The front desk doesn’t know what they are doing. We decided to stay here for the weekend just to relax. I was suppose to get an overnight parking pass when I checked in but didn’t. They don’t forget to charge you for it but may have over looked giving it to you. Then we decided to go out and my key pass doesn’t work on the gate. I had to park and go back to lobby. I see other guest in line for the same reason. Then after outing we get to our room to find out our keycard now doesn’t work on our room. By this time I’m over this place. Had to go back to lobby to recode my keycard. I now see why guests just use other means.

Really beautiful. I would stay there again

Hotel was nice and comfortable. Would have been nice to be offered choice of building as being far from the amenities was awkward for me.
Restaurant let us down - problems with breakfast (eggs were badly done, by the time they were recooked, rest of breakfast was cold). Offered a vague promise of discount at dinner, which we accepted. It was a 20% discount which was nice, but the menu was very limited and we didn't really like any of the items on offer that much.

View was great but restroom no good

First stay at Kona Kai had it's issues, but the property was great so we decided to give it a second chance and so glad we did. Wonderful staff and great property. Parking and resort fee's a little high but consistent with area.

There was dog feces in the room and even after all this time management is yet to contact me back with how we can handle the situation and all the money wasted after no other accomodations could be offered other than the restaurant credit. The food was cold soggy and not worth the money we would of paid without voucher. Still have to pay off the third party and not worth a single penny.

I loved this property! I would highly recommend and definitely would love to come back and stay here again. We had a short stay, we absolutely enjoyed every moment of it. We stayed in the junior suite in the new building with the view of the harbor and the boats. It was so beautiful during sunset and sunrise. The tub in between the shower and bed was great. We loved the service at the front desk. Amazing property with so many things to do! It was only a 10 min ride to DT San Diego as well!

Nice options for relaxing ( beach, pools) access to bike paths and wonderful rooms

The pools were not overcrowded and had plenty of seats. The pool temperature was lovely.
The beach area had plenty of lounge seats with tons of availability (although you cannot swim at the beach). The evening fire pits on the beach were lovely.
Some of the gym equipment was old and in need of repair. The staff were super friendly.

Excellent customer service! Zach at ck in was amazing. He sent complimentary champagne for my birthday and made me feel like a queen!
4.2
Beautiful property. Great staff. Walls are a little thin, and there isnt central air, but a window box unit. BUT although loud kept room cool!

Upon receiving our room we found an empty bottle under the bed and random pictures of someone above the bathroom door. The bathroom door was sheer glass and whenever someone went to the bathroom at night the light shined through the door and would wake up everyone sleeping. Said they would email me my receipt and yet to receive it.

I liked having all of the recreation, restaurant, and spa all in one place.

Our room had a few issues that took a few tries to fix but the manager gave us some credit for the hassle! So good responsiveness!

Everything was great only thing was .I was calling the front office for over an hour and they kept putting me on hold. Just had a simple question didn’t even give me the chance to ask really quickly before they say please hold.

Bug infestation at the resteraunt

Kona Kai is a beautiful property however I don’t think the hotel justifies the price. Our room was in a state of disarray, the bathroom sink faucet, shower “door”, and toilet were all broken. To pay a $50 a day resort fee, $45 a day for parking, extra for any water activities, and overpriced drinks at the bar, was not worth it for us. These fees along with other overpriced offers on site felt like the hotel was really nickel and diming you for everything. The price tag of the hotel comes from its location, if it were not for that, I would give it less stars.
The highlight for us was the bonfires they light each night on the beach. Luckily for us, we went mid-week and had no problem grabbing one.

Incredibly disappointed and upset about our stay. We decided to extend our stay in Southern California and picked San Diego and found this property on Expedia. For the rate we paid, the quality of the rooms were far below our expectation including stained carpets in the hallways, old furniture and a property badly in need of an upgrade. The main theme I want to get across is the extremely poor service in all areas of this property. The restaurant couldn't seat us with enough menus and acted annoyed when we simply asked for more menus. We left and made a point of not eating on property for the entirety of our stay. The Front Desk staff were impatient and rude when I asked for something basic like a new key. The staff person did not include a parking pass on the replacement key and blamed me for not asking for it. The in-house phone system stopped working so I got a text instructing me to use text for anything we needed. I used text and got no response. We had our beach fire turned off at 10 pm as per their policy but another group 'convinced' the staff person to allow them to keep their fire leaving us feel incredibly disappointed in the inconsistent and unprofessional service. See the theme? They are managing a team of staff members who cannot or will not provide basic service expected of the guests.

We loved the resort and our stay was awesome!! We would definitely stay there again!

Nice place

Very disappointed with this property
Room was dirty and dated for the money
4.2
Lovely quiet are to relax with the family. We really enjoy it. It’s an older property so still needs some improvements but overall great! Parking is way too expensive and the added resort fee sneaks up on you and bumps your actual cost by $90 per day.
4.2
Pools were nice and the courtyard area but rooms were horribly outdated and not very clean. We had cobwebs and dirt/hair on the floor. Had to clean myself. Bed and pillows were comfortable though. Overall not worth the money plus it is $45 a night for parking and $45 a day for resort fee.
4.2
Staff was very helpful and friendly. The cleaning crew did a nice job but the drapes were very dated, holes and even some blood like material on the curtain. Burn marks on the outside table and not much in the way of snacks or refreshment access. Overall a nice experience, just showing some age.

Was in bad shape and much older than pictures made it look
