About this cottage rental

Come stay directly on the beautiful beaches of the Chesapeake Bay.

We have just completed "freshening up" this roomy 4 bedroom 2 bath home. This property is #1 of a side by side duplex. Nothing is shared with the next door property except for the beach, front door entryway and large back deck.. This unit has two bedrooms downstairs along with a full bath and all the living areas. Upstairs has the Master bedroom with a King size bed and a beautiful view of the bay. The second upstairs bedroom features a Queen size bed and a small sitting area, along with a full bathroom with a combination shower and tub.

We are beach front, with a walk of about 50 feet to get across the sandy dunes. We have a 65" Smart TV and high speed WiFi for all your streaming entertainment needs. Our kitchen is fully stocked with all equipment needed for those wanting to stay home and practice your culinary skills. We have a gas fireplace for those romantic evenings after a full day at the beach.

But best of all the is the secluded neighborhood and the beautiful Chesapeake Bay Beaches, right out your door.

We also have off street parking in our driveway as well as a back deck and a charcoal grill for cooking out.

Even with a thorough modernization the property is a historical home that is now over 108 years old. It has some eccentricities that reflect building standards and designs from the turn of the last century that lends to its charm as an older beach cottage. But even so, we hope that you will love our older and charming home.

** PLEASE PAY ATTENTION - this unit is for family units ONLY! No Parties are allowed or tolerated. We live nearby to this unit and will immediately cancel and evict anything resembling a party - No "Get Togethers" - No "Inviting a few friends" - No "Cookouts" - No "friends stopping by for a visit" - No "Wakes" - No "Funerals" - No "Birthday Parties"!!!! We left the property an hour after arrival due to the tremendous smoking smell in the property, the dirty and stained couches (one smells of urine), and busted window screens which kept us from being able to open windows and air out the duplex. For minimal investment in screens and going to a thrift store for clean sofas, this property could be fine, smoking smell aside. The other side of the duplex, I suspect is lived in semi permanently as when I contacted the owner about the smoking smell, they said they would reach out to the other tenant and ask them to make sure they are smoking outside. How would they know the other tenant are smokers? We are now in a fight for a refund as the property is NOT as advertised, was in very poor condition, and unclean. We saw older reviews that reflected this but they were over a year old and we hoped that the property had been repaired and up to par....we were wrong. Stay away!!!

It was off season for the water activities but that didn’t change the view or ability for the kids to play in the sand being right on the beach. We were able to spread out in the house as needed. Easy access to I-64

My husband, son and I were looking to take a short, relaxing weekend trip away to the beach. We were hoping for a waterfront home with character and this home fit the ticket! The home is charming and has a great old home vibe. The rooms are spacious, so plenty of room to spread out and relax. It was very clean and comfortable and truly was a very short walk to the water. Atlthough we were there in the dead of winter we still enjoyed a bundled up walk on the beach, water views from the window, and proximity to the water. It was very quiet around the house and it was very easy to get to when we got off the interstate. It was 30+ minutes to drive to the VA Beach area and to the aquarium. There's also a nice big deck and screened in porch on the back of the house that is perfect for removing sandy shoes and gear. The windows facing the building next door are covered with cloudy contact paper for privacy, however I would suggest another piece be placed on the upper part of the upstairs bathroom window. It was completely open and as a taller person I felt exposed as I showered and got ready because I could clearly see into the window next door. I kept wanting to close the blinds or curtains, but there weren't any to close. Our only snafu with the trip was when we checked in - there wasn't a key in the lock box. We had a late evening arrival and were surprised to find an empty lock box after using the code to open the main front porch door. Not the best feeling to arrive after many hours of driving, tired and ready to relax, only to find no way to let ourselves in! My husband tried the doorknob and thankfully it was unlocked so we went on in and I immediately sent a message to the owners. Because it was late (11pm or so) we didn't hear back from them until morning. We spent the first night feeling concerned and a littke sketched out that there was a door key floating around somewhere and we were in an area we were completely unfamiliar with. Not the greatest start to the weekend but we rolled with it. Owners were in contact by the morning and explained previous renters had taken the key home by accient and they'd be bringing a key which got to us by 11:30 - 12 or so. I know this wasn't the owners fault, but no apologies were offered in our correspondences. Maybe make sure a key is returned between guests, but thanks for getting one to us. We had a great time and were happy to explore Willoughby Spit and hope to return during warmer months.

Comfortable enough for a short (2 night) stay. Carpets need cleaning, cozying up on the sofa meant using bedroom blankets, wrong coffee filters for the pot. If you’re going in the summer and want to spend all your time at the ocean, it’d be great.
