Villa mimosa is not for everyone …firstly, it’s not a luxury Villa in a prestige location full of “see and be seen” instagram tourists or yachts. Instead, it is a lovely clean modern refurbishment of a basic housing complex of 6 properties based around a small ( but perfect, and very deep ) pool. The house itself is sparse but stylish - think German flavoured Nordic, with decent beds and comfy sofas. 3 Basic but perfectly functional clean bathrooms,( though one I didn’t use because I didn’t like he washing machine being in it, and the lack of ventilation/extraction) , and two kitchens ( one old cottage style and one very modern and free flowing in a nice basement family lounge dining room). Fans, washing machine, dishwasher - all good and present. The hosts were, as typical these days, not locals, but a managing estate. Who were to be fair, very responsive. A faulty smoke alarm and coffee machine were fixed pronto. All in all, a decent house but nothing flashy, perfect for a large family or a family gathering…
But why it is special is because of the location. It is in the centre of Punta Mujeres which is a tiny fishing village next door to the chilled out town of Arietta with its wonderful beach. This is a real place for people who live their lives well, a real community of people who swim and dive everyday, bring their grandkids, do their homework, have a picnic play date after school, walk their dogs. There is nobody in the latest styles doing insta poses. Virtually nobody speaks English. The only tourists pretend to speak Spanish and attempt to to blend in. The food is whatever was caught that day, whatever receipt they chose. But die hard tourists come year in, year out. Decades. They prop up the tables in the municipal community centre, eating whatever is going, whilst the grandads play cards, the grandmums gossip, the kids run around them, or in the play ground, football pitch. It is heaven
The house could do with a few tweaks, depending on visiting family patterns, but really, it was perfectly lovely and comfortable. It is weird to have 6 other families in the same complex in close proximity, and the kids got a bit shy to share the pool with other families. But I would have felt a fancier development would have been out of place in a village where people are ordinary working people who live and work there, and congregate under the trees and on rocks, or in their garages. We were impressed by the ingenuity of turning tiny garages into multi purpose multi generation hangout zones ( table tennis , some chairs and a mini bar, a card game table, a craft zone) and we were mesmerised by them growing mangoes and papaya and bananas and pretty flowering succulents in every little dust patch by back yards and rubbish dumps, they were gardens in oasis…
I worried we were glamorising the beauty of a place where people have lovely family life but youth have limited options and economic hardship is a reality

The place is big, prepared for a group. It has several rooms and bathrooms. It even has a second kitchen in the basement that looked like it was completely new. They have prepared a terrace on top to enjoy the evening.
We did not feel at home, it is best for a big group rather than for a family. We came with our baby and grandparents. The place is OK, but it is composed of some creepy decoration (posters of some german artist...a bit scary) and ikea stuff, like lots of ikea lamps that not even connected. Living room is very small and the doors are very poor quality, the sound just passes by. The location was also not the best of our family, the supermarkets are too small/too far and the beach is not suitable for baby. Next time we should do better research!
Summary, it is OK, but not ideal for us :-)

beautifully, simply furnished, with everything we needed
