Welcome to The Wayside and Whisky Barn. Wayside Farm was built in approximately 1637 on the west coast of the Lake District, Cumbria.
The Wayside and Whisky Barn is situated at the base of Black Combe, surrounded by stunning scenery and the Cumbrian coast.
It is the perfect location for a relaxing weekend away or for the more adventurous we provide an excellent base for walking, biking, sea kayaking, wind surfing, kite surfing, we have fantastic horse riding, or if you are touring around the south west coast on motorbikes.
We are an ideal place to stay overnight, with secure parking, and after an exciting day out, why not relax with a cold glass of beer, or a pint of cold draught Peroni, good food or a warming single malt whisky, if you try one and really like it you could purchase a bottle from our whisky barn to take home with you.
In summer we have an outdoor area with picnic benches where you can enjoy the views of Black Combe and totally relax.
The accommodation has been carefully and tastefully renovated from a disused derelict barn and has kept many of its original features. All four bedrooms are decorated individually, have good quality furnishings and are all ensuite. If you enjoy the outdoor life and walking then Black Combe is located directly behind the hotel with easy access.
At The Wayside we believe a healthy body, is healthy mind. The gym @Millstones in Bootle holds state-of-the art equipment and short drive from The Wayside. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and our guests can have an access by paying a small deposit. A personal trainer can be arranged if booked in advance.
Free Wifi with ultra-fast Internet access is available across all rooms.
The hotel has secure storage, ideal for bikes, canoes and other equipment.
One well-behaved dog (two if they are of a small breed) is welcome in Windermere (the Annex). They are also welcome in the bar and restaurant.
Prices are fully inclusive of breakfast.

This was our second stay at The Wayside and Whisky Barn and we had another brilliant time.
Emiko and Doreen worked tirelessly to ensure our stay was perfect. All the food was delicious
and we enjoyed sampling from the extensive whisky and gin selections.
Dan’s detailed knowledge of the area meant that we got the most out of the beautiful surrounding countryside.

We stayed at Wayside in August for a short getaway break, what a great choice!, the accommodation is simply 5 star everything about the room was perfect, immaculately clean with quality fixtures and fittings. The bar is so well stocked and the food is just brilliant, Steven and Lynne are great hosts and made us welcome at all times, nothing too much trouble. We stayed for a Friday to Sunday short break and can say that from making the booking to leaving the owners attention to their guests is impeccable. Nothing was amiss, the rooms were exactly as presented on the web, the food was restaurant quality and the bar stocked with some interesting whiskies. We’ll have no hesitation to staying again when we are in the west lakes.

We needed accommodation for on night to close to an elderly relative, and this proved to be not only the closest place.
Able to come and go as we pleased and everything we needed was catered for in style

The room was very comfortable and beautifully decorated and a fantastic en-suite, all in a beautiful setting.
Emiko was a very helpful, welcoming and considerate host.
Breakfast was delicious. Evening meals were not available on the night we stayed but we followed Emiko's recommendation for somewhere to eat and had a lovely meal at the Blacksmith's Arms.

We have stayed at the Wayside Whisky Barn half a dozen times now and enjoyed every moment. Emiko has thought carefully over every detail which has made for a wonderful stay for all guests. Every visit starts with a very warm welcome, the bedrooms are beautifully furnished, cleanliness is top class, the views of Black Combe are lovely and the catering is first class. Nothing is too much trouble for Emiko and Doreen who looks after the guests at meal times. We can’t fault the Wayside Whisky Barn!

We were met with a warm welcome and shown to our room which was lovely; immaculate, clean, comfortable and well equipped including complimentary Noble Isle toiletries. Breakfast on both mornings was delicious and we'll definitely try dinner next time, if breakfast is anything to go by, I'm sure we won't be disappointed.
Our hosts were very knowledgeable about the area and were more than happy to share tips and information - thank you for looking after us, we'll definitely be back.

If you're looking a a peaceful setting, in a high quality space - this is IT!

Being a part of the Western Lakes scenery set between the fells and the sea in living rural community. A most convenient location from which to explore what was for us a new part of the Lake District.
Both Dan and Emiko were most welcoming and informative as was Doreen who also gave excellent service and superb guidance as to where we could explore in the time we had available.
Top notch.

Emiko provided us with some helpful information about the locality - we went to Wast Water as a result.
Helpful list of places to eat.
Be prepared to take your shoes off before going upstairs - if you are concerned about slipping on the wooden steps, take some slippers.
Good location for accessing west Cumbria (including Ravenglass Steam Railway, Wastdale and Coniston).

A spacious room and bathroom that were spotlessly clean ,with olde world charm with beamed ceilings.
The comfortable bed is always a bonus.
We had our freshly cooked 2 course evening meal served in the whisky barn, which was delicious.
Our breakfast the following morning was ample to set you up for the day ahead and served by friendly staff.

Very comfortable spacious room and bathroom, knowledgable host, very friendly service, delicious breakfasts and pre-booked evening meal. Beautiful surroundings, our room looked up towards Black Combe, we enjoyed walks along the beach at Silecroft and visits to Coniston, Windermere, Wastwater, Steam train rides and boat trips.

My husband and I were staying at the Wayside Barn for a our granddaughter’s 30th birthday party nearby. The family had come from all over the country and there were fifteen of us, but only ourselves and our son and his partner staying at the barn.
We were given a very warm welcome by Amy, the owner, who showed us around and then took us to our room on the first floor which overlooked Black Combe. The dining room and sitting area were small but well furnished and very comfortable.

We booked 5 nights at the Wayside. It was the first time we had visited that part of the Lake District and we were so surprised how quiet and relaxing it was. We were welcomed by the owner Emi, who made us feel at home straight away. The Wayside was very comfortable as was the bedroom. It's very easy to travel around from the Wayside to explore the less known areas of the National Park. We were looked after extremely well by Emi who fed us very well with her quality of cooking.

Three nights in June. Loved it from the moment we drove through the gates and an electronic beam triggered a lathe of small lights leading us to the car park.

From arriving at the Wayside & Whisky Barn you are instantly in a state of relax, Emiko, our/your host has a very warm welcome and softy she talks through the house rules, I call them the house rules as the whole place just feels like an extension to Emiko's home to which she welcomes you.
The room we had (No2 - Buttermere) was beautifully presented, very spacious, a comfortable bed, with crisp white linen and a bathroom with great shower and bath (for that long soak after a hard days walking

The Wayside is in a beautiful, quiet location. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Emiko was the perfect host and a very helpful guide to her extensive whisky collection, which was a very pleasant way to finish off the lovely meals that she prepared for us.
