Great location close to downtown Carmel and large comfortable rooms.

Nice room but too much traffic noice. We were in the annex across the street from the main complex.

Great location and staff. The continental breakfast in the picnic basket was a cute touch in the mornings. Rooms need to be updated as they are a little dated / musty.

Where to even begin! This was my sister and I's first ever trip to California and we chose this lodge because it's one of the less expensive accommodations in the area. It turned out to be the best decision we could have made!
Everything from the breakfast basket delivered to my door every morning with croissants, fresh fruit, and fruit juice, to the cozy and cute bathrobes, and happy hour wine and cheese made me feel very at home and cared for.
My sister and I shared a King Fireplace room which was plenty big enough, charming, and most importantly VERY clean. There's no AC but there is a fan and windows that open which we found sufficient. Our room had a small kitchen nook with a nice mini fridge that was actually cold enough to store even frozen food. We also got plenty of use out of the Keurig.
There's a beautiful balcony with an ocean view that's open for all guests to enjoy, plenty of parking (a must in Carmel), and a beautiful courtyard with a hot tub, which my sister and I got plenty of use out of.
Lastly, the location! The lodge is just far enough away from downtown to feel peaceful on the weekends but still close enough to walk to restaurants, cafes, and shopping. Just be prepared to walk uphill and downhill on cobbly streets, as Carmel is very hilly and the sidewalks are mostly uneven stone.
I would recommend this stay to anyone thinking of visiting Cali. Thank you so much Horizon Inn for making me feel like a princess!

No elevator. Stairs hard to climb for senior citizens

This property far surpassed my expectations. I actually had a horrible incident passing out and having to get 4 stitches, which should have in theory ruined our trip to Carmel, but this Inn was PERFECT for relaxing in this quaint town. They delivered a picnic breakfast to our door every morning AND provided a free happy hour with snacks and wine to enjoy while sitting out by the fire pits or in the jacuzzi. The staff was amazing and very attentive to our needs. & we enjoyed having free Kuerig coffee in our room daily! If there are rooms available, definitely book!!

Greetings at front desk was overwhelmingly kind and hospitable!

The continental breakfast was delivered to your room. This is an innovative way to manage breakfast rather than going to a breakfast room.

Wonderful experience. Hector at the front desk was welcoming and helpful. Will definitely stay there again next year.

A gem. Wonderful rooms with gas fireplaces. Really comfortable beds & bedding. Great outdoor space for socializing by an outdoor fireplace and fire pit. And it was easy to walk to restaurants and through charming neighborhoods. Would stay here again next time.

Amazing inn to stay for a weekend while visiting the Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur area.

We called the hotel before we booked as the room was over $400. per night and the way the listing read we wanted to make sure what the room would be. It was listed as an ocean view with fireplace and double room. The gentleman who answered on our inquiry said yes the room we described is what we would receive if booked with them. We arrived at the Horizon Inn the room was musty, no extra room or fireplace, the carpet was old and wrinkled, the bed was very uncomfortable and had a piece of 3 inch foam on top of the old mattress, the bedding was worn and old, the furniture was old. My husband went down and talked with the front desk and was told the room we booked was a premium room and the second room is the bathroom. The ocean view with fireplace and extra room would be a suite. This hotel is not worth the money they charge.

The location in Carmen is very comfortable, but for the price we paid the beds were very bad and I find unethic to sell a night for 4 adults with a sofa (often in USA), in this case we paid more then 700 euros and olso the real bed was uncomfortable. Breakfast terrible.

Although the decor is dated, the property location is excellent. Rooms were cleaned well everyday and the daily breakfast basket was great (usually a baked item, juice, yogurt/fruit and cereal/milk). Office staff are pleasant and professional.
Would stay here again.

Perfect spot — walkable, close to restaurants, clean, well-appointed room with a great bed, super-nice folks at the counter. Great stay. Would definitely do it again when I’m back with family.

It was nice. The location of the hotel is excellent. It's on top of the hill and away from all the noises, but just two blocks away from everything. Hotel staffs are friendly and welcoming.

The worst part of Horizon Inn was the smell in the interior of the hotel. It smelled like a old dank basement. The room furnishings felt like a so-so motel. The bed had only two gigantic pillows that were not usable for sleeping and two rather small ones. There were two of us, so we had to make do with the two small ones.

It felt like "bait and switch" regarding the room. First room offered was clean but smelled badly, it seems that it was a pet friendly and I am allergic to pets. I asked for another room and was made to pay additional $money to get a clean and safe room for me. The clerk had a take or leave attitude and I was told if I left without staying I would be charged for the room any way. Clerk kept referring that I booked thru a third party and there wasn't much she could do. Sadly, I will not be using Expedia in the future for my travel needs.

The property was very nice. We had a room with a balcony. The room itself could use some updating. It was very old. Besides that we were happy with our big size room and balcony. We also were not given water and we’re asked only given cups to refill at this station at the main lobby. The location is good but it is about a 8-10 minute walk from shops and restaurants.

We switched to a ground floor room that had amazing views. The room was large and patio was very relaxing. Didn’t use the jacuzzi, but loved the fireplace.

Internet was VERY slow and sometimes didn't work at all. The breakfasts were nice. There is no pay-per-view T.V.; just cable.

First, Hotels.com should not list this one-bedroom suite as a "Family Cabin". It is NOT a cabin, but the listing led us to believe it would be separate from other accommodations. Instead, it is attached to other suites, and noise can be heard from guests in other suites (including vibrating fans, slamming doors, yelling and screaming children and barking dogs, because this is a "dog friendly" inn).
While Carmel is charming, the street noise in the suite can be extreme. We heard loud buses, motorcycles, trucks and construction immediately outside our windows. Most of the noise we tried to ignore when we were trying to relax in the suite because we needed to keep windows open for good air circulation to cool the rooms (and fortunately the air was mostly clean and refreshing). But sometimes it was too much noise and we needed to close windows, which definitely blocked out a lot of the noise.
The staff were invariably pleasant and helpful. The continental breakfasts delivered to the door in picnic baskets were a nice touch. The Jacuzzi in the suite was a great amenity. And the free and mostly adjacent parking was very convenient.

Adorable property - completely exceeded our expectations with tasteful decoration and thought ful touches like a working fireplace already laid and ready to light; breakfast delivered each morning in a picnic basket left at the door, and helpful accommodations. We were in one their larger suite rooms - highly recommend. Location also good - near everything but away from any fuss. Terrific base for exploring Big Sur.
