The resort's location on the island is very remote, which makes the experience feel novel and peaceful.
There are not too many rooms, so it is not very busy with lots of tourists.
The food is very good and the service is great.
The bungalows are comfortable and large.
The nearest beaches are kept as clean as possible by the owners.
Getting to the island itself for us was not a relaxing experience - the boat journey was very stressful, as it was very choppy and the crossing takes 45 minutes from the fishing village.
There is no other way to the island however, so you just need to be lucky with the weather and keep your valuables hidden away for the duration of the journey. The journey back was a bit better for us.
Overall, we could have been very unlucky with our boat crossings, but feel it is important to note that this is the only way you can reach the island.
Make sure the driver wraps you in waterproof material, to be safe both ways.

Michael and Kavita really work hard to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable. The food is lovely. The boat excursion to a local reef was outstanding and we really liked Michael's efforts to keep the beach and reef clean.
Michael was also extremely helpful in getting us to and from Phon Phem and answering our many questions.
There is not a great deal to do on the island but it is a great place to relax and read or swim. The wonderful trip to the local reef made it for us.

Extraordinary place - located between jungle and the sea, most relaxed without Wifi or any activity program you can enjoy nature, very good food and have a good time at the beautiful beach or simply swing in your hammock.

remote tropical islands
perhaps a bit disappointing snorkelling

It is an intimate, small hotel and felt properly off the beaten track. The food was good and not overpriced.
It did not feel as pristine as we expected - the sea was a bit murky, not blue. Waking up to frogs inside cabin 7 was not good but we were swiftly moved and it was okay afterwards.

food amazing and huts basic but super super nice and comfortable
- too many sand flies (not a fault of the property I know, but in 4 days it was almost impossible to relax on the beach
- apart a fair snorkeling in a nearby beautiful island, no much to do, but probably this is exactly what you want from a place like this.. do nothing, read, eat, sleep, repeat

Kavita and Michael have created a little tropical commune on this (essentially) uninhabited island. This is a place for slowing down and taking a break from your self. All your troubles disappear as soon as you step on the boat which takes you to the resort in 1hr from the mainland along unspoilt blue waters. No internet reception, just the sea, books and games, exceptional tropical cocktails, delicious food, spending time petting the many resident animals and making new friends. Michael’s evening soundtrack in the bar (90s/00s CD collection) is pure nostalgia. Do not miss the snorkelling trip off the coast of an uninhabited nearby island, the most unspoilt coral I’ve seen in the region. We will return.
Nothing.

Lovely hosts and great food! Nice place to relax. Between our stays at Koh Rong Sanloem and Ko ta Kiev, our time at Koh Thmei was the best. Well run place with great activities. Also very friendly animals (including a poney!)

The location was idyllic, so secluded and out of the way of everything that it was perfect. It takes a few different modes of transport to get there, but is SOOOO worth it when you do - perfect! I read the reviews before I came and they were all correct, you feel like part of the family very quickly and it's so beautiful - very unlike any other part of Cambodia as it's completely unspoiled.
Nothing - it was all amazing!

Truly an unforgettable time and a perfect spot to step back from the world. The resort is as quiet and private as you can hope for, and with phone reception (from Vietnam!) only available in a corner of the restaurant, you get to enjoy being present and not glued to technology.
The owners answered every question we had, and catered to food requests for different dietary requirements. A trip snorkelling was well worth it as the coral on the neighbouring island is beautiful and, again, extremely private to view.
The rooms are wooden bungalows on stilts like you’d imagine as a child and were comfortable enough to stay in, but of course aren’t ever going to be Hilton hotels with air conditioning. Authentic and jungle-like is what you have, which was perfect for what was expected. Hornbills perch outside the room and you hear the sounds from the trees when sleeping or relaxing in your hammock.
If you’ve ever dreamed of going to an island paradise, this is it. Would definitely return if I am in Cambodia again.
I can understand if people want an air-conditioned luxury place with wifi to work on an Instagram island, but they’ll be disappointed going here. However, for an authentic Cambodian island break, I couldn’t ask for more.

The place is amazing. It's quiet and so natural. The couple who runs the place are really nice and welcoming-staffs are friendly too. We just wish we could stay longer.

If you are looking for a total getaway Koh Thmei Resort is the place. The setting is beautiful with jungles all around. The bungalows are close to the water and the sound of the waves lapping the beach would put an insomniac to sleep. The hosts Michael and Cavita we're accommodating in every way.

The Breakfast & Food and wonderful cocktails
The enthralling serene atmosphere and environment
It would have been better
1. If the breakfast was clearly expressed as not included in the Room Costs. Doing the deductions later got the budgets all awry. As the guest does understand only when asked about the breakfast that 09 USD will be deducted from the Room Costs and whatever taken during breakfast will be chargeable, then knows the costing
2. Food and Travel Costs does hike up the Stay costs making the Stay Expensive.
3. Suggest to book bus tickets directly at the Ou Chamnar Shops or on the bus directly. There are multiple shops at the T junction which sell bus tickets as lost USD 11 in the process of getting a bus ticket booked by the Resort
4. The Commode required cleaning
5. The hand shower pressure was low. There is only cold water available which is okay considering the location however the shower water needs to have some sort of pressure for a bath.
6. The toiletries were dusty and unusable so used our own toiletries
7. Travelling to the place gets complicated, so it is advisable if there could be proper signage at the Ou Chamnar bus station stoppage and the place be updated with the bus services

- Unique location, completely off-grid, but still easy to get to, thanks to excellent logistics support by Michael
- The sound of the waves day & night, the sun, the animals, the marine life, the bush are all working in concert for your wellbeing
- The resort offers great activities, getting us in touch with the environment and ourselves in an easy and natural way
- There is also an amazing kitchen, run by Kavita, which has a rich menu, that kept delighting us throughout our stay
- Facilities are simple but excellent, with good instructions from Michael
- In the evening, in the bar, there is cool music from Michael & Kavita's extensive collection (they are my age, so figures)
- Internet and phone connection may very likely not work (so good to let your stakeholders know in advance), and Michael can help out when needed, but then this place is there to really disconnect
- Lost sense of time almost immediately on arrival and truly refreshed
There was simply nothing not to like about this place. I would recommend a stay here to anyone.

The place is beautiful and peaceful. The bungalows are pretty much in the jungle, so it's very green. They are also just a few meters away from the beach. The place is quite isolated, there is nobody living anywhere nearby. So it is perfect for those wishing for an escape to nature. The hosts were wonderful too. Very friendly, kind and helping people. I really recommend this place!

Avita and Michael are incredible hosts who always made sure we were looked after and had things to do! The Khmer lady in the kitchen was also very sweet and the animals and nature there exceeded anything we were expecting. Having no connection really made the stay secluded and relaxed. You can always connect in the restaurant if you need to communicate with anyone.
nothing I can think of

The environment is really amazing. You feel that you are in the middle of the nature. We were the only guests and we could enjoy all the beach for us. The owners are really incredible and made us felt as we were at home. We also really enjoyed the food a lot
The only thing that we did not like is that we were biten by a lot of mosquitos
