My husband and I come to Dubuque every year for the Holidazzle and to relax and enjoy the downtown area. We had the best stay at the Holiday Inn - it was fabulous!
The staff is incredible friendly and helpful, special shout-outs to Barb at the front desk for being so fun and welcoming, to Amber in the lounge/restaurant for taking awesome care of us all weekend and to Jeff the shuttle driver for giving us rides to dinner and back on such a dangerously cold night - this was an AWESOME perk!!!
Thank you Jeff, Barb and Amber, you guys rock and you made our weekend getaway really fun and relaxing!
The location is perfect, you can walk to so many great places to eat and drink! And it's a great place for families to gather, plenty of space to spread out, eat a pizza from the Shot Tower in the giant comfy lobby, the kids can swim in the pool, the lounge is handy to watch sports - this place has it all at a reasonable price and safe parking! Perfect!

I would have liked to leave a positive review, however we experienced an unexpected illness the day of the reservation and were unable to make it into town. I called the hotel and Hotels.com to request a refund, however my request was not honored. I am disappointed since I am on the hook for the full amount of the reservation. I have used Hotels.com for years and is my preferred method to book hotels. I wish they could have taken that into consideration and at least offer me a credit on a future stay due to our unforeseen circumstance.

We've stayed here before and can say that the renovations they've been working on are paying off.

When we arrived at the hotel, they said that hotels.com overbooked the rooms. We didnt get anything close to what we paid for and no refund was given. Complete and utter JOKE!

Horrible when you reserve a room and are told hotels.com overbooked them. So you end up with a smaller room and less ammenities.

We had a really nice time in Dubuque. We were not aware of the Dock Dog competition and would have liked to have known, but it was fun to be introduced to an event i didn't even know existed!

We reserved a king bed that reception decided to hold for a guest that was checking in the next day. The front desk staff were very rude when asked why we were being denied the bed we reserved when we were told it was available the night we checked in? My husband recently had back surgery so sleeping together in a queen bed won't work. We looked at other hotels but paid more for a king at this hotel. My husband snores loudly so if he is sleeping in another bed I cannot gently tickle his ear so he stops snoring. I got a total of 5 hours of sleep over our 2 night stay. Our breakfast coupons were also withheld until we went and asked for them. The restraunt buffet left a lot to be desired but the wait staff was great.
There was not enough parking so we spent a great deal of time driving around. There were only 3 handicapped parking spots but far more elite parking spots. Why do elite members deserve preferred parking more than handicapped?
The air conditioner wasn't working properly and we were warm the first night. They cleaned all air conditioners Saturday starting at 8am (very early) and there was water on the floors and elevators, very dangerous.
The grip bar in the shower had been repaired but there were gaps that made em nervous to use it. Also the grip bar was to low for the shower. This hotel certainly didnt deserve the rating it has.

Decent hotel in a great location. Bathroom felt aged and less clean. The main issue we had was the air conditioning- we couldn’t turn it completely off without turning on the heat. Heat would have bee fine as it was 40 degrees that night but it smelled really bad like burnt animal. I imagine it was because of the change of seasons but they really need to flush it out before guests are in the room.

Great location, fabulous staff. Public areas updated and clean, bed clean and comfy. Only complaint is room cleanliness-dirty in the corners, surfaces not clean including headboard, frig, dresser, TV, doors. But that seems to be the case almost everywhere we stay anymore so we are always prepared to sanitize everything upon arrival.

Stinky bathroom. Shower curtain stiff on bottom, smelled sour and had blood on it. Will not stay here again.

Parking was an issue because they were working on the parking garage.

The Hotels.com website described this property as having free self-parking. The parking lot was undergoing a major renovation, forcing guests to park in a lot that was inconvenient, and had (what appeared to be) homeless people sleeping in it at night. The parking voucher did not work, forcing me to pay $10 to exit the lot. In addition, the construction was very loud, forcing me to change rooms twice to avoid incessant noise.

Dubuque/Galena Holiday Inn was fantastic! Stayed here with family & will do it again. Check-in was a breeze. Breakfast was great. Room was superbly clean. I couldn't have asked for anything more. And if I had, I'm sure they would have tried to help out. Was very pleased with our stay here! Thank you HI Dubuque/Galena Iowa

Great place to stay, clean, comfortable, quiet. Only prob was their parking lot was full and we had to walk across the street to park in city ramp. Not sure why the lot was full as it advertises parking in the hotel. Otherwise it was great

My experience check in and out was amazing. Staff was so welcoming and friendly. I got to my room and it smelled like cigarette smoke, the comforter had a blood spot on it, and the shower had hair on the wall. I was exhausted and didn’t want to deal with switching rooms but I wouldn’t be surprised if anyone else would have refused to sleep in there.

Right when we arrived our impressions were not good. At check in they sit down and are not friendly. They are fast but appears like they just want to be done with you. The parking situation is AWFUL. Ramp is too small and have to go back and forth multiple times to fit into limited spots they have. Homeless people hang out on the corner across the street so did not feel super safe walking to dinner. TBH the people I encountered were all friendly however still made me uneasy. Hotel looks newer inside and does have nice decor and rooms are comfortable but did not get a clean feel. Elevators were very dirty. A storm went through and we lost power on second night. It was out for nearly 4 hours before we decided to just leave and go somewhere else. I just assumed hotels have generators but that is not the case. They were understanding and did let people check out and not charge them. We headed over 6 blocks to Townplace Suites, which had power. I wish we stayed there to begin with. Bigger rooms, better parking, and nicer staff.

Overall a terrible experience. First impression using the restroom in the hotel lobby, as I walked in the door I was hit by a powerful odor of sour urine. The room decor is very dated. No towel racks in the bathroom! The power went out after a thunderstorm which is not their fault, of course, but the emergency lights in the stairwell were OFF and when we made our way down to the street and the emergency exit, IT WAS LOCKED!!! Had their been a fire we might very well have DIED!! We had to go back up the dark stairwell and walk all the way around the hotel to the opposite stairwell. NO security lights on in that stairwell! Breakfast buffet was cold and the pancakes were dried out and crunchy. The first night in the hotel, I dropped off my wife at the room and went to visit my brother and while I was away, someone stood outside the door to our hotel room and repeatedly called out "honey, honey.honey" which left my wife terrified. I immediately returned to the hotel and after entering the room I heard several loud people in the hallway who were yelling and singing and generally being a holes. We changed rooms in the middle of the night. Definitely will NOT stay here in the future and we are extremely disappointed with our experience.

Good location, walkable to food & the elevator plus just looking around at architecture. Room was very clean and functional, bedding comfortable. Would stay again. Didn't do breakfast, many nearby options.
Were worried about where bags were put when asked if they could watch them so wouldn't get too hot in the car. Came back to them just sitting at the end of the counter, even with just one night there we saw staff wasn't always at the counter.
