The layout of this 2 bedroom apartment was the right size for 2 adults, and the location was perfect, but it was dirty. It was obvious the stove top, countertops, and refrigerator hadn't been cleaned. There was heavy dust on all windowsills, dust and detritus along the baseboards in the kitchen and bathroom, dust on all the shelves and kitchen lampshade, the bathroom mirror hadn't been cleaned, there were towels in the laundry hamper (which turned out to be clean), and there was a hole in the bottom sheet on one of the beds. To his credit, when I called the owner, he sent over the housekeeper who did her best to remedy some of these problems before she had to go to her next job. He even offered us a full refund if we wanted to find something else. Since it was dark and pouring rain, we decided to make the best of it, and enjoyed our stay after doing some cleaning of our own. This really could be a nice place, but needs some detailed care. The sink in the bathroom has a big crack in it, one of the lampshades in the living room is torn, and light bulbs in the 3 lamps in the living room are all different shades. On the other hand, all the electronics worked great, and the instructions from the owner, even though he wasn't on site, were clear and accurate. He and the housekeeper were also very considerate about our sensitivity to perfumes. We absolutely loved the location as we could walk just about everywhere in between exploring the redwoods, which was the reason for our trip.

This was a girlfriend trip. We loved the location, just two blocks from the Plaza. The apartment was beautifully furnished and appointed. Off-street, covered parking was a plus. The host was helpful and friendly. To sum it up, it is FABULOUS!

Very clean. Great coin operated laundry. Adequate cookware and dishes. Host responded quickly and was able to accommodate us when we needed to extend our stay a day. Keurig needed maintenance so it was a little tricky making coffee. Unit was close to the plaza, a good thing for access to shops, grocery, but there a few sketchy folks nearby which made my teen a little uncomfortable. Also it would have been nice to have a broom available so we could clean up after ourselves.

House was in a great location, easy to find. Walking distance to grocery store and The Plaza. Very clean, nice decor and a nice fire place. Full kitchen, coffee, tea and popcorn were on hand when we got there 😊 plenty of towels and linens. There was also a desktop fan in each room. The 2 rooms were identical and comfy. Only 2 suggestions I would make. Have a fan available for the living room (traffic is a little loud if you open the windows). And have a porcelain toilet seat instead of porous wood for sanitation purposes. This house was a delight and I would definitely stay there again.

The house was very clean and in a great location. A short walk (a couple blocks) to two grocery stores and several restaurants. The owners were very helpful and called me mid-stay to check in. I didn’t need anything, but I knew if I did I could contact them and get help.
There were nice/thoughtful small touches like Keurig pods and microwave popcorn available.

Was as advertised. Great location for the Oyster Festival. Good hot water and shower pressure- both very important to me. Beds were comfortable and the place was clean enough. The host was pleasant and responded timely to a question I had.

While the property is located in the heart of Downtown Arcata and is walking distance to everything, the real star of this rental experience was the property manager/owner. I've rented through VRBO many times in the past and have never experienced such thorough details in advance and such a warm welcome upon arrival. We didn't have a need for anything, but it was very reassuring to know that we would likely have a quick response if there was a need.
The beds were incredibly comfortable and we slept great both nights. This is such a perfect home for visiting my daughter while she is up at Cal Poly Humboldt for college for the next four years. I'll be back for certain!

My son & I were there to see the redwoods. This location was in the middle of where we wanted to hike. There are restaurants & coffee that you can walk to & a grocery that’s walkable for trail snacks. We drove up from SF & made a couple of stops on the way. It’s a beautiful drive. We drove north about an hour to see the Grove of the Titans. Would highly recommend. The apartment is very spacious & clean. The beds are great after a day hiking & driving. In our case because of the rain the fireplace was awesome.

Unfortunately last minute we had to rearrange our stay due to a family emergency. I contacted the owner and he was so amazing to work with me and come up with a solution since we missed the cancellation date. I can’t wait to actually stay at his home in the near future. Our daughter will be attending Cal Poly Humboldt so we plan on staying up in that area several weekends throughout the year.

The apartment was immaculate and very comfortable. It was perfect for me and a friend who were revisiting our old college town and college campus (HSU alumni 1978). Stayed three nights. Easy walk to restaurants, shops, and the local co-op grocery store. Only issue was the gas fireplace didn’t work during most of our stay and even though the host, Larry, was very responsive and did everything he could to get it fixed quickly, the earliest a service person was available to come was the on the last full day of our stay so we were only able to enjoy a fire in the fireplace on the last night. Since the apartment also had a thermostat control central heating system it did not get cold. We wanted to start the fireplace mostly for ambiance even though when it did work that last night it warmed up the apartment pretty good. I definitely will stay here again.

This is a small but very nice apartment in the center of Arcata (there is some noise from the street but on the other hand within walking distance there are a few restaurants, cafes and stores), in close proximity to many Redwood parks. Super comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen - coffee pods and tea included which was a nice and unexpected surprise. Very easy self check-in and excellent communication with the host. Great value for money overall.

We used the apartment as base for trips to the Redwood National and State Parks and we had a fantastic stay! The kitchen was excellent and the bedroom was cozy and comfortable, Having an assigned parking was a huge convenience, and the quiet surroundings made for a relaxing atmosphere.

Loved the location which was walkable to everything we needed. Because the unit was upstairs, the natural sunlight was nice and it felt very private. We loved relaxing, cooking a few meals, and planning our next adventures. Thank you for all the surprise extras: microwave popcorn, small pack Oreos, olive oil and a few spices, scissors, nice selection of teas/coffee. Your place would be our first choice if we ever return!!! Highly recommended.

Fantastic location, and really comfortable accommodations. Appreciated that the rooms were identical so there was no "fighting" over who got which. Beds were SUPER comfortable and the linens and bedspread were designed for chilly Arcata evenings.
Off street parking was tight for our SUV (Hyundai Palisade) so keep this in mind if you're in something larger like a Tahoe or Suburban.

Absolutely loved staying at Joy and Larry's place in Arcata, and will definitely will do so again if allowed! A very comfortable space located right near the Town Square and a fantastic sandwich shop down the block (Hole-In-The-Wall Sandwiches), a must-visit. All-in-all, a very pleasant experience and accommodations, and would recommend to anyone seeking a comfortable spot in downtown.

Location is in the heart of Arcata! Everything is within walking distance. Amazing farmers market around the corner on Saturday, hatchet throwing in the afternoon and dinner/drinks all within 2 blocks. Comfortable beds, great water pressure. Will be back here soon! Thank you!
