About this house rental
This property is located in East Franklin, on five acres of fields along the bank of tidal Hog Bay Creek. The area is rural, and the view from the deck down over the fields to the marsh is beautiful.
In the spring, alewives run up the creek and osprey, eagles, and herons are a common sight. The fields are home to numerous birds including bluebirds, woodpeckers, yellow bellied northern flickers, yellow finches, etc.
The house sleeps eight comfortably, with a fold-out couch on the first floor for overflow, and a fold out cot and a pack and play available. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and a full bath. The first floor has a library with a queen bed, kitchen, dining/living room, and a full bath. There is a grill on the back deck.
Please review the Maine CDC website’s guidelines for travel to the state of Maine pertaining to COVID.

This part of Maine has many opportunities for hiking, boating, and biking in Acadia National Park (45 minute drive), on the Rails-to-Trails multi-use path that runs from Ellsworth to the Canadian border, and in the over 14,000-acre Donnell Pond Public Lands area that borders East Franklin. The Schoodic Peninsula (30 minute drive) offers stunning vistas as well and is a must-visit.
Bar Harbor is full of shops and restaurants, while Ellsworth (20 minute drive) is the nearby shopping hub. Basic groceries and necessities are available at the Franklin Trading Post 2 miles from the property.
The coast east from here is quiet and far less congested than mid-coast Maine. Have a secluded home base from which to launch your Maine explorations, and/or to have some quiet time away from the hustle.

We had a great week! The house is very comfortable and conveniently located to Bar Harbor and Acadia. I highly recommend staying here!

We totally loved our stay in Franklin. Very nice location to all parts of Acadia!

This house is set in a charming setting. Wild turkeys, creeks and birds surround you. Every place you look there is something to see. The house is beautiful. The host has thought of every detail down to labeling the remote controls. Kitchen is well stocked with everything you could possibly need for vacation. The property manager is wonderful. We arrived in a tropical storm and she had everything ready that we needed. It is exceptionally clean, the cleaning crew does a great job! This ‘family’ home is so inviting! We felt right at home all week. Couldn’t ask for more

This house is full of art, pottery, weavings, and a beautiful quilt. There were seven of us, and it was very comfortable and roomy. Lovely property and access to a lot of inland hikes and lakes for kayaking. The kitchen is well stocked for an array of meals. We loved it!

The location was wonderful. Away from the hustle of the city. Loved drinking coffee on the porch. The amenities were great.

From the moment we arrived we felt at home in this beautiful house filled with pottery paintings and rugs. We had a great time exploring the area. We visited Ellsworth, Acadia, Winter Harbor and Bar Harbor. Laurel is a wonderful host. We were able to buy some beautiful pottery next door and that will be a lasting reminder of our fantastic time!

Beautifully situated property near a salt water marsh. Spacious and inviting. Easily fit a large family or close friends. The view in the mornings is breathtaking. Perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee on the porch. Close to Ellsworth and Acadia for water and hiking activities.

Nice property as described. Plenty of space for 8 people, including a large dining table. The house is nicely stocked with basic necessities (some toiletries, any kitchenware you need and some pantry items). Quiet, beautiful area, but is almost an hour from Bar Harbor/Acadia. Be sure to bring bug spray as the area around the house has a lot of mosquitoes as well as places in the areas. There is no A/C, but nights get cool and each room has a fan, so sleeping was fairly comfortable. Internet was good and T-mobile had coverage on the vicinity of the house. Overall was a great place to stay and would recommend to anyone.

This was our second stay at Hog Bay which speaks volumes! It's a great base for exploring Acadia and beyond. Even if the weather limits getting out and about the house is such a clean and comfortable place to rest and relax and you can still get to see plenty of birds and wildlife from the deck and windows. The hosts are lovely and incredibly responsive and helpful. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. There was enough room for all seven of us to spread out. The kitchen was well stocked- I was able to bake bread which the kids enjoyed. Plus, everyone enjoyed observing the various birds that came to the bay.
It was about a 30-35 minute drive to Acadia National Park where we spent most of our time hiking and sight seeing. It was great to just come back "home" and relax after a day of adventure.
Thank you so much for opening your home to us!

What a perfect place for the six of us. The house is lovely, Laurel is a great host! The drive each day to and around the park was fantastic! Thanks for everything!!!

The house is very well cleaned and decorated. 4 large size bedrooms and nice beds. Location is fairly close to Acadia - only 40 mins drive. It’s on a beautiful lot. The ceramic dish set is pretty. The only downgrade is that there is no dishwasher but it didn’t bother us. We liked the owner’s suggestions and prompt response to our questions. It was very nice stay for 8 of us

The house is comfortable, beautiful and very well equipped. Easy trip to shopping in Ellsworth and about 30 minutes to the Schoodic section of Acadia, which is breathtaking. Laurel was helpful and responsive. All in all a wonderful experience.

The property is on a tidal inlet where, from the back deck with our morning coffee, we saw herons, bald eagles, and Canada geese. Wild turkeys in family groups came to the yard as well as a doe and fawn.
Raspberries on the yard bushes became ripe during our stay and my great nieces and I baked lots of muffins, raspberry crisps, clafoutis, shortcakes, etc in the well outfitted kitchen.
Laurel was very welcoming and friendly and responded quickly to our one little wrangle with a smoke alarm.
As I was in residence for a month, I enjoyed both the restfulness of the setting and the relatively easy access to both Acadia and activities in the opposite direction towards Ellsworth and beyond.
The house was comfortable and attractive with paintings and pottery by family members. Hog Bay pottery was a stone's throw away!
I highly recommend this house!
It felt very Maine - like!

It was a nice and quiet house, we really enjoyed our time there. We were able to see a handful of Eagles out back and a flock of turkeys in the side yard.

A wonderful stay at Hog Bay.
Had a wonderful stay at Hog Bay. The listing is very accurate and Laurel is a fabulous and very responsive host. The house is very clean, comfortable and well stocked along with many thoughtful touches. The location is similarly fabulous. It's peaceful with lovely water views and is great for bird watching. It's an easy drive and centrally located to Ellsworth, Schoodic and MDI.

Lovely property in a remote location
This home is lovely and well maintained. It is in a remote location -- at least from my point of view being an urban dweller -- but a manageable distance to Acadia and Bar Harbor.

Great place and friendly manager
We stayed at this house for one week. The manager is very kind and considerate. She reminded us before our travel that there was a tropic storm coming. We decided to postpone our travel one day due to her kind reminder. The communication is smooth and constant. The house is gorgeous, clean, and well organized. The decoration in the house has nice taste. Plates and bowls are just like art pieces. The house has WIFI. Many books. Many board games. Enough rooms for kids to relax and play games. Two full bath rooms. Accommodated 8 people party without problems.
The manager left notes on local attractions, lobster vendors, grocery stores, beyond Acadia. Pottery store besides the house is a must go. Franklin History Society is one step away. The community organized a yard sale over there during our stay. We picked up some souvenir. The house is in a remote area. Very safe. We watched shooting stars and Milk Way in the evening.
Manager is very friendly. Her daughter brought us a bowl of freshly picked green beans. Very delicious. Much better than those in supermarket. My daughter forgot her charger after we checked out. The manager found it while we were driving home and shipped it to us immediately.
A very pleasant experience. Will come back again.

Artful, Peaceful Home
This home is full of art and artful touches. It was just the right size and very homey. We loved coming back to this sanctuary after busy days. The setting is glorious and we loved our morning walks and visits from the turkeys.

This was our first Vrbo! My husband and I stayed with our two young kids (ages 1 and 3) for a week. The house is a bit out of the way, but that’s what we wanted! It was in a quiet neighborhood on a big, well-maintained property. The views were beautiful with the tidal creek and wildflowers! The house itself was just like it’s pictured, and incredibly clean and well stocked. It’s a family home, and it feels like it in the best way possible. Everyone slept comfortably. We spent a few days at local spots and drove to Acadia a few days as well. The host Laurel was accessible and helpful. My oldest was so sad to leave his “vacation house”. What a great experience, highly recommend!

We come from all over the country and gathered for a long awaited college reunion. We could not have been happier with this lovely house and gracious host. A lovingly furnished home of a family of artists, it was beautiful and welcoming. We had plenty of space and many thoughtful comforts provided. We could not rate this home higher, it was a perfect 10.

A beautiful house in a beautiful area. The house was so homey with beautiful artwork, pottery from the local potter and very comfortable. Close enough to head to Bar Harbor and Acadia Park daily, but if you decided not to head that way there were fun local things to do. We would highly recommend this property.

The area is close to Acadia. But even if you don’t go to Acadia each day, there’s lots of lakes and hikes in and around East Franklin to keep you busy! Thank you. We will always remember our wonderful experience in this house. We hope to be back!

This home is a beautiful and spacious home along a tidal creek. The wildlife in the huge and gorgeous backyard included families of turkeys, herons, and bald eagles. Inside the home, you will enjoy the beautiful artwork: paintings, all the handmade stoneware pottery you could ever want, and handwoven wall hangings. The artists' studios (Hog Bay Pottery and Susanne Grosjean Weaving) are next door. We enjoyed a personal demonstration of the potter, Charles. Grosjean, throwing bowls on his potter's wheel.
The property manager, Laurel, was very helpful in recommending activities in the area. She was very personable and did everything she could do to make sure our family was cared for in spite of some mishaps that were in no way her fault. (Follow the directions she sends in the email...not your GPS.)
We also enjoyed the beauty of Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor with daily expeditions to these areas. Overall, a very enjoyable time with my family!

Extremely well and thoughtfully equipped with everything needed including potteryware from family owned pottery shop within walking distance. The paintings, weaves and handmade furniture from family artisans are especially warm and interesting found in every room of the house.
