Hotel attracts is cool. It's old and funky, but clean. It's right on the plaza where the freaky action happens.
Breakfast could use some work, but there's good restaurants near by.

Great stay on the downtown plaza. Great nearby shopping and food! A mile from Cal Poly Humboldt. We had noise from the restaurant under our room til 10 pm. Lots of noise from protest on the square during 10/7 during the day. No issues with parking in town - it’s free. It felt safe and friendly.
Breakfast is lackluster. The people are all awesome.

If you're looking for privacy, don't bother with the Basic Suite -- it's 2 rooms, but there is no door. I love the location and the charm of this hotel and especially the walkability to everything in town. I do wish a minifridge was in the room.

Location for shops and restaurant is great.
Street noise is very loud. Rooms are ok and really just too much noise. Would not be able to stay here again. Sad because the area is cute.

Very old and a little scary!

Property and staff are great, but square right across the street was full of very questionable and unsavory looking characters. Felt uneasy parking our car on street (no where else close to park) but host assured us they haven’t had a problem with cars being broken into. Sure enough car was fine when we came out next morning.

It had an old time appearance and very well keep

Great old hotel feel, if you like that. Be sure and read the cards next to all the old photos on all floors. Operable windows! Our only problem was thin walls let us hear street noises, conversations of night owl guests, and the noises of pre-dawn risers.

Old quaint hotel in middle of town. Had clawfoot tub and things from bygone era. Step back in time! Staff was very helpful and friendly. Only thing we were slightly concerned about was the small centralized park across street (like old fashioned town square) had some noisy people gathered hanging out and were worried about leaving car parked there. But it was ok, we were on other side of hotel and didnt hear them and all was ok with car. Nice old hotel.

This hotel was creepy! It reminded me of a scary movie. The homeless were everywhere! Walked by a group of people snorting something off the side walk... didn't dare investigate just kept walking a lot faster.

Classic1915 hotel in the center of Arcata facing the town square. Hotel has been kept up well. The square was lively and noisy at night, but we did not feel unsafe. Nice coffee shop across the street.

It is on the plaza which apart from the crazy people is fine. The property is I imagine very representive of a hotel from 1915, without air conditioning, with victorian plumbing and a few cobwebs.

Excellent sushi restaurant on the first floor. Nice rooms. Historic property. Underwhelming breakfast. Sketchy hobos hanging around in the square outside. Would stay again

Second time staying here...really great and fun hotel.

I realize the hotel is a historic property. It's lovely as is.
I wish there was a mini-fridge in the room. My biggest complaint is the homeless congregating in the park across the street. It makes you uncomfortable if they are verbally abusive or aggressive.

Hotel Arcata is an eclectic "old fashioned" feel hotel complete with clawfoot tubs. It has modern conveniences though of freshly starched sheets and plenty of hot water pressure in the shower. The staff are remarkably kind.

The property is lovely, but unfortunately many homeless individuals congregate and sleep in the park across the street with loud noise and fighting sometimes.

This hotel is cool. It is also old. It exudes early 20th charm and it also has some 110 year old hotel problems, such as the windows and doors let every noise in, and the area around the hotel is surprisingly noisy for a little town. I'll get to the noise in a sec...
The continental breakfast was meager, at best. It was barely acceptable, tbh.
The room was cool. It was old, but clean, and had real solid brass fixtures and comfortable beds. It had a radiator but no air conditioning that i can recall -- which turns out, was ok, in Arcata, which doesn't get warm even in early August. (for reference: It dropped down to 51º overnight -- on August 11!)
The town, though, has this sorta semi-permanent "hippie homeless" population that just lives in the town square. Maybe this is very typical of a California hippie town, and I chatted with some of them and they were mostly nice, and mostly harmless, but it did make the evenings much louder than one might normally expect for a small town. We're talking "yelling at 2AM" type noisiness. My teenage kids were not fans of the members of the town square. I was fine with 'em, but it was definitely not something I've encountered quite like this.
Overall, this hotel is worth staying at if you're ok with the "weird". Recommended.
