Nice staff. Clean.

How often do you get to stay in a hotel in a building started in the 1200's. The place was obviously quirky but that is what you would expect. However, everything worked and the staff were great.

This is a basic hotel with a good bed, clean room and a great shower. It's also right in the heart of Siena and the staff are wonderful. The breakfast is not lavish but more than adequate (coffee, croissant, butter, jam). It is very cheap for what you get and I loved staying there.

Good hotel, great location, no lift to my knowledge (but could be wrong), nice spacious room, plug by bed was either a Type E or type M though - the only European plug socket in the room was on the other side of the room. Lovely staff, great view of the town. Wool blankets slightly uncomfortable but ok.

Pros: great location, just a couple of blocks from bus station, main plaza, grocery store, deli with great pizza by the slice, excellent gelato shop. Cons: Shabby and dirty. Bits of stuff on the floor from last guests, sheets had some kind of lint/debris on them. Part of the shower stall was taped together. Very noisy, with partiers making noise all night and I could hear the guy in the next room snoring during the night (as if he was right in my room). I just put up with it because of the great location and the fact that I was only there a couple of days. Next time, I would spend a little more money for a better place.

Located in historic district of Siena. This location from all sites and activities was very good. Gets very loud on Saturday night. Breakfast is very basic.

Hotel appears very clean but we had to choose between a room that smelled of stale cigarette smoke and another that had excess bleach odor to mask mildew odor. Hallways were fine. Previous night was full due to an holiday. Breakfast is bread/jam or cereal/milk and coffee. Overall, its okay but I would stay somewhere else next time.

Cannon d'oro has an excellent location. It is an old hotel, so the rooms are not the most modern. The thing that disturbed us the most was the noise we heard from the corridors, it was very loud since the soundproofs are non-existent. Thus, if you are a light sleeper, this may not be your choice! However, we enjoyed our stay at the hotel, mostly because of the location and breakfast.

wifi is not working in the lasts rooms; of course this is not something new or an issue they werent aware of; so the hostal should guarantee the same services for all the rooms.

Last minute booking found us at Canon d'oro in the heart of historical area of Siena. The rooms are basic but very clean. The breakfast was pretty basic. Croissants came out of a plastic bag so that wasn't so great but did the job. For one night this hotel met our needs.

Stayed at the Cannon one night on the way from Florence to Rome with the family. In retrospect should have done Siena as a day trip from Florence, much as I love Siena (I excavated at an archaeological site near Siena in 1977). The Cannon room and bath were basically ok, just old and hardly worth the cost.

The hotel is very well located. The staff was friendly and efficient.Tv un the room did not work, but I was not counting on that. It got a bit cold at night but the staff explained they were not allowed to turn the heating on at night before the end of the month ( apparently there's some sort of regulation), but it's Italy so never too cold.Breakfast was simple but coffee was good.Would recommend for short budget stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cannon dOro and recommend it to anyone who wants to stay inside the traffic-free section of Siena. The location, relative to Piazza del Campo, is superb, only about a 5 minute walk. Although the street below the hotel can get a bit noisy at times, due to night time revelers, we didnt mind and viewed it as something of a cultural bonus. We have been to Siena three times and will definitely look into staying at the Cannon dOro, if were fortunate enough to have a fourth trip.

We spent a sleepless night here in August. It was very hot in Italy these days. There was no AC in the hotel and our room was facing the street. In order to get some air we had to open the window. The street is narrow, busy, noisy, everything around is stone and one could hear the echo of people walking, talking, laughing and shouting until 3-4 am as if it was up in the room. There was something like a TV/monitor? in the room which didnt work. The breakfast was ridiculous: instant coffee, packaged pastries and cheap cereal. The room was clean and the linens were immaculate.Overall, for the price we paid, we could have found a better place.

Very much in the centre of action - perfect location and very good value

VERY loud room... we were unable to sleep because people were yelling and singing outside our window until almost 5am. The room itself is very bare and basic. There is paint peeling in the bathroom and the shower is over the toilet. There is a ceiling fan but it made such a squeeking noise that we could not use it. The breawkfast was cereal and packaged pastries only. There was also only one outlet in the entire room, which makes charging tough. The hotel needs to be upgraded and we found a nicer place for a similar price down the street. Great location in the heart of Siena and very nice staff.

Hotel was beautifully situated at the edge of the old city only a 5 minute walk to Piazza Del Campo and the Duoma. The hotel staff were friendly and knowledgeable and directed us to the sites and to the food establishments. Room was comfortable and uniquely old and enjoyable. Breakfast and parking although both available were the only weak points. Wonderful stay and great value.

Basic hotel, great location in middle of Siena. We had a quad room, 4 single beds. Room was very spartan, but clean.

Hotel was ok but not quaint as you may expect in a city like this. Great location. Worst parking (15 min walk away) ever.

I ordered on Expedia 2 nights, and Expedia promised a discount for the third night. However, in the hotel I had to pay the same price for the third night, which is disappointing.Another thing: the street is Very Noisy in night. You open windows and enjoy yelling, screaming etc.The bathroom is relatively small and the bidet there is an obstacle, not an advantage. Generally, bidets is tiny bathrooms is a crazy Italian standard.

Location, location, location. This hotel is smack in the heart of Siena, nothing could be simpler. IIt is within walking distance to the bus stops-which is the only way my son andI will travel in Italy now, as the trains are unreliable, learned the hard way. Breakfast is modest but at the fabulously affordable budget hotel prices in the peak of high season, honestly, one cannot moan even if breakfast is NOT included. It's a basic cold continental breakfast.
Siena is a mid-evil town and almost all the buildings are very old. The only fault would be the lack of budget to upkeep the hotel. Our toilet cistern was limping on it's last legs and desperately need a replacement. The much needed ceiling fan creek as it spun every 5 minutes but the hotel staff readily gave us a wonderful portable one that worked brilliantly Furniture is nothing fancy and outdated. However, we saw maids thoroughly cleaning each room daily without shortcuts.
Staff was excellent, helpful and knowledge and fluent in many languages. Both my finicky 16 year old son and myself was very pleased with this hotel overall and would stay there again without a second thought as the location, price and the staff made up for the lack of the other conveniences. BTW, Siena is so gorgeous, who'd want to stay in a hotel all day anyway.
