Excellent quiet hotel with a unique use of old department store

Not sure what room another visitor stayed with dogs, but our two pups LOVED the spacious King room we stayed in and we Loved the view out looking over at Wall Street! Location is always great and walkable to all our favorite restaurants and our concert. Front desk staff are wonderful too! We had a great time.
2.5
Very nice Hotel with a very good, central location. It's easy to get to restaurants - and, as it happens, the best restaurant we tried was actually connected to the Hotel!. As for breakfast, we stayed for a weekend and both of the breakfast places were within 150 yds. and excellent! One was almost connected to the Hotel on Haywood St. Same goes if you want to catch a game, as there is a sports bar connected through the main lobby. Highly recommend utilizing the Valet parking too - very smooth, easy & safe process. Everything was exceptionally clean, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this Hotel, and my wife & I both said to each other we would stay there again.

Gross, weird, outdated vibe definitely not worth $200 a night.. hot, stuffy, old room and the shower didn’t drain so I had to stand in dirty water to shower… we left after one hour and decided not to stay and we told them all these things and they won’t refund…

The hotel was beautiful and so elegant. The room was HUGE with lots of natural light and convenient for walking everywhere. The hotel staff (especially Bill) were helpful and always had a smile. We will be back!

We LOVED staying here. The room was spotless, and updated. The staff was truly top notch. The location was exactly what we wanted and their restaurant is a must do.

Enjoyed the shops walking distance from the hotel and cleaniness. Staff is extremely pleasant and went above and beyond to print out restaurants nears me.
One of the top 5 hotels i have ever stayed in.

Historical part of town with many things to do near by

It was great being in the heart of downtown and I can appreciate the history of the building. I do think some updating could be done in the rooms without compromising the history.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. It was in a great location near plenty of shops and restaurants. The vibe of the hotel was cool too!

Good location, friendly staff, interesting hotel.

Limited restaurant opening times.

The staff was amazing and the location was right in the middle of town. Parking was a breeze with valet and we had access to our car any time we needed. The room was huge! We are traveling with two energetic kids and they had a great time running around in all the space! The downside is that it's clearly a pretty outdated hotel, everything was old and a bit worn. If this space was updated it would be my number one choice for future Asheville stays.

The location was great, but the hotel was "empty". The hotel restaurant was not open at all during our stay. They didn't even have coffee.

Great location. Staff was very helpful

Great hotel!

If you decide to stay here do not go to the on site restaurant. I repeat DO NOT go to the restaurant. We offended the host by not having a reservation then were repeatedly ignored by the bartender for 10 minutes. Front desk staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel is old and in need of repair so you could do much better for the money.

Wonderful hotel experience in historic building.
Spacious room and friendly staff.
However, bed was noisy and uncomfortable. Need to upgrade mattress .

Great stay in the heart of town

Unhelpful staff, overall depressing building. Location is good if you want to be in downtown Asheville and the room was fairly new and super spacious. Overall we were fine but I’d definitely not stay here again.

It's Beautiful and centrally located--very helpful staff--plus a glass of champagne at check-in. I couldn't be happier.

Located in walkable city center, central to stores and restaurants. Huge room with couch and bathroom. Clean! Great service from staff. Would have enjoyed more outlets in room and bigger TV.

The suite we stayed in was fabulous minus the uncomfortable bed. The surrounding area is great, with restaurants abundant. The homeless situation is very present.

Great place to stay in Asheville. Convenient to restaurants and activities for the whole family.

Lovely all around

This Hotel is a converted turn-of-the 20th century clothing dept. store. The building & all of it's furnishings are quite old. There's no free parking for Hotel guests. The area has a significant "homelessness" problem. There's no advisement or notice posted making potential guests aware that marijuana use is legal & quite prevalent in Asheville, NC.

Great location and punctual valet
2.0
Our stay at this hotel was really good. I'll start with the negatives: the room we had was a Deluxe City View Suite, and while it was impressively large (975 SQFT), there was no kitchen, or microwave oven in the unit which means you can't cook anything there. There was also only one sink (in the bathroom) in the entire room. The other issue isn't so much with the hotel but just an observation on the city itself; there is a huge population of "travelers;" people that you might think are homeless, but they willingly choose to "travel" the streets. They are EVERYWHEWRE in Asheville.
Now for the pros: this hotel is centrally located to everywhere we visited while there. We were 3-4 miles from various restaurants, and shopping centers, and within 6 miles of the Biltmore Estate, and just about a minute walk from Kilwins up the street. Other reviews mentioned bad experiences with the staff, but we felt they were amazing and went out of their way to assist us any time we had a question. Since this hotel used to be a department store, the elevator announces the departments on the floor you are going to which was a nice throwback. We would definitely visit this hotel again.

Our stay was perfect. The room was massive, very well decorated... Fabulous. Staff very professional. Located among many superb dining choices.

First impression was not good. We arrived early and just asked if we could drop bags and have car parked. Staff member behind the desk looked and acted as if we were beneath any effort on his part. Would not stay there again.

They should be up front about the extra charges so guest can make a decision and not be blindsided with extra charges
1.5
The hotel is clean and new but the service was lacking. For a $350 a night room it was a disappointing stay. No controls for air or fan in the room so it was too warm all night. They only have ice at the front desk and I had to fetch it - no offer to send it up. I needed help with the room and called reception 3xs and no answer. The remote was impossible to use and we gave up. Minor inconveniences but enough to cross off the list of places to stay in Asheville.

Great, friendly staff....great location...hotel bar was awesome also!
