The hotel is nice but lacks a few things such as robes and slippers. The staff is friendly & location is convenient for accessing downtown area.
2.5
I found this hotel charming, cool, and clean, and overall, it was just a great experience. My room was spacious and comfortable. The pool area was cool for a rogue 70-degree warmer winter day. The staff was super friendly, and with the low season rates, I'd say it certainly was a bang for my buck. 10/10 would recommend. I'm not sure why there are so many poor reviews; I thought this place fire.

The hotel charged parking fees for both rooms, even though I only had one car. Despite several emails and calls to address the issue, the hotel has not refunded the extra payment.
2.5
Such a charming spot, especially with great prices during the low season—though it can get a bit hectic in high season. The pool and hot tub are standout features, and the revamped dining room is a vibe.

Hotel was very nice and pretty. Will definitely stay here again.

Lovely property, great service, excellent restaurant. Lots more amenities than we could indulge in during our short stay. Planning to return.

Visiting Santa Cruz for a quick weekend. Our room needed a little tlc. The walls, ceiling and curtains needed some attention; repaint, clean and replace the ripped curtain. Beds were comfortable. Refillable water stations on each floor was great to have. There were a few events during our stay which made the bar/restaurant area busy and loud. The property of the hotel was very nice in design.

My room was next door to the in-house laundry machines. The washing machine ran nonstop until 11:00 PM. The room wasn’t that clean. Hair in the bathroom and trash on the floor in the bathroom. The room was also very run down. Lots of wear and tear. The wallpaper in the bathroom was actually stapled together.

Wonder and relaxing

The bed was not comfortable and the toilet kept messing up. Housekeeping has to be requested a day prior.

I have stayed at Hotel Paradox probably about 10 times over the past few years. The first time we stayed, we thought it was a very elegant hotel, each time since then the experience has been a little downgraded. They used to have robes for the guests to wear to the pool, they don’t anymore. Some of the lights in the room were not working right. The Pool area was rebuilt a few years ago, but they did a poor job with the lounge chairs. When the material was new, it looked fabulous now it looks stained and dirty. We still like the hotel And will probably stay there again, but it went from five stars to four stars for us.

Pros: I like the cool vibe and decor of this hotel. It has a great pool and in ground spa. Quiet.
Cons: needs upkeep and room quality doesn't feel congruent with the price you pay.

Always a comfort stay

In a rough neighbourhood and facility is old which needs some TLC.

Felt like a motel that had been cheaply renovated. The rooms were small, the restaurant food was not great. The pool was small and overcrowded.

Great room with amenities. Very nice and helpful staff. Always a great experience.

the hotel was pet friendly which is a plus since we were traveling with our dogs, but the service was minimal. The room wasn’t done cleaning by 4pm.

Pictures of rooms can be a little misleading…no balconies

The hotel is nice, but the sound of the lifts all night was bad. With two children it was a nightmare. The staff give us a refund as they knew it was a problem which they have every night!

Enjoyed the stay, nice room and pool area for family. Only complaint was a bad odor that seemed to be wafting into the room from the bathroom.

A good visit, we enjoyed the pool and the beds were comfortable however our bathroom was falling apart and needed some renovations. Felt expensive for the quality of the room. Location was decent but not walkable to boardwalk with small kids. Restaurant staff very nice and we enjoyed the food by the pool.

We were here at what is probably the busiest time of year, but the pool was packed, crowded, and noisy from 8am to 10pm. I could still hear kids running around noisily past 10:30pm. Rooms were not sound-proof. We were only here for one night while doing college tours, so it did not feel worth the price. I paid extra to get a hotel with a pool but it was so packed when we arrived that we never used it.

I hadn't been back to this hotel since the pandemic, but it was still a fun and cool place. I could see more wear and tear in the rooms, more than 5 years ago when I was last there, but the staff was young and helpful and the overall vibe was great

My family enjoyed lounging by the pool!

We love how pet friendly this property is! Our pooch joined us in our room, but also at the pool and restaurant. We also loved our meals at the hotel restaurant, both the indoor/poolside ambiance and delicious food and drinks!!

Nice place.

The pictures of the rooms were somewhat deceptive, but the pool and amenities were fun. Beds were comfortable and the bathroom and shower were great. Downside was the restaurant, the food was only ok -- the staff just ignored us when we tried to order. Great location in downtown Santa Cruz.

I must say that my experience was amazing because of the high level of attention from every single staff member . The focus on customer service from the moment we arrived through the entire stay was top notch . Every single employee was pleasant and accommodating. And the food was off the hook ! I will stay there again . No doubt ! Best experience I have had since pre pandemic ! Thank you all !

I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived to the hotel and first walked into the lobby. The lobby and restaurant area was very nicely done and inviting. The staff member that checked us in was very friendly and helpful. We ended up having a slight issue with our reservation but the staff member more than took care of us and made it right. The room was good although there were some damaged areas that hadn’t been repaired. Someone prior to us pulled the toilet paper holder out of the wall and there was a large gap between the tile and where the water filler for the bathtub was. This did not effect our stay but was noticeable. We had breakfast at the restaurant the next morning and it was delicious. The options were excellent and the taste was to die for. Overall we had a great stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone else loooijg.

Nice staff, and Nice hotel. If we should say anything bad it would be that there is a lot of kids in the pool but that only makes it good for familys

Great place, nice vibe. Everything clean. Bartender was excellent. Will stay again.

Potentially nice. However, too many inconveniences. The hot tube was out of order, the kitchen was only serving 5 items (limited menu), Elovators were either put-of-order or extremely slow.

Staff are friendly, helpful and genuine. Hotel is very nice and well decorated. It seems safe. Restaurant is good, lots of amenities.

This was my third stay at the Hotel Paradox but it will be my last.
Our room smelled like bad body odor, but we were not able to change rooms.
The pool was very nice, but the restaurant service was very poor. There was supposed to be a server taking orders at the pool, but they were so short staffed. I was told several times that people just don’t often show up for work. I had to go to the bar to order the food myself and then the orders would never be placed. It happened three times in three days. When the food did come, some items came an hour after other food items. I normally would’t say anything, but for $425 a night, a hotel should have impeccable service.
3.0
Nice pool but hot tub water was yellow and was crowded with adults. Food was delicious. Room walls not painted completely with ceiling peeling and bathroom was dirty. Towels were not cleaned and full of hair. Hallway floor to room broke and only had tape over it no hazard sign. Hurt my foot tripping over it couple of Times.
The bed was super comfortable though and got some great sleep because of it.
