About this house rental
Charming 1800s family home. Cozy, comfy, off beaten path but very close to lots of things—15 min to Ellsworth, Acadia National Park starts at the top of the street and you’re surrounded-it’s all over (it encompasses Mt Desert Island, Bar Harbor & Winter Harbor). It’s about 20 min to Winter Harbor, Schoodic Point, Hancock Point, Lamoine, approx 20-25 min to Mt Desert Island & another 10 min from the beginning of the island- all depending on traffic- to Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain or the visitor center- so many cute places along the coast, tons of cute towns, art, antique shops along route 1...
This is an old house, not a fancy house, but to me & most people a very cozy & magical house.
I want to reiterate that this is our house, it is old, it’s quirky, we LOVE it but it’s not perfect in every single way. If you’re looking for perfect or modern please go to the the Ritz Carlton where you can expect perfection & demand a refund if you aren’t getting it.
I’m not striving for perfection here, my goal is a cozy, comfy, peaceful escape from the world. The windows are old held open by old fashioned window sticks & I don’t want to update them for convenience. I love the old windows, etc. I have a few fans & now 2 new air conditioners to use if you wish but the house is not a brand new, fully air- conditioned, modern house with every modern convenience. For me it’s about nature, simplicity, peace & quiet. If that’s what you’re looking for then you have found it.
However, the kitchen is fully stocked & very easy to cook in, there’s a microwave, toaster, blender, pretty much every device. There’s also Hulu, Netflix, Max PBS & Amazon Prime on both the upstairs & downstairs TVs. The kitchen & baths are updated & all appliances are new. Beds & bedding are new, clean & comfy.
*PETS* i don’t particularly want dogs in the house -as the homeowner as it’s more wear an tear, BUT I understand that we love our pet children & want them with us on vacation. There is an additional pet fee because I like to keep the house extremely clean & it takes my housecleaner a couple of more hours to clean after dogs have come. A few people have snuck in dogs & then I need to spend extra hours & money on cleaning which is not fair. I’ll send you double the cleaning bill if you choose to sneak your dog in without registering them & paying the pet fee which helps pay the cleaning bill & is also necessary for the insurance policy if your dog happens to destroy something. Please reg your pet & pay in advance. 🙏🏻 Or lmk you’ll be leaving check or cash in the cash box if you wish to avoid Vrbo taxes and fees.
Please don’t steal-Most people have been lovely but a few people think it’s OK to take whatever they want. those people were charged and the police were called. Please don’t do that. This is my home & I’m trying to make it nice for you. Im renting it out so my kids & I have the opportunity to keep my great-grandmother‘s house in the family. Please be gentle & thoughtful & be a good person.
* Please note there are 2 sets of stairs. Please only use the main stair case. Back stairs are for emergencies only -such as a fire *

I just read the negative review that was left before mine and am absolutely appalled! Everything I read was so innacurate compared to our experience.
We had the most wonderful visit at the most lovely house. You can really tell the owner cherishes this property and we felt honored to enjoy a bit of the homes history this week. The house is definitely dated, but that only added to the charm. It really did have all the modern amenities i could have asked for. The wifi was good, beds were comfy and the water pressure was pretty decent. The owner was a fantastic host who made this such an enjoyable stay. 10/10!

My friends and I were excited to stay in this charming home. Unfortunately, there were a few things and incidents that did leave a bit of a damper to our stay.
1) We were a group of 8 and there was only one shower that did not drain properly. We informed the owners about this and were told to use the Draino under the sink. We did, but it had no result. She informed us it always drains slow that’s just how it is. Luckily we had a friend who was willing to spend the time while on vacation to fish the drain and get another gallon of hair remover solution to clear the clog and fix it.
2) There are amenities shown on the listing page but when we arrived the place was not as advertised. The AC window unit was only for the first floor. At night, while the temperature is 60-70 the rooms can still get pretty hot and stuffy. We tried to open the windows, but several of the bug screens didn't fit, so we had to deal with mosquitos, spiders and moths. The space advertised that there was a grill on the premises, when we didn’t find one, we reached out to the host and were told that the grill was the little fire pit outside, the “front yard fireplace” as seen in the photos.
3) The kitchen utensils could use some updating. Many of the kitchen tools were very rusty and not safe to use. Others like the Keurig machine only worked when double the amount of water was used.
Overall, this is a cute/nice house but to use the house’s age as an excuse to these problems did leave us w/ a bad taste.

We had a lovely stay at this charming house! Holly was wonderfully responsive and informative. A great host! Thank you!

Good location for getting Out to Acadia, but expect a minimum of 30 - 40 minutes to most locations such as Cadillac Mountain, Acadia mountain, etc where we hiked. House was in a quiet neighborhood, enough space for everyone to rest comfortably after a long day of hiking. We really appreciated the insight into the area provided by Holly, particularly the Dunbar store, which was fantastic for everything we needed. Thanks!

Holly's home was cozy and served well as a base for a group of friends to explore Northern Maine. The beds were comfortable and the the rooms and home were clean. We did have two small issues while there. One was the fire and smoke alarms. Had batteries that needed replacement. We went and purchased new batteries for the smoke alarms that were chirping and woke up one of our guests. When we asked the owner for reimbursement for the $8, she did not provide any any which was frustrating considering we are performing maintenance on her property as guests.

Wonderful house on a quiet road off the beaten path. Worked well for going to the coast or in to Ellsworth.
Fun colorful touches throughout the house with the pans and appliances in the kitchen, nic nacs throughout the house, and generally cheerful sense to the house.
Very clean. Warm during the day and night without us changing any settings of the heat.
We were 2 couples, so one couple was in single beds, but that worked out fine in our group.
Would definitely stay here again!

We had an enjoyable short stay at this lovingly cared for older home. The owner communicated easily, regularly and clearly with us through the VRBO app. The home was well equipped, and had everything we needed.
The home is relatively close to Bar Harbor (about 35 minutes by car) and to Acadia National Park (roughly 40 minutes). Dining and shopping near the home are somewhat limited, although we did find some places we liked a lot.
We enjoyed exploring the towns of Ellsworth (20 minutes) and Hancock (15 minutes), which were both quaint, un crowded, and thoroughly tourist-friendly.

This place was a dream from the moment we booked. Everything went extremely smooth and there were no hiccups along the way. The home is everything and more! Old farmhouse charm with modern amenities! This home is extremely clean, and the decor is wonderful. Plenty of beds for your family and a ton of board games to entertain everyone. Finish off the night with a bonfire and s’mores! The neighbors were friendly and kind and our host Holly was the best!

The amenities were fantastic and the owner was very helpful and responsive. Also in a nice location in driving distance of Acadia.

The house was very cute. Kitchen was well stocked with coffee and snacks. There are more snacks that you can buy. One of the sweetest hosts that I have come across. Thank you for a fabulous stay!

It was everything we expected. It was quite and enough room for everyone comfortably.

The location is not convenient, almost one hour drive to the National Park. There were some of spiders by the bed side. Floor is unstable and noisy especially in the living room. The house needs TLC.

Holly's house was very quaint and served our group well, with more than enough beds and common areas. We were able to commute easily to Acadia while there.

Our family spent a weekend in this lovely Franklin home for a family birthday party. The house and grounds are beautiful and the location is quiet - but convenient to all the beauty, hiking, kayaking etc.. offered in the Acadia area, Beds were comfortable, communication with Holly was spot on and everything was as advertised. Looking forward to our next stay at our new home away from home as our daughter, son-in-law and grandaughter also live in Franklin. Thank you Holly!!!

The house is quite charming and we really appreciated the fact that it was truly a "home" and not a generically furnished rental. Holly was very communicative and I found her description quite an accurate one. Apple maps takes you to the other end of the road, so don't be surprised if you have to drive a few extra miles to find the address! Enjoy!

This renovated classic was perfect for our two day trip to Acadia National Park. There was Duncan’s nearby for groceries and a sandwich, and located close to Ellsworth for restaurants . It was about 45 minutes to the park but what a beautiful relaxing drive! The mattresses and pillows were great and we all slept like babies after our hikes, sight and lobster feasting! Stay here- you’ll have a good time!

We found the house super clean and well furnished. We loved the antique decor and found everything extremely comfortable in the home. The owner was super kind and helpful. Highly recommend this place,

Holly was an incredible host! She was so communicative and helpful when we had a problem with the hot water. Her house is charming and perfect for a friends trip. It’s very well equipped and has everything you could need. The beds were so comfortable and the decor was great. We loved staying here and would absolutely recommend it!

We loved staying at this home. It was spacious enough for our family of 7 and so comfortable and sweet! It was minutes from Tidal Falls which our family loved! We drove into Bar Harbor/Acadia several times and it was an easy drive. We loved our stay! Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Nice old house convenient to Acadia. Comfortable beds and clean place. The location is quiet and rural - a 20 minute drive to the nearest town. Be careful on the steep stairs.

I booked this property for our family of 7 while we visited Acadia. It was exactly as advertised. Clean, comfortable, and full of charm! We had everything we needed. Holly was very helpful with providing information about the area. I felt that it was a great location for exploring all the different parts of Acadia. If you are looking for comfortable home away from home, this is the place for you!

Maine Getaway
The house was charming. It had everything we needed. It was a good size for 4 adults and a toddler. The house is away from the busyness of the main tourist areas, which was peaceful and calm after sightseeing and such during the day. Holly was a great host, she communicated in a timely manner before our trip and during our stay. We only had one issue. The whole country was having a problem with a heat wave and so did Maine. There was a bit of an issue with the heaters on the first floor, but it got worked out. We were cool during the night, which is all that matters to me. I highly recommend this cottage for your Maine getaway!

Cute farmhouse
The property is just perfect! So much charm, lots of thought put into decorating, furniture arrangements and use of space. There were 6 of us, the youngest being 17 and there was more than enough space.
Holly was attentive to each email I sent before and during our stay (sorry for being a pest) and even got us in there a couple hours early.

Charming Farmhouse
I couldn’t be happier with my stay at this perfectly charming farmhouse. It slept 6 adults comfortably and had everything we needed and more. The decor was lovely. The house was close to Acadia and Barr Harbor so day trips were easy. We enjoyed this special property so much that we hope to come back.

Perfect Getaway for a Small Group
This was my second time using a rental property on a trip to Maine. Everything was exactly as described. We really enjoyed our stay. Nice comfortable farm house with all the amenities that you would need.
You can get to Bar Harbor in about 40 minutes and there are other nice quiet spots also within reach.
Highly recommended!

We really enjoyed our stay in Franklin. The house was great and with everything inside.
It's 30-40 min away from Acadia but perfect to rest after hiking.
Holly gave us a lot of information about groceries and restaurant around and was very reactive to answer our questions.

Beautiful old farmhouse in convenient location. Bedding was so comfortable and everything was clean! The home was so cute! Our only problem was the water. It had an odor and we didn't feel comfortable drinking it although it was probably safe. This home has everything you need and the owner was very responsive.

Yellow House
We really enjoyed our trip. We didn’t get to stay at the house very much because of so much time sightseeing! This house would be great for a family with kids. We had two couples and 2 single adults. One couple had to sleep in separate rooms. It wasn’t a big deal for us though.

A wonderful place to return to each evening after exploring Acadia National Park. The dining room table is a great place to play games. We enjoyed the character of the home and how it is decorated. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. The house is updated and still retains its original character. Holly provided timely communication. She shared recommendations with us on things to experience in the area. Her suggestion of visiting Winter Harbor was something we all enjoyed.
