We had nine adult family members and one dog for a week in July. Thunder Island met our needs perfectly. The kitchen was well equipped, there is a large table for family meals and games, and the corner spot on the Sound was beautiful and quiet. Avon is the perfect beach town, big enough with a grocery store and restaurants but not at all overbuilt. We loved it.

Great rental for large parties, water sports, & dog lovers.

This home was great for our water loving family. Windsurfing, paddleboarding and fishing right in your backyard. The views are incredible. The house needs a few minor things, but we would definitely stay again.

What made this house our favorite is the backyard fishing and kayaking and unbelievable sunset view and ten-minute walk to the beach or 5 minute drive to the pier for easy beach access with plentiful parking. We loved the open floor plan and beautiful wraparound decks with spectacular water views. We will definitely return to Island Thunder.

Unparalleled view of the sound. Well stocked kitchen and great hot tub.

These homes have gorgeous views and are a great location for water sports. They are located right on the sound and they have a little lawn in front of the water to spread out the equipment and launch comfortably. The homes are little older but are kept well. Definitely in a shabby-chic category, but having all the amenities, from jacuzzi, multistory decks to communal swimming pool. I go there every year.

We were a party of 6. Definitely more than enough space for us. The house is rigbt on the water so the view was amazing. We would definitely stay here again.

We loved the variety of sports activity we took advantage of during out stay.

Stunning views and easy sound access make this the best water sports house in Avon, which you would expect given the steep price tag. The interior is large and comfortable, with a well-stocked kitchen and good laundry facilities. However, the WiFi did not work and the slightly musty bathrooms needed updating. We would definitely return, though, as the location is unbeatable.

The house was in a perfect location for kite surfing and paddle boarding. Even though it is pet friendly, it was well maintained. My only negative would be the pots/pans. The saute pans were a large size but because they were aluminum, had warped due to excessively high heat. Did not make it easy to use when cooking.

Island Thunder is a nice location on the sound. It’s a basic house. The sofas are not very comfortable and the kitchen could be stocked better. You need more than one hand towel and it would be nice to have a blender and steam basket. My biggest complaint is the coverlets in the downstairs bedroom queen bed is stained on the underneath and the kitchen drawers and cabinets need a hood inside clean out. A decent grill would have been nice as well. I travel a lot and I am used to high standards but I feel that these things need to be improved upon

The views were spectacular! All bedrooms and the top level had views of the sound.
Home was spotless. Vacasa was quick to respond to any questions or concerns. Furniture was comfortable and house was spacious.

The sunset views (West) from the home are fabulous. To the North all you see is the national seashore without housing. The location allows for easy access to the Pamlico sound for windsurfing, kiting, kayaking, etc. The oceanside beach is only a 2 blocks walk. Very quiet unless to wind is blowing and then everyone is out playin on the sound. I have stayed here before the house has had several cosmetic interior upgrades which were appreciated.

Our family loves this location because of the proximity to the sound and the fun water sports. We have 3 kids and it is stress free water fun. BUT the ocean is just a quick ride away.

Great location and arrived to a very clean and well-prepared home. The great room upstairs was even bigger in person than it looked in pics and loved the house’s layout. Very comfortable for 8 of us (three being smaller kids). Kitchen was adequately stocked for cooking. Had to call maintenance for a minor electrical issue and they were there to fix it the next day.

This property is ideally located for windsurfing/ kiting. Lovely large living area with views of the sound.
My only complaint is that the kitchen was not as well equipped as other properties I have rented.

The house was comfortable and had everything we needed. The view of the sound was amazing.

Shabby but nice
Overall this house was nice! Beautiful layout and wonderful views! The house itself is definitely a bit weathered, and looks like there hasn’t been a ton of upkeep done. The deck especially seemed to be falling apart a bit - there were several rotting boards and many rough edges. Neighboring houses have direct ramp access to the Sound, but this house doesn’t. Overall we had a nice stay!

Lovely setting
Loved the panoramic view of the sound. The lapping of the sound that you heard while sitting on the deck. Gorgeous front row seats to the sunset. The house was a perfect size for the five of us. Spacious living room and kitchen. Easy walk to the ocean. Kayak rental place within walking distance just over the bridge. Great place to stay with the dogs. They could hop right into the water.

Loved its location...on the sound and yet a short walk to the ocean.

Island Thunder #15-1
We enjoyed the water views from the wrap around windows of the wind surfers and kite surfers. The house was clean although the wet bath towels from the previous occupants were never picked up despite having notified management. There was a water leak outside which got fixed the early the next day. Trash removal days were confusing as different dates were given for our house. Note: it's wed & sat. This was the first time we stayed on the sound side and think it will be preferred over the ocean side in coming years.
