nice view from the resting area.
Breakfast was ok also, not buffete and sometimes there were missing things (like toasts) but is ok if u talk with them.
Overall I think is good for the price and the type of hotel.
No accept payment by card.
For this price I will expect that.
And was communicated at the end.
The bed was very noise when moving a bit.
The pillows were 2 per person and big but they were too hard. Uncorfortable for the neck

The staff were all unbelievable. So helpful and kind and they all went above and beyond to make my stay here great. The room is very spacious and the design allows for a wonderful breeze. There is great cupboard space and location is spot on!
There is nothing I didn't like. Completely blown away by how wonderful Royal House is!
