A PLACE IN MIDDLEBURY’S HISTORY
The Middlebury Cottage was originally the home of Gene and Annette Lazurus. Lazurus Department Store was an anchor of the downtown Middlebury from the early 1900s. In August of 2021, the Town of Middlebury dedicated the new Lazurus Park in honor of the legacy of the Lazurus family and the many contributions they made to the community. We encourage you to walk the brick labyrinth that was created in the original location of the store just next to the Duclos Building (National Bank of Middlebury) as you walk down towards the Marbleworks.
Constructed in the 1940s, this home has been lovingly expanded and modernized but still captures the period arches and finishes, gable ceilings, craftsman molded windows, etc.
OUR ETHOS
We are passionate about living a conscious and holistic lifestyle, supporting local, and embracing sustainable environment practices. We hope you will enjoy some of the local products we showcase in our home and invite you to visit the artisans and small businesses we feature. Our family is also plant-based and can offer many of our favorite vegan discoveries in Middlebury and beyond.
LOCAL. You will find Middlebury’s Own Organic Vermont Soap, Lunaroma Pure Hand Crafted Botanical Body Care Products, Seventh Generation laundry & dish detergents.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY. We use non-toxic environmentally-friendly products. We strive to stay away from any chemicals in our home.
SOLAR POWERED. Our home has a 5 KW solar array to offset our energy usage. Plans are in the works to move towards net zero energy usage- meaning we will be able to power all the systems of the home from 100% clean renewable energy.
HEALTH CONSCIOUS. We use a high end three stage water filtration system for all your drinking and cooking needs. AND thanks to collaboration with THE GIVING FRIDGE (CareofVT.com) we have a number of oxygen-giving plants to provide clean indoor air.

I had a lovely stay in this tastefully appointed house.
Lisa was amazing with communication from the start.
The ease of booking and this wonderful home in quaint Middlebury exceeded my expectations. I plan to stay here again in just a few weeks. Can't wait!

Our party of six adults came to Vermont for the 4/8/24 eclipse and were fortunate to make this lovely cottage our home for three nights.
We have stayed at various rentals over the years and all agree: Midd Cottage is, by far, the very best place we have ever stayed!
The front door opens to an expansive, light-filled main floor with a huge comfortable couch, a dining room that seats 8, and a well-stocked kitchen with high-quality utensils for real cooking! The bedrooms (5!) are bright, airy and comfortable.
Every detail has been attended to: fluffy towels in abundance, yoga mats in each room, REAL plants throughout the house, and a welcome basket with local treats! All you have to do is unpack and relax! Downtown Middlebury is within a quick walk and there is much to see!
Lisa is a warm and gracious host. We would stay here again in a heartbeat! Don't think twice: just book it!!

My family and I (6 adults/teens and a French Bulldog) stayed at the property for a long weekend. It was the perfect location; close in proximity to restaurants, shops, a grocery store, and the hockey rink (we were there for a hockey tournament). The house was very spacious, well stocked, clean, and well maintained. Lisa was a fantastic host. She was very responsive and attentive. We had a last-minute change to the size of our party, and she graciously accommodated. I would definitely recommend this property for anybody looking in the area.

We had a fantastic stay in this beautiful, comfortable home. The owner has paid attention to every detail and is extremely helpful. We loved the location close to the TAM for dog walks and the Co-Op for last-minute ingredients and snacks. Would definitely stay here again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Midd Cottage. All the comforts of home and convenient location to town and campus will bring us back to this property. Also, the owner makes herself accessible should you have any questions or concerns. We didn’t but it was reassuring to know that she was only a phone call away.

We rented this cottage as a gathering spot for a long weekend reunion of young friends of ours and our daughter's and it was perfect for family meals (large kitchen, dining table for eight, and the coop and grocery a two minute walk). There was comfortable study nooks for everyone, plus five bedrooms, we could all be together or apart, play ping pong in the basement or sit in the chairs in the sun (we didn't jacuzzi, but there is one). It is a perfect place for friends and family to gather and be together and apart as needed and to enjoy preparing and eating family meals together in a location that makes access to hikes, stores, downtown Middlebury and the campus simple.

This beautiful and charming cottage was perfect in every way for our family. All amenities we needed were at our fingertips, and the check-in process was seamless. Professionally managed by Lisa every step of the way! The location is steps from campus and downtown Middlebury. Thank you Lisa for the joy and delight of staying in such a lovely home. Exceptional in every way. We can't wait to be back!
