I booked my stay mostly on the rating of reviewers. I had several problems. There is a dog in a yard right outside my room. I was awakened at 1, 2, and even 4 a.m. by the dog barking. The room was also very cold. It had a space heater but, at night, the heater could not keep up with the cold temps outside. The bathroom sink had no hot water faucet. Only cold water there. The shower did have hot water. There were a few other negative things as well. I want to be clear that I am not a 'picky' person who demands that every hotel have 5 star service. I do not want to be pampered but I do need a minimum of comfort in the room. I have traveled all over the world and have stayed in many hotels from inexpensive to very expensive. To be fair, the hotel did provide a good breakfast and the hosts are very nice. When I told them of my two major complaints (barking dog and cold room) they offered to move me to a room directly above mine but that room has the same issues. I stayed there two nights out of the four that I had booked with them. I told them I had to leave because of the dog noise and the cold room being uncomfortable. I left it up to them to decide if they wanted to refund me for the two days I did not stay there. No refund was given.

My daughter and I were booked for one night at Kathmandu Sunny Hotel prior to leaving Nepal. Unfortunately, she got very sick the night prior to our arrival at the hotel, and continued to be quite sick in the morning. I went out early in the morning and the proprietor directed me to the nearest pharmacy. Later in the morning, they called the room and asked what time we would be taking breakfast. When I said we would not be eating because of my daughter's illness, they offered us late checkout at no fee so she could rest until we had to leave for our flight. When we came to the lobby later in the afternoon, they brought us warm water and expressed genuine concern for our well-being. I learned that this is a small, family-run business, and they seem to extend that sense of family to their guests. The room rate was excellent--it was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The wall unit for heat/AC was very helpful since my daughter wasn't well, and it was the best hot shower I had in our stay in Nepal. Even the wifi connection was better than a much more expensive hotel we had booked at the beginning of our stay. Although we did not get out to see much in the surrounding area, the location is also excellent, in easy walking distance to many attractions and shopping, while also far enough off the main roads to be quiet even during the day. If you are looking for an affordable, comfortable hotel with staff who will attend to your needs, this is the place!
