It's really beautiful and classy. The room is cozy with a fireplace and the dining service is excellent.

We experienced a mix bag. The waitstaff was excellent, the food was very good. The condition of the building was rough in areas. The view out one window of our room was of the water--beautiful! Out another window was a roof repair that had been half-completed and all the construction debris left. The exterior of the building was needing TLC as were the gardens. The check in staff was lacking in training as was the spa staff.

Quiteness was what we liked the most
One day the room was not cleaned until we asked for it at the end of the day.

Magical! Hastings House offers the most stunning setting for walks, drinks and dinner. The suites are unique and luxurious with beautiful views. Service was outstanding and what a treat to find warm, fresh-baked muffins at your door in the morning. Enjoyed fabulous massages at the spa. A quick and lovely walk to Ganges shops.

Hastings house is a beautiful property but feels a tiny bit dated. I would stay there again because it’s the nicest hotel on salt spring island but the rooms while comfortable could do with a refresh

Just a nice cozy place for a getaway for a few days. Dining is top of class.

Supper nice, friendly and polite staff, easy check-in, our suite was available and we had an early check-in, such beautiful suites with highest quality furniture overlooking the marina, a very nice garden, delicious breakfast, they also deliver warm fresh out of oven to your room before you wake up, ….

While the property is like a quaint country side with lots of flowers and meadows, the facilities themselves were like a step up from camping. We stayed in a suite with a nice peekaboo view however, the room was not cleaned even once in the 4 days we stayed. We asked numerous times to have it cleaned to come back to it in the same state. Our plumbing went at one point and they gave us another room (which was still dirty from the last guest) to use the washrooms. When we came back to our room, all of our soap was gone and toilet not fixed. There were large ants all over the room and the "warm muffins" they say they leave you in a basket were mini bite sized snacks left in a soggy paper bag that you got lunches in back in the 80's. It felt like a pity muffin. The "4-diamond" restaurant was more like a 1-pebble with an extremely overpriced menu for subpar service. Do not recommend.

Hastings House is a beautiful property. The only hiccup was the TV in our room wasn’t working due to a faulty cable box. Unfortunately the cable box could not be switched out. The only available rooms had not been cleaned. We were told this right after we checked in, as we checked out the TV right away. Fortunately the Manager (Allan), made everything right and arranged for another room to be cleaned prepared for us. It was ready by the time we finished dinner. We were also upgraded to one of the newer air conditioned units; which was greatly appreciated as this was during a heatwave. The staff are all very efficient and helpful. A Fantastic place to stay!

Gorgeous property. We stayed at one of the Hillside suites and the setup and amenities are very nice. The real disappointment is the restaurant. The menu reads like it hasn’t been changed in decades (think escargot). In the right hands old fashioned can be amazing but unfortunately, there is no finesse to the food, which at the price point is really unforgivable. For example the scallops and prawns - served with a heaping pile of bland caesar salad and the kind of overly salted matchstick fries that were really trendy in the 90’s. Why? Other dishes though less mysterious in their design were also disappointing. It’s a shame because the grounds are serene and well kept.

This hotel is in a great location with a lovely garden. It is definitely not the standard of a Relais & Chateau however. The restaurant and food were deplorable. The menu seems not to have changed since the 1980s. Presentation wasn’t interesting. Lamb special was chewy with a salty sauce and overcooked broccoli. Salad had far too much oil and was served on a plate too tiny for the whole pieces of lettuce. Prawn avocado salad was served on a warm plate swimming with a sauce that was far too spicy. The value was not there considering the high prices. And that was just dinner in the fine dining room. Breakfast was not good either and service was sadly lacking. We understand these are challenging times but when you pay that much, you deserve better! The room we had called Manor East is right over the kitchen and very noisy in the morning. Don’t book it unless you want to be woken at 6:30 a.m. The things we did like were lots of big fluffy towels and pillows. We enjoyed walking around the gardens and being close to Moby’s where the food is good for the price. We booked Hastings House thinking it would be like the manor houses we stayed at in the Cotswolds, UK and other Relais &Chateau hotels but it was nowhere close to them. Overall it was disappointing, especially as it was to celebrate an important anniversary.

Cute country cottage styled suite built into the hillside. Minimal view of marina through trees from my lower suite which was beside the Moby pub and I like the Afternoon music from there. The grounds are nice And the restaurant breakfast was great. The gentleman server and younger lady servers very nice.Overall pleasant stay but expensive for no amenities. Massage was decent but also very pricey for zero amenities.

We first stayed at Hastings House thirty years ago and were happy to return. The property is one of the most beautiful on the island with views of the harbor, forest, and gardens. The Hayloft room in the barn was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. The vase of fresh flowers from the garden was artfully composed. All the staff we met were polite and helpful. I had a collection of shade plants that Id bought at one of the island nurseries and didnt want to leave them to overheat in the car, so Kynan kindly brought me a large plastic tub to store them in and a hose so I could water them. Then he placed a fragile sign on them and tucked them behind the shed out of the sun and wind. Nice! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner in the restaurant, afternoon tea, and delicious breakfasts. Our meals were decorated with fresh flowers from the garden and prepared with fresh, local ingredients. Delicious! The hotel is just a few minutes drive from the Long Harbour ferry and just a few minutes from Ganges, the nearby small town with lots of restaurants, art galleries, book stores, and other shops. The buildings at Hastings House are charming and beautifully kept up. I will long remember the lovely flower beds around the buildings and the gorgeous views through the leaded glass panes to the boats in the harbor below. Its expensive, but worth it for a special treat.

Hastings house was wonderful! We love the English Manor architecture of the dinning room. Really beautiful and quaint.
The Cabins were nice with ocean view. But I feel the interior of the suite needs update for the price point we pay for. Other than that everything was wonderful! Love the muffin basket in the mornings!

Fantastic hotel run by wonderful people. Only one night felt like a week off, so relaxing!

Enjoyed our stay at Hastings House. A great base for enjoying Salt Spring Island. The west manor suite was more room than we needed for just the two of us and although thoroughly charming could benefit from some updating. The view of Ganges Harbor was lovely. The breakfasts and tea service were great and we had a delicious dinner in the bistro.

First time at this establishment and we were presently suprised with all aspects of our stay! All staff members were very helpful with assisting with any of our questions or requests. Rooms were very comfortable & clean plus the Bistro was well worth the experience. Your morning breakfast is included with the stay plus the staff members are excellent!

The setting is fantastic, the old country inn charming, and the staff very attentive. Our only complaint was the condition of the room. While clean, it needed updating. Very 80's plumbing and decor, and our coffeemaker was broken and not repaired after the 2nd night. The manager adjusted our bill, without asking, which showed class, but still, at over $400 a night, the issue should have never happened. Overall, something special and worth a one time visit.

Magnificent property, beautiful countryside, awesome service. Wish I could afford to stay there high season.

This is a beautiful, peaceful place to visit for relaxation and refreshment. I visited in early December and still the gardens and everything about the place was wonderful. Falling asleep to firelight dancing on the ceiling is a treat as was the lovely breakfast provided by Michael. I'll definitely be going back every chance I get.
