Read the reviews all the stairs to climb but it wasn’t bad at all. It’s a very old hotel and had a great amount of character.

Old hotel - a maze of stairs and halls to find your room. Furnishings very dated

This very historic property is a treat. The location is perfect, steps from the main intersection of Kilkenny centre but removed enough to be quiet and feel private. So convenient to every attraction and dining/pub venue, so no car needed. Staff were amazing - every person we met was graciously friendly and helpful. Our room was everything we needed and nicely appointed modern bath.

Fantastic location and lovely staff. Oldest hotel in Kilkenny so an historical gem. Is slowly being renovated and really needs it. No lift

Very old hotel that BADLY need a lot of renovation. Especially the rooms! Downstairs the breakfast room is ok. Employees were nice though!

Property was quaint and charming, located conveniently within easy walking distance of Kilkenny Castle and almost all of the other local attractions. Free breakfast was great and staff was friendly and courteous.

Great breakfast, comfortable pillows and hot shower. Lots of steps to get to the room

Had to walk thru restaurant to check in which was upstairs and no elevator. Dark walls, filthy carpet in halls. Maze to get to room. Faucets at sink didnt work, shower door wouldnt close, hairdryer didnt work. Room was clean and bed comfortable though. Terrible directions to back of hotel parking. Would not recommend.

Very central and comfortable. Lots of stairs so not for anyone with mobility issues.

The oldest hotel that is really overpriced for what you get. Barely 3 star amenities. Rooms sparse and lacking much more than a motel 6. Still charming breakfast area and staff was alright.

The staff, bar and restaurant were fine. Hallways narrow, rugs shabby. Bathroom needs a total renovation. You heard everyone in the halls and nearby rooms, generally noisy. Not recommended…

What was good: Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was hearty and delicious. Great location in the heart of Kilkenny. Not so good: Like many older hotels in Europe, this hotel has no elevator, which we did not know until we climbed the 57 steps from the car park to our room with our heavy bags. No assistance was ever offered to us upon check in. We had no hot water for several hours on the morning of checkout, although after we complained, it was ultimately restored and we were given a small reduction in the room rate. Be sure to ask for a lower floor if you have any orthopedic issues.

The only complaint that I had about the Club House was that I reserved a double bed and got two twins instead. And when I asked for the room I'd reserved I was told they were all full and they might be able to get me into another room the next day. I'm a bigger guy, a twin bed was ok the first night because I was exhausted from jetlag, but the rest of the trip (in a twin bed) made for uncomfortable nights.

Awesome cute old property! Feels like we were in Clue. Free breakfast. Kind staff. A maze of rooms. Bathtub.

There were lots of nice people. The staff in the breakfast room were nice, as was Deidre in management. However, upon arrival the room smelled so badly of bleach that for the duration of the entire stay we had to leave the window open. There were six flights of stairs we had to take before getting to our room. What really stood out to us was the excellent breakfast.

All of the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. The food was tasty and the Irish soda bread delicious. One small caveat: there was an issue with the ceiling light in the bathroom and one of the wall sconces over the mirror was not functioning. I reported it twice. I hope it gets repaired. That was the only annoyance.

Very poor quality accommodation. The room was tatty, and small with a low quality bathroom. The accommodation has clearly not been maintained and the sink was chipped. Furniture tatty and carpets worn. Really not up to standard for a hotel and have stayed in far nicer B&Bs. The staff however were pleasant.

Wow, Kilkenny is such a beautiful town. We only stayed one night but wish we had stayed for more. The hotel had amazing food, the staff was lovely, and the maze of hallways sent us back in time. The bar had live music making the unexpected stop in Kilkenny well worth the trip. We will stay here again!

The location is perfect for walking to everything. The staff is really great. The restaurant has great food and staff. Lots of parking in the back. My only complaint is that the bathroom could use some upgrades.

Very pleasant staff who would like to make your stay confortable. We had asked to have an early breakfast and they have agreed without hesitation and made it happen. Very client focused and great service. The location is perfect and the facilities have a long history which makes the stay more interesting.

Beautiful but old.
Old but beautiful.
Better directions along the hallways to rooms would be a big help!!

Very old but interesting hotel with long winding hallways that added to the quirkiness of the hotel. We had a renovated room that was very nice. W

Great location in the heart of Kilkenny and next to Kilkenny Castle. Restaurants, shops, and bars were all walkable and there's a bar/restaurant downstairs if you want to stay indoors. The staff were friendly/helpful and the check-in was painless. There is a large secure parking lot behind the property. Check-in early to guarantee yourself a parking spot; it filled up quickly during my stay. The room was spacious for a solo traveler and it was well-kempt. The layout and amenities in the room did feel outdated, but there were outlets and the bed was comfortable. For the price and location, it was a fine place for a one-night stay.

Great property with its own carpark. right next to city center but still very quiet. Note there is no lift (elevator) so you may have a few stairs to navigate. Staff will assist if needed. Mini Irish breakfast was great. Would recommend

Fun and unique property! The maze and quantity of stairs to get to our room was memorable and tiring. All the stairs made it a struggle for my mom. The breakfast was excellent!

The room was filthy. Although you and Rick Steve’s travel guides both gave it good reviews we were very disappointed and actually didn’t sleep in the room. Our room was in a 1960s addition and felt like a dorm room. The Tv was a computer screen and did not work. The remote control was filthy. No elevator no lights in the stairwell. No parking initially. We went out for drinks and dinner and found one when we came back but neither of us could bring ourselves to sleep in the beds. One flat pillow and dirty decorative pillow on each bed. Awful We tried two other hotels nearby who said this was a normal occurrence, people make reservations, see the rooms and then look for lodging elsewhere. We ended up across the street at the Pembroke where we stayed for 50 euro more in a king sized bed with air conditioning and a 5 star breakfast. To their credit they did refund us the 150 we paid for the room.
