Cosy country pub with attentive and welcoming staff in a stunning location. Wide range of drinks in the bar, decent selection of evening meals and your typical breakfast menu. Rooms are clean, very comfortable and well equipped. Its a quiet village so even though its on the main road there was no noise disturbance. Rooms are a little tired and there were no obvious recycling. You have to ask for an itemised bill if you want one at check out. Its the staff that make this place, and the location next to a river and fields with an old building that could tell a tale or two all help ! Id highly recommend it, especially if you’re not a fan of those standardised chain hotels where you could be anywhere in the world. This place is the complete opposite

Our Manor House room was impeccable. Lovely design with whimsical touches. Wish we could have lingered longer! Tasty dinners in the pub. Pastoral surroundings…. Hope we can make it back!

Nice hotel in the Yorkshire Dales. It was very busy but clearly well run. Room was comfortable and the food was very good. We had fresh plaice and it was perfectly cooked. Hearty English breakfast as well. Great place to stay in a nice location.

The location was brilliant. The pub/hotel was very busy and staff were pushed to the max.
Very friendly and helpful- but it felt like we were on a conveyor belt!

The Red Lion is a great location, the staff were great from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We ate on both evenings at the Red Lion, the first night was good but the food on the second night was below par. I would recommend the Red Lion to friends and family.

We stayed overnight while walking the Dalesway, We had a dog with us and the dog and ourselves were well looked after (personal water bowl and bed provided, plus a sausage in the morning, the dog not us!) Our bed was extremely comfortable, food excellent, staff helpful, the only minor problem was that it was too hot, but better too hot than too cold.

Lovely hotel and staff very friendly and accommodating. Shower was a little temperamental running hot and cold but a minor problem for us as overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Food was good and despite a wedding going on it was timely piping hot and service was excellent throughout our stay.

Friendly staff, lovely food with good choice and nicely presented. great location. Room a bit tired but really comfy bed. Would have liked mini fridge instead of flask for milk. Would stay again but would request The ground floor as found stairs up to room a little steep/uneven for us but then it is 16th century so probably should have considered that before booking! Lovely views.

The room was lovely, food was great, location is perfect and staff were lovely.
The mattress cover was stained but this did not affect the stay at all. The breakfast was amazing and was topped off with a special sausage for Pepper, our Labrador.
We will be back.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay and highly recommend The Red Lion. We stayed with my mum who brought her dogs. The hotel is set-up for walkers and those staying with dogs. Staff were helpful and friendly.
The rooms (we stayed in the main part of the hotel) were clean and comfortable. It is a very old building so be prepared for beams and sloping floors.
I was particularly delighted with the quality of the food. a really high quality filling cooked breakfast included in the room price and varied , tasty evening meals. The meals were beautifully presented.
The location in Burnsall is perfect for walking, many of the walks are not strenuous. You could base yourself here without needing a car as it is around 3 miles along the river to Grassington, 2 miles to Appletreewick. Bolton Abbey is 6 miles away and walkable as a day hike.
I certainly recommend The Red Lion. Thank you to the staff.

Booked this hotek on a whim as we needed a place to stay for a night near Skipton. Thought it was just going to be your average country pub but the hotel and location were absolutely wonderful. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was lovely (both evening meal and breakfast) and the room was clean, comfy and spacious. We had such a fantastic time that we have booked to come back again in a couple of weeks.

Dinner was very good and the pub is lovely but our room was in need of updating and rather tired. Lights in the bathroom dim. Not a good room

Location was lovely. Room was clean and comfortable.
Disappointed with restaurant. Evening meal was cold and inedible. Breakfast was superb!!
Neighbouring room very noisy with TV on past 12.30 but no rules on this.

All staff were friendly and professional. The food was world class - something you would usually only get in a fine dining restaurant in the city. All this in the most tranquil and unspoilt setting.

Great traditional hotel and public house, welcoming friendly staff excellent food, very dog friendly ideally placed for walks along the river and beautiful dales. We couldn't of asked for anything more.

Beautiful location, clean and very comfortable, though rooms were a little sparsely furnished. (No table or shelf, so the kettle / tea / coffee were on the windowsill and the bathroom could have done with a towel rail)
Uneven floors and stairs etc due to the age of the building but it all adds to the charm!
Excellent service by friendly staff.
The food was good but a little overpriced for what it was.

Very friendly. Room and en suite compact. 8.00 am breakfast a bit late for older walkers

Overall I really enjoyed our stay. Wonderful location and for the most part friendly, helpful staff. Didn't spend too much time in the hotel itself as we were there for a wedding.
Location: incredible location close to Bolton Abbey. would be perfectly situated for walkers and Burnsall is a beautiful little spot as well.
Service: check in was very pleasant, generally everyone was really pleasant and helpful and the reception in the eve even helped us with a lost key issue which was fantastic. At breakfast I found the lady that served us to be quite rude but everyone else was great.
Cleanliness: all seemed to be clean and well looked after
Comfort: bed was really comfy with plenty of bedding and pillows.
Facilities: food for breakfast was super tasty. Tea and coffee in the room although I didn't use it. Decent amount of hanging space.
Bathroom: very small in our manor house room but i guess the rooms aren't massive. they actually did well to fit in the toilet, sink and shower but not much room to dry oneself. The toiletries provided are good quality and the towels lovely, big and thick. shower lacking a bit of power but good enough for a wash.
Condition: in places it looks like a refurb is due but decent enough for the style they are looking for, plus as there will be a lot of muddy dogs and owners its probably a bit pointless trying to be too modern and new so for the setting it worked well enough.
Overall a little pricey but enjoyable stay

A lovely room, attentive and pleasant staff and nice food
2.0 / 10.0
The setting is beautiful and the exterior of the building looks in-keeping with the surroundings, however, once inside it’s clear the whole place is in need of some TLC. Our room was situated in the Manor House, which is beautiful, but the room itself let it down. There was a very musty smell, possibly damp, and the bed was terribly uncomfortable.
Also, irritatingly there was a car alarm going off throughout the night, probably 6 or 7 times in total.
All in all the stay was satisfactory for what we needed-a place to lay our heads after a wedding-but I probably wouldn’t recommend for anything else.

Great stay at this wonderfully located hotel in the heart of the Dales. Staff were very friendly and the food excellent. Would certainly recommend the place.

Food was very good. Room was small and basic. En-suite shower room very small and a struggle to move around.

Lovely walking overnight stay. Excellent location for exploring on foot. Staff really friendly and helpful. Hotel was very busy but managed to squeeze us in for evening meal despite being nearly fully booked.
Room comfy but a bit tight on space. If we had been a larger sized couple we would have struggled to use the toilet and shower facilities and to negotiate getting to the window side of the bed (very narrow gap).
