What a lovely stay in an incredibly peaceful and beautiful location. Everything you need and more if you’re up for a rustic and simple setup. Our stay was an absolute delight and our host was wonderful.

This is such a special place with easy access to the water for kayaking and exploring. Great walking trail to Harriman Point nearby. We had a fire in the fireplace one rainy/chilly night and it was so comfortable inside. Beds are comfortable, too. We will definitely be visiting again.

Wawenock suits our family just perfectly. Excellent kayaking, beach-combing, exploring on the islands and in the water at low tide, fireplace fires at night, lots of reading spots…
Craig is a very attentive host whose love for the place shines through!

The cabin is exactly as the pictures show. Our week was damp and foggy, so it was damp and cool inside - as there is no insulation inside the cabin.

The property and beach were absolutely beautiful! Everything was so comfortable and just what we wanted in a trip to Maine!

The rental process is seamless, get the key code and walk into the sweetest place anyone could ask for. The biggest problem is you will not want to leave to do anything else. Move from the porch in the morning to the beach, back to lunch, and repeat. You wake up to the crows and lobster boats, while living in a book lined museum. I loved it.

Awesome location
My wife and I styed here in July of 2022. This house sits on an amazing piece of land, the views from the slabs of granite are breathtaking! After 10:00 all you could hear is the waves except for one evening there was some loud people a few houses down. I especially enjoyed learning about the tide and how different the landscape looks in low tide vs. high tide. The lobster boats were fun to watch and listen to as they made their way to the traps.
Now for the house itself, it is old and has many cool antiques. I have to say it is not particularly comfortable, beds are small, windows need to be better with better screens and the furniture is nothing great. The fact their was no TV was a plus for me. In the listing there are no photos of the bathrooms so let me describe them. The main bath is very small. You could literally sit on the toilet and wash your hands at the same time! The shower was so small I dreaded using it. It is a corner style shower that an average weight adult can fit into but that's it, very hard to wash your feet. The second floor bath is much nicer but it only has a toilet and sink.
The kitchen is also very small. Yes they have plenty of pans and utensils but there is only room for one person to work. And the burners on the stove are not level. Every time I went to make an omelet the eggs would run to one side of the pan. We did not use the kitchen too much as we wanted to dine out anyway. The charcoal grill was like every VRBO grill I have used, dirty. I was able to clean it up enough to use it. The vents were rusted shut and the grill grate needs replacing.
The best part of the house is the back porch. We really enjoyed sitting out there in the morning with coffee watching the lobster boats. And I really enjoyed the peaceful evenings , mosquitos were an issue at times but there were lots of candles and torches to help deter them.
Overall I loved our stay based on the porch and the granite slabs down by the water ( I played my guitar down there every night) the house not so much.
This property is located in what I call a rural area, kind of a long drive to Blue Hill in my opinion but I knew it would be. Its location is great for exploring the small towns nearby and Deer Isle but not a bad drive to Acadia National Park ( 90 minutes). I highly recommend Acadia but also enjoyed local hikes like the 100 Acre woods.

This is Why We Visit Maine
Wawenock Cottage is exactly what we look for in a Maine vacation: access to the water, a great view, dark skies (great for stargazing), super location, and quiet--both atmospheric and electronic. The history of Wawenock Cottage is also a selling point for us. We love the shelves and shelves of books and magazines from the 1800s to the present! The rustic cabin is perfect for late June trips--the weather is cool and breezy, and no air conditioner is necessary. As a matter of fact, a few evening fires in the terrific fireplace are the norm!
The short drive to Blue Hill (and even shorter drive to the Brooklin "town center") means that great food, shopping, and entertainment are nearby.
Wawenock is not fancy, but that's what makes it perfect. The creaking wicker chairs, tiny (but amazingly well-stocked) kitchen, cozy wool blankets, and family art and artifacts make it feel like home every time we visit. We just returned from a visit, and we're already looking forward to another!
Oh, and let's not forget the owner, caretaker, and cleaner. They are all great! Cheryl is an amazing owner who is a great communicator and easily accessible--she even checked in on us while she was overseas! The local caretaker is just next door, and he's very kind and helpful, and the cleaner does a great job of making the place feel great upon arrival.

Amazing location
We had a great time at this property. It was in a fantastic location, beautiful sunrises over Blue Hill Bay. We had one issue and the owner was able to get us in touch with someone local to get it resolved quickly.

Wonderful week!
This home is amazing! We loved the rustic and historic charm. We were able to sit on the poarch and just watch the water. The beach was a great place to look at shells and rocks. Bar Harbor is just an hour away and has beautiful scenery along the way.

Magically peaceful
We absolutely loved staying at Wawanock Lodge! Cozy, comfortable, rustic, with a gorgeous stretch of quiet and private beach. It’s a no frills place filled with interesting books, beautiful family artwork, and history. As soon as we walked in the door it felt like home and we didn’t want to leave. My 5 year old son didn’t even miss tv or internet with such a wonderful beach playground to explore. We rented a kayak and paddled around on calm days, and enjoyed the fireplace when it was cool and rainy. Blue Hill and Brooklin are lovely little villages with all the necessities you might need, and charming local shops and galleries. We ventured in to Bar Harbor and Acadia and enjoyed the hustle and bustle but were always eager to return to our tranquil seaside retreat. Highly recommend!

Quiet Waterfront Cottage
We had a lovely time at the cottage! The property itself is beautiful. We loved walking down to the rocky shoreline at low tide and looking for shells and seaglass. The cottage is cozy and full of books, and we had everything we needed for a relaxing week. Very quiet neighborhood. The proximity to Acadia NP and other nature preserves with hiking trails gave us plenty to do. The general store 5 min away for coffee and snacks is cute, and the trip to larger town with grocery stores is scenic and easy.

Peaceful and scenic rural area on waterfront.
Comfortable cottage well-cared for, a quiet retreat where you hear the birds and a few boats perhaps fishing or lobstering. Nice porch with grass to steps leading to rocky beach. Comfortable beds upstairs. Scenic drive to Blue Hill for groceries, friendly people. Nice vacation for our small family. We enjoyed the experience.

Great neighborhood on the point
Rock, beach, yard and overall location was excellent. Porch was wonderful to relax on. Mosquitoes, which were bad in nearby areas, were far less here. Walking to lookout point multiple times a day with children and pooch offleash were great! We made memorable meals in the vintage kitchen! Landline phone helped since there was no wifi and cell reception for calls was surprisingly good outside. Beds and bedding were comfy! Old books, some dating to early 1800s, were a treasure trove!

Quiet, low tech getaway
This is a wonderful secluded getaway along the beautiful Maine coast with views of Blue Hill Bay and Acadia National Park in the distance. I was looking for a simple, historic place to take my family to unplug and actually spend vacation spending time with each other rather than playing on our electronic devices. It is an old school cottage with only the necessities of modern life but it was exactly what we needed. There is a great shore steps away to enjoy the water and coastline and we really enjoyed playing low tech games, cards, puzzles and reading at night to each other. You really feel like you have stepped back in time in this lovely, preserved home.

A most serene & private location with all needs met.
This ancient, four generation family owned property is set on a granite promontory with views of bay & ocean facing Maine's Acadia National Park & Mount Desert Island. Visitors will enjoy the quieting sounds of the tides lapping waters & the rumbling of lobster boats collecting the days catch. Our family enjoyed the water's bounty of glass & shell collecting, tide pool crustacean antics and the pure family togetherness of electronic absence. A truly unique & fantastic week.

Idyllic Spot
My family and I have been coming to Wawenock every summer for the past ten years. The place is a gem! We love everything about it --the quirky, unpretentious kitchen, the family photos and paintings scattered about, the rippled glass in the windows, the assortment of wooden rockers and wicker perfect for curling up with a book. It's like stepping back in time to a world that moves more slowly. What a relief there are still some places that haven't been "improved" with needless updates! Wawenock has that traditional Down East charm that is timeless.

Charming Cottage in a Perfect Spot
Our family of four (children ages 4 and 10mos) had our first stay at the Wawenock for a two-week vacation and had an absolutely wonderful experience. We had extended family staying at neighboring properties (walking distance), but Wawenock's charming cottage, breathtaking views, private setting, and convenient access to the water/beach, made it "headquarters" for our entire extended clan. The oversized porch was great for group dinners outside and for lounging with morning coffee while taking in the morning sunrise over the water.
Although this was our first stay at Wawenock, we are summer-regulars to the area, and our (now) four-year old really loves this trip and looks forward to it more and more with each passing year. Without TV or other distractions, days are spent doing simple things together; walking/hiking, kayaking, swimming, reading, puzzles, card games, etc. The Lookout Inn restaurant was closed for the 2012 season but plans to reopen in 2013 and has spectacular views and fabulous dining (we especially love going there for big breakfasts), and is only a 5-minute walk from the Wawenock. Wawenock's "sandy" beach is a rare find for the area and is terrific for the kids who love splashing in the water and searching for shells, stones, and other "treasures".
Thank you for an unforgettable vacation and we're already looking forward to next year. Highly recommended for folks seeking a rustic cottage, brimming with character and charm, in an incredibly beautiful and tranquil location.

Absolutely Perfect!
We fell in love with Wawenock the moment we turned into the driveway. We truly could not believe our luck. Our vacation was a special rendezvous with dear friends from Ireland and we could not have imagined having such a perfect place to relax, refresh, cook and devour fresh lobster and soak up the wonders of Maine. Thank you so much for sharing your very special place with us. We hope to return and hope we find it just as it was this summer, just perfect.

Quintessential Maine Cottage
In two words: Maine unplugged. An extraordinary week in an absolutely stunning nook of the world. Wawenock Lodge is a family property and the family's history for the past century is very much a part of the lodge. Perfectly situated on the water's edge with a private beach, spectacular sunrises and the chug of lobster boats heading out to place their traps greeted us each morning. Day trips to Acadia, sailing, and exploring towns were simple and coming "home" at the end of the day is what we all looked forward to. All in our party, ages 7 - 51, had a delightful week and will return! Thank you!
